Let's Talk Movies #36 - 2020 - Yep it is a new decade

Fantastic Four has two post credit scenes but don’t bother with the second one. The movie was great and perfectly cast. I heard nothing but good things from fans coming out of the cinema.

Just got back home from watching The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Because it is still in its opening weekend, I’ll put my review in spoiler.

Are you hoping that MCU films would get……better? Are looking for Pedro Pascal to have a performance that you’ll like? Then I highly recommend this film!

I give this film a 9.0/10. This is the best Marvel film I’ve seen in years, maybe since the 2000s.

The ā€œFantastic Fourā€ are Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), his wife Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), his best friend Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) and her brother Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn). They were astronauts who go on a space mission and obtain superhuman abilities when they hit a cosmic storm. The live together as a family and became superhero celebrities in 1960s NYC. They must work together to save the Earth from being destroyed by Galactus.

What’s Great/Good:
1) The production design is the best I’ve seen so far in a film this year. I want to live in this house. This needs to be nominated for as Oscar (but will probably lose to Wicked: For Good).
2) The score and music is probably the best I’ve heard in a superhero movie in at least a decade. Who doesn’t love this? 😃
3) I found a Pedro Pascal performance that I liked. It only took 385,491 tries. šŸ˜†
4) I LOVED the ā€œfamily togetherā€ dynamic in this film. 🤩
5) The ENTIRE audience clapped or cheered when baby Franklin ā€œclappedā€ for his mother. 😊

What’s MEH:
1) I did like that the film wasn’t too long (just under two hours), but I felt that they could have fleshed the backstory a little bit more.
2) Reed Richards’ nerd-outs and chalk boarding were a bit clunky in execution.

I read the Wikipedia article and wish Julian McMahon could’ve done the Dr. Doom cameo. 😟

My friend who told me she wanted to see the Superman movie has not gotten back to me so :wall:. I think I’m just going to go myself tomorrow afternoon. Only $7 at Regal.

This has not been a good year for me. My beloved cat died on my birthday(of all days) and I can't stand Trump and his awful treatment of people and my front tooth just broke. I NEED THIS MOVIE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG, that's Liz Larsen! We went to school together. And are friends on TikTok.

I watched War of the Worlds reboot with Ice Cube. It's worth it's 10% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It's not even so bad that it's good for comedy sake. It's just bad.

Just watched The Naked Gun. Being that it’s still in it’s opening weekend, I’ll put my review in spoiler.

Do you miss watching great comedies in theaters? Have you been loving Pamela Anderson’s career resurgence? Are you in the mood for belly laughs? Then run to the theaters and see this film! šŸ˜‚

I give this film a 9.2/10. It’s basically nonstop humor for 85 minutes. Lt. Frank Drebin, Jr. (Liam Neeson) of The Police Squad investigates an apparent collision death of Davenport. He realizes that the death is related to a doomsday event planned by Richard Cane (Danny Huston) using a P.L.O.T. device. During the investigation, he starts a romance with Davenport’s sister (Pamela Anderson).

What’s great/good:
1) Liam Neeson was perfect for this role.
2) Pamela Anderson’s singing performance on stage at the jazz club was 🤣.
3) I would say that about 75% of the jokes and ā€œside humorā€ hit the note. The ones that didn’t land didn’t cause the film to crash and burn.

What’s MEH:
1) The trailer gives away the joke about O.J. Simpson. There’s another joke about Bill Cosby that some might find too 😬.
2) I’m not convinced that the stuff with the snowman needed to be in Drebin and Davenport’s ā€œromantic weekendā€. It seemed a bit ā€œextraā€.
3) During Drebin and Davenport’s ā€œromantic weekendā€, I was expecting a 2025 version of the ā€œbody condomsā€. It didn’t happen. SIGH. šŸ˜†

I watched French Girl, about a couple in NYC. The girl gets a cooking opportunity that has her return to her hometown of Quebec City. Zach Braff, a teacher in Brooklyn, follows her. Cross culture hilarity ensues. It was fine like I like Meet the Parents is fine. But it mentions figure skating, referencing some American and Canadian legends. I will always like a movie with a skating reference unless it’s I Tonya.
