LGBTQ+ in figure skating

Johnny Weir and other LGBTQ personalities in the upcoming season of the traitors

And Tara is among one of the straights. Lol.

The article claims Tara is a "fashion icon".

A fashion icon for whom? ? Johnny and the remaining dozen members of the "Angels"? The boomers who own the plantation where she had her wedding? Adam Solya?

I do admire Tara, but a fashion icon she is not.

Amber had a similar story a couple days ago now Paul Poirier has this currently uploaded in his story. Here is the link so you don’t have to go when it expires.

How figure skating is developing beyond its heteronormative history

When Paul Poirier began competing on the senior international ice dance scene more than 15 years ago, there were no athletes who openly identified as 2SLGBTQI+ actively competing in figure skating.

As Poirier heads towards his fourth Olympic Games, he is among some of the biggest stars in the sport who have chosen to no longer hide a part of themselves while they compete for Olympic medals.

“In the space of visibility and representation, there’s been a lot of progress and change in that time,” Poirier recently reflected in an interview with Olympic.ca.

Since coming out in 2021, ”It’s changed my mentality day to day in terms of how I bring myself to the rink,” he said. “It might have been self imposed, but there was a pressure to maintain a level of professionalism where I show up and I skate and this is my job and the rest of myself doesn’t really matter in the context of my work.

I probably posted too much, but you can read the rest of the article at the link above.

"Olympic gold medalist Eric Radford is among the famous faces supporting a new network for LGBTQ athletes, coaches and sports professionals.

The launch of “Proud Champions” follows the successful staging of Pride House Paris at the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics.

The network’s website features profiles of an initial 15 member athletes, all of whom have experience in elite sports. Some have now retired, while others are still competing."

Mae-Berenice Meite is also involved, apparently as an ally? Gabriella Papadakis is one of the athletes with a profile on the site.

Organized in collaboration with the Proud Champions Network of Compete Proud and Fier-Play, Out & Proud brings together elite athletes who have chosen to live authentically, both on and off the field.

Through personal stories and candid conversations, the event explores what it means to come out in sport, the responsibility and impact of athlete visibility, and the power of role models in creating safer, more inclusive sporting environments. It highlights how openly shared experiences can inspire younger generations and drive meaningful cultural change in sport.
