Let's Talk Movies #36 - 2020 - Yep it is a new decade

My best friend's daughter has partnered with her former classmate to create a documentary that examines the world of Blind Baseball.

I wasn't necessarily in favor of a new Spaceballs when it was first announced. But now I see it's supposed to be more of a sequel than a reboot. And Mel Brooks (who is going to be one of the stars -- despite being just a couple of years shy of the century mark ) made the point that all of the movies it was intended to spoof have had multiple sequels (and prequels, and TV series, etc.). So there's plenty of fodder there. ;)

So………apparently this weekend is looking like a good weekend for new releases. The reviews for How to Train Your Dragon, Materialists, and The Life of Chuck are quite good.

I’m sad about what’s being said about The Unholy Trinity. It looks like it’s only in limited theaters. I’m a lifelong fan of westerns and the film has Pierce Brosnan and Samuel L. Jackson. 😔

I'm not sure I care but after watching the announcement this came to mind: One year of my childhood the two kids movie offerings were "The Aristocats" and "Bednobs and Broomsticks" and little else. Now I look at that list and am glad there is so much more. And the Lord of the Rings wasn't even mentioned. Still that is quite a list.

Not sure anyone is interested but it has been twenty years (I can't believe it!): Keira Knightley and Rosamund Pike talk about making "Pride and Prejudice": https://youtu.be/psjjEIrq654?si=PrW1rwsJ0llXTOr1

I went and saw "The Life of Chuck" this morning. A very sweet movie, beautifully done. All of the acting is wonderful, including the kids who play the younger Chuck. Hard to describe the movie in terms of plot, it just was very good. Good for Stephen King.

Finally watched Emilia Perez last week and was surprised given the storyline how boring it was. :shuffle:

And that it won an Oscar for Best Song and the song that won was not La Vaginoplastia (the only memorable part of the film).

I saw The Phoenician Scheme on the weekend. I liked it but didn't love it. It is very much Anderson's style and I think looked stunning. Performances were really good, particularly Mia Threapleton. And Michael Cera was kinda cute as Bjorn.

The film I watched on Netflix that I thoroughly enjoyed was Nonnas. Based on a true story about a restaurant on Staten Island which has Italian Nonnas as the chefs. I think I had seen the actual restaurant on Stanley Tucci's food series Searching for Italy. Starred Vince Vaughn, Susan Sarandon, Lorraine Bracco, Talia Shire and Brenda Vaccaro. One of those feel good films that is not big budget and just tells the story in a simple way. The food looks delicious too. Vaughn was one of the producers so I think it must have been a passion project for him.

And the other one I watched which has been around for a while was Hotel Transylvania. Really enjoyed it. Great animation and characters.

Finally got around to watching Challengers. An adult romp that is slick, well shot, fabulously scored, wonderfully performed, and just a blast. Makes me want Luca Guadagnino direct a figure skating movie.

The Naked Gun - Official Trailer

This keeps looking better and better. 🚨 👮🏻‍♂️ 😂

Oh my God, I was just coming here to post the same thing, the trailer looks freaking amazing, usually remakes are terrible. Pamela Anderson is channeling Priscilla Presley, and they pay homage to all the original actors.

I have not been this excited since an Angela Nikodinov layback

Ok, how the hell is Liam Neeson 73 YEARS OLD?! 🤯

F1 movie premiere in New York this morning. Fifteen of the twenty drivers were in attendance, thirteen of them having come down from Montreal on a special chartered Qatar Airways plane (F1 sponsor).

George and Lewis were also there but not in the group picture.

Excuse me while I groan over the fact that there is millions of dollars in salary in this image and yet so many bad choices in style, cut and fit.

What’s going on around here? Is this an audition for the harem?
