Love, Balls and Courting: Tennis V

Alright. My attempts at humor have failed but I will just say this. Djokovic has exhibited a lot of toxic masculinity throughout his career and I’m happy to call him and other men out on it. Considering the systematic misogyny that women face today, I’m not too concerned about a few men getting into a tizzy about being stereotyped. Peace!

Your reply that you just edited was not really humorous.. but sure. I don't disagree about Djokovic's actions, but he's not 'men' as an all-encompassing behavior.

I don’t think man-haters would actually ever be in a harem tho, as that requires women to worship their man. So that doesn’t really make sense anyways. I don’t mind men, I even share my closet space with one. Well, he is only one man, and most others completely ignore me anyways so I really don’t have any reason to be angry. Occasionally disgruntled and annoyed, but not like spewing mad or anything.

Is anyone watching Rogers Cup? Which isn’t Rogers Cup, some bank thing now. Canadians all bombed, but I did discover Ons Jabeur, and I love her.
I don’t like Djokovic because his hair doesn’t move and I find that creepy. Will be rooting for Opelka against Medvedev, cuz he looks like he lives in a camper van.

After Nadal w/d (after Djokovic w/d) I wasn't much interested in the competition. I don't know much about the NextGen, so hopefully the level of play will be decent.

Unsurprisingly, I love Medvedev, even though he is a bit bratty - but he is very funny and I will forgive a lot of brattiness for a little humor. Opelka's bearded tie-dyed hippie vibe is also appealing to me, so this is a win-win final as far as I am concerned.

I like the trophy! Looks like you can set it upside down or sideways, and it doesn’t matter.

Rebecca Marino won her first two matches and played relatively well against Sabelenka in spite of the score. I very much appreciate her comeback to the sport. Gabriela Dobrowski also won the doubles final with her partner Luisa Stefani (not shown by Sportsnet or TVASports ) so you may mean the men bombed? Or maybe that just me being a men hater. :p

Sad as I am about Rafa, I am liking the way the Cincinnati Masters event is going this week.
Rublev in the final and he’ll play either Tsitsipas or Zverev. They are probably my 3 favourite ‘next gen’ players so I can’t complain!

Osaka said something that when she wins she doesn’t feel happy but relief. That’s interesting. The pressure to win all the time after you win something big caused lots of people to burn out so fast. Sharapova actually talked about this in her book. She said she never wanted to win a tournament more than she wanted to beat her next opponent. That the people who wanted to win the tournaments had little motivation and so much pressure to do it again they wound up retiring.

ABBA isn’t tacky. :)
If you say so.

I don’t see anything tacky in that photo. :)

Also notable that there is nobody in the background heckling athletes while chowing down on their burgers and fries.

I'm watching Gojowczyk/Alcaraz right now, and wow for Alcaraz! He could probably improve his serve but otherwise has such a balanced game at only 18 years old. He seems to be enjoying himself and has some good resilience, so I hope he can survive the meat grinder that is pro tennis.

Leylah Fernandez - WOW!!! She’s just won a stadium full of new fans too!!
I am a huge sports fan in general, have seen and loved a lot of tennis, even played a little. I have now watched two of Fernandez's matches here. She might have the best attitude of a sports competitor I have seen anywhere, she seems to keep everything light and airy, she's just always looking to have fun, and wants to hopefully take each point and then move on to the next one. Plain and simple. And she smiles big time.

And Alcaraz is a phenom for his age, such a big serve, I think he will go far here and in the tennis world in general.
