Living the PyeongChang Dream: Korean skaters strive toward 2018

I've said it before, but I'll say it again, I am happy and grateful that the South Korean skating programs are still viable after Kim. I hope they continue to grow, expand their disciplines and enjoy ongoing support from the ISU and skating's fervent fan base.

Former South Korean national figure skating champion [Lee June-hyoung] said Friday he's determined to win an Olympic spot at the final qualifying event next month.
Lee, a three-time South Korean champion, won the men's singles title at the Figure Skating Korea Challenge last month in Seoul and earned the right to compete at the Nebelhorn Trophy in Germany starting on Sept. 27. It's the last Olympic qualifying competition where six tickets to the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games will be up for grabs.

ETA this part from the article:
If Lee finishes in the top six, then South Korea will be able to send a male skater to PyeongChang 2018 next February. If not, the host nation will not be represented in one of the more glamorous Winter Olympics events.
According to the end of this ISU document published after Helsinki Worlds: http://www.isu.org/en/single-and-pa...laces-for-the-xxiii-olympic-winter-games-2018

The host country Korea is guaranteed an extra spot per discipline if they do not qualify through the normal qualifying procedure (2017 World Championships and Olympic Qualifying competition). For example, if Korea does not qualify a Man in Oberstdorf, there will be 31 competitors at the Olympic Games in PyeongChang.

Do we have an update if Park will be ready for SA after her bolts have ben removed?

Also, per GS, Yunkyung Kam (6th at last year's Senior Nationals, but just now age-eligible for the JGP) had to withdraw from her first JGP due to injury. Yungkyung is essentially Korea's number four junior lady. She actually defeated Eunsoo Lim and Young You during the SP at the first Korean selection competition this season.

I fixed the google translation:

Hello. I am Park So-yeon, a figure skater, taking over the relay from the national rhythmic gymnastics team member, Chun Songi @ chunse__97.. # 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games are just around the corner and I support all the players training and sweating for the Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games! I am training very hard for the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games, too! Thank you very much for your support ~ I am appointing the following three to continue the relay.

Figure skaters Kim Ha-jin @ haejin0423 An Sohyeon @ so_hyun1228, and Actress Jin Ji-hee @ 2xj_hee: # 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics # Relay support # All of us # Fighting spirit # Injury # Go away.

Both, Park and Kim were crossed out their GP‘s today.
Not surprising for both.

But do we have an update on them? Was it a move by the fed of just coincidence both got removed the same day?

I fear for Park! I need to see her on Olympic ice next year, I really do!

So who are the healthy Korean ladies who will and can fight for the 2 Olympic spots?

Right now, Dabin Choi is competing, though she does seem to be on a recovery track. Trying to get back her triple triple, which is where her bread is buttered. She won the first Korean Olympic qualifying event.

Hanul Kim had a very good senior debut and summer season, besting Courtney Hicks and Amber Glenn in Philadelphia and winning the FS over Bradie Tennell & Angela Wang. Hanul also placed second at the first Korean qualifying event.

The next top three ladies from the first qualifying event were:
Sohyun An
Suh Hyun Son
Yujin Choi

So those five look like the mix of senior ladies' names along with Kim and Park if they recover.

Dabin did enough at Worlds to get 2 spots for Korean ladies at the Olympics, yet her jumps were very <-worthy at Finlandia. Hope she returns to form soon.

The KOR senior ladies landscape is looking quite depressing right now ... the frontrunner regressing with supbar results and the other 2 main contenders sidelined with injuries. :(

When was the next competition scheduled? As usual, I lost track.

Any updates on Cha Jun Hwan?
Well, there was a news clip way back from 2 months ago(about 3 weeks after the competition), where he was skating again(but no jumping at the time) and had new boots. He stayed in Korea until the end of august and since then has been back in canada training... he's been spotted on instagram with other people that skate/work there, but no big update. No news is good news? I assume he's okay now, but I'm not holding my breath for 2 clean skates at SC either.

Thanks. I love his skating and was betting that he could make the Olympic team.

jun hwan has changed his sp to gypsy dance. He still has some pain and is not 100%. Ugh....hope he's well enough to have a decent skate.

Congrats to Young You on carrying the Olympic torch today upon its arrival in Incheon.

Finally, Park is back. It turned out she had to undergo another round of surgery on her ankle last month, due to an inflammation. That's why she gave up the Russian GP. Her fans in Korea are very happy that she can compete again.

She looked great and is by far better than all the girls competing for that 2nd spot in her overall skating!
I fear though with the jumps and the backlog she already has :drama:

Do we have a schedule, result page, livestream link for the weekend?
