Let's Talk Movies #36 - 2020 - Yep it is a new decade

Toy Story 3 had the perfect ending to this whole story, IMHO. But they had to do a fourth film and it made ~$1B.

😒
This. 3 was the most perfect ending to a franchise probably in all of Disney/Pixar. Especially for some of us who basically were on Andy's timeline. The kids who met Andy and the toys when the first one came out had grown up, and all of us understood the perspectives better because of it. The toys had a new home, they were together, they would be loved.

Four and now five? Totally unnecessary. Not least because there's no even semi-realistic way the toys can win this one long-term. It undoes all the good ending of three.

Regarding Toy Story: it’s been s long time since I’ve seen them, but one of them, and I’m thinking 3, is a blatant rip off of The Brave Little Toaster. I’ll take TBLT any day over whichever Toy Story ripped it off.

So I saw Marty Supreme finally.
The good: the acting, soundtrack, dialogue, etc. are all terrific and deserve all the plaudits. I was not bored.
The negative: the characters are not just unlikable, but I never cared about them. It's not that the movie is like a chronicle of shitty things Marty does in his quest for fame and fortune. It's that I never once cared about his journey. For instance, all the characters of Wolf of Wall St. or Succession are objectively horrible, but I cared about them. I wanted to see what happened next. With Marty Supreme I was actually glad the movie was over.
Maybe it's the lack of humor? This is a remarkably unfunny movie. Idk. But I just didn't connect with this one. I admired the craftsmanship but that was it. And a few sideplots (like the dog) could have been drastically curtailed.

Just watched "If I had legs I'd kick you". Wow, disturbing movie on many fronts. But Rose Byrne could give Jessie Buckley a race for best actress, although I still think Buckley will win it.
