Let's Talk Movies #36 - 2020 - Yep it is a new decade

Jamie Lee Curtis Wanted to Be in 'The Last Showgirl' So She Could Work With Pamela Anderson

In one of the movie's most heart-wrenching scenes, Annette is completely ignored as she dances in the middle of the casino to Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart." The sequence wasn't in the script but Coppola told Curtis just before their first table read, "Annette is going to dance." During their final day shooting at the Rio Hotel & Casino, Curtis recalled, "Gia walks up and says, 'Annette's dancing in five minutes.'"

Curtis did the dance in one take.

Just watched the Netflix movie “Mary” that released last week. I won’t put this review in spoiler because it has been released for more than a week.

Unless you are an Anthony Hopkins uber who has been craving to see him portray King Herod, you can skip this film. My overall rating: 5.5/10. The film is acted well (as it could) and is visually above average, but the story is very incoherent.

I’ve seen chatter online that some Catholics are offended about how Mary was portrayed. Without this turning into a conversation that’s better for the PI section, I’ll say this: It takes liberties that conflict with what’s traditionally taught from the New Testament. If that would be a problem for you, I would recommend skipping this. I will admit that I 🙄 and 🤭 that Pastor Joel Osteen was an executive producer of this film.

Hmmm that is interesting.

I worked in a public library when they book came out. It was very controversial at the time and people had to prove their age to borrow it. Then I saw movie years later after it had come out and found it quite fascinating. Christian Bale certainly was fantastic in the role.

I do think if there was going to be a new Bateman then Butler is probably a good choice.

Made it through 10 minutes of Emilia Perez today. WHY is it a musical??!! I’ll try again tomorrow.

Blahhh…. all movies made for the masses…. Star Wars 12, avengers 6, wicked 3, the avengers meet the fantastic four, lol I want movies made for adults. Why is this so hard? If you don’t live in the inner cities of New York, Chicago or San Francisco, all you’re stuck with is mass produce junk lol.

Mostly CGI, acting skills not needed.

Heck, I live in the DC metro area and we just NOW got Queer for just this week and next week. I’m trying to decide if I want to see it now or when it hits streaming.

The limited releases have been killing a lot of these “better movies”. It’s not like those movies’ budgets are low enough and they can’t end up making a profit easily, anyway. Why not put them in WAY more theaters? 🤷🏻‍♀️

IMO, Dune: Part 2 has set the standard for how CGI should be used in films. Everything else since (example: Gladiator II) looks like garbage.

^^^^ lol

For me, it’s just ridiculous. I mean Dune 2, gladiator 2, wicked 2, Deadpool meets wolverine next-door neighbors cousin, the minions 12 lol. now universal wants to redo my favorite movie of all time “the others.” Hollywood, which is where I live, is the most uninspiring city in the world, it’s just ridiculous sequels and CGI. I have even gone back to the 1980s and started watching movies like terms of endearment so I can see actual plots and storylines with quality acting.

Meanwhile, we have a new trailer!

Nickel Boys - Official Trailer #2

Good Lord, how am I going to fit all these movies I want to see the rest of this month? 😆
  • A Complete Unknown
  • The Brutalist
  • Babygirl
  • Nickel Boys (If it’s actually near me)
  • September 5 (If it’s actually near me)
  • Vermiglio (If it’s actually near me)
  • Queer (Maybe)

Being in Hollywood/West Hollywood, I know I have a lot of access to all of this. In fact, today I can just go down Santa Monica Blvd. to Century City where there is a question and answers with Pamela Anderson for the last showgirl. Although I hear Jamie Lee Curtis steals the show.

Is the last showgirl playing by you?

I hear that Timothée in a complete unknown….His voice sounds exactly like Bob Dylan.

I think babygirl opens on Christmas day… My friend here did all the posters for that movie. Hopefully you get to see some of those movies.

I will see queer either tonight or this weekend. Although I am preparing myself for whatever happens in the second act of this film, which seems crazy.

YEP. Starting January 9. 😆

I hear that Timothée in a complete unknown….His voice sounds exactly like Bob Dylan.

Apparently, Chalamet did ALL the singing in this film. Keep in mind that Rami Malek lip synced during Bohemian Rhapsody and won the Best Actor Oscar for it. And Austin Butler only purely sang the beginning of Elvis and his voice was mixed for the rest because Elvis’ drug use changed his voice in a way that Butler couldn’t copy. Butler won the Golden Globe and BAFTA and was nominated for the Oscar.

I will see queer either tonight or this weekend. Although I am preparing myself for whatever happens in the second act of this film, which seems crazy.

I might go see Queer sometime this weekend or next week. I will have it on my Prime streaming list when it comes out.

As much as I try to read as many books I can from outside my background (White, American, straight, female), I will admit my ignorance of the LGBT genre. That being said, what I’ve heard so far is that Queer is fantastic as a novel but 🫤 for this movie’s adaptation. And that Daniel Craig’s performance is the only thing that’s great about this film.

Watched "Conclave" on peacock today. Very good movie, some mystery involved, and I didn't guess the final plot twist until it actually happened and I got a glimmer right before the reveal. Great acting all around, Finnes and Tucci especially should be nominated for awards.
Thanks Kasey. I intend to stream it tonight. I’ve been looking forward to this movie for weeks. I love good plot twists.

Ohhhhhh @ilovepaydays look what I just came across in my Apple news

Gay Danish Title ‘In Ashes,’ by Ludvig Christian Naested Poulsen, Picked Up by M-Appeal, Debuts Trailer (EXCLUSIVE)

Berlin-based sales agent M-Appealhas acquired world sales rights for “In Ashes,” the debut feature film by Denmark’s Ludvig Christian Næsted Poulsen, set to premiere next year.

The film follows Christian, a young twenty-something gay man, who is trying to get over the heartbreak of his first love. Looking for meaningful connections through online dating apps, he goes through a whirlwind of experiences, passion and obsession on a journey to find new love, and himself.

“I wanted to show just how difficult it is being young in a chaotic, lusty and hyper liberal environment,” the director told Variety.

Just finished watching Emilia Perez. What a long strange road this one is! Great acting, and I guess the movie overall is well-done, but weird.
