Kiss and Cry - Ugly Cries or Meltdowns

so sweet! he was only 15!

Lamby was exceedingly cute, but wow, he was also overly sensitive with an inability to handle personal disappointment in how he had performed. It's better to put on a brave face obviously, instead of giving the judges a reason to lower your marks even more drastically. Adult Lamby surely cringes at recalling or seeing this episode in his young skating career.

There's no telling of course whether there were other personal matters going on off the ice which colored Lamby's over-reaction to his performance. That or else he had pinned his hopes upon achieving a certain result that he knew was not going to happen when he left the ice.

I think that happened more than once. Definitely at Qualifying in 2002 Worlds. And I think she also left the KnC after skating badly in the free at European's 1995.

Yeah, I was going to say Butyrskaya definitely stormed out of the K&C more than a couple times.

1994 Goodwill Games is another where she doesn’t even bother with the K&C. And 2000 NHK she was thrilled, thinking she finally beat Slutskaya, to devastated within 30 seconds. Say what you want about her, but no one brought the K&C drama like Maria!

Oh no, I don't think I ever saw this early P/C sd from 2013 COR. It was recently being discussed in P/C thread in connection with how far P/C have come, especially re their SD marks. Guillaume had a small slip and fall during the pose ending of the program. He was so embarrassed in the kiss 'n cry, he could barely hold his head up: :drama: Gaby was trying to shrug it off meanwhile, but she was also caught making grimacing faces in nervous anticipation for their marks:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tM-2VM_j9w&feature=youtu.be&t=5m49s Of course their Woodkid FD showed a raw unrefined, yet spectacular touch of genius -- they were simply new on the senior scene back then and needed to get their feet underneath them. Who knew how quickly they would accomplish just that, and then some! A stroke of genius by coach Romain H to join European & North American dance styles by collaborating with Dubreuil/Lauzon shortly thereafter. P/C were hugely out of breath at the end of their 2013 COR FD - they were so intense and passionate, and eager to grow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-m5upuC2i7Y

Guillame's mishap in the 2013 SD reminds me of the time Charlie White fell three times during a performance. Unheard of happenstance! It was a turning point in D/W's on-ice relationship and likely a crucial experience on their path to the top. I can't remember the program nor the year though. Someone else is sure to remember the details and find the clip on Youtube. :)

Cup of Russia 2008 - 2 falls in the Original Dance

I'm not sure I think it changed their on ice relationship - they'd been skating for more than 10 years at that time - I'm sure there were other skates that went like that along the way before cameras were capturing every moment.

I can't help but start laughing everytime i watch Charlie falling at Cup of Russia especially with that last fall even the EuroSports guys start laughing it just gets to the point that it's all you can do because it's so out of the norm for Ice dancing. And Igor's reaction was priceless. :EVILLE:

Thanks for locating the clip. I only meant that their relationship grew and blossomed further after this experience. And I only say that because they said it themselves during a later interview, reflecting back. :)

They surely had other mishap performances, but nothing this visibly drastic and embarrassing, according to them. Meryl and Charlie have expressed how the experience strengthened their connection and on-ice trust in each other. Charlie began to rely on Meryl more in a way that matured their partnership and placed them on more of an equal footing. Previously, Charlie had taken more of a leadership role partly due to Meryl strongly relying on his partnering backup as a result of her depth perception difficulties.

D/W came back in the FD at COR to medal and go to their first GPF (after having earlier in the season won gold at Skate Canada):

I thought Johnny handled that pretty well. Priscilla Hill seemed like an understanding, comforting coach in that moment.
Johnny Weir 2004 U.S. Nationals joy, upset victory (contrasted of course with 2007 U.S. Nationals when Johnny cried after coming off the ice and was comforted by coach Priscilla, while the camera was put on Evan backstage grinning and mugging). Wow, the network, commentators, and judges sure seemed to enjoy spinning out Johnny's agony for all to see. There's a two-part video of the aftermath. :duh:

Johnny now being an NBC commentator is the ultimate 'giving the finger.'

I remember some Russian Nats when Griazev bombed his SP and ended up 10th or something. TAT gave him absolute hell in the KnC and he stormed off before the marks came up, leaving behind a totally pissed off TAT and speechless Buianova. I think TAT even said something like: "Great, now we're sitting here..."
Here we go: https://youtu.be/fkLJz-wSLDE?t=4m50s
I love it !

Galustyan and her father always look very pleased and fun in the kiss and cry area!

I do remember a couple of time when Scott Moir had a very sassy mouth when recieving his scores. Luckily his skating and that of his fellow Canadian Patrick Chan are so amazing that no one really cares about the things they say in front of the cameras. Similar thing to the way all skating fans think of what Ashely Wagner said in San Jose.

He had a similar reaction in the K&C after his meltdown at the 2005 Skate Canada LP:

This K&C of Joshua Farris at 2011 US Nats is pretty tough to watch:

Especially knowing that Josh had a bad injury and his coach made him skate anyway. Tom Z's sympathetic words to Josh in the K&C were obviously for the camera. (I admit that I've detested him ever since, made worse when Rachel was fined for covering up an injury before an important comp - Worlds, IIRC - but TPTB did nothing at all to punish Tom Z, who knew about the injury and apparently encouraged Rachel to keep quiet about it so she could compete.)

I remember watching Sotnikova after her Olympic FS and wondering how someone could cry that much for happiness. Now, I'm four years wiser and I get it, but my 11-year-old self was confused.

I recently found Butyrskaya's LP from the 2nd round of 2000-01 GPF, which is probably her most disastrous outing with Youtube evidence. Only one clean triple. In the competition, the hilarious part was that she was competing with Sarah Hughes for 3rd place, so the two of them had to sit together in Kiss and Cry. Maria didn't say a word to Sarah, making the atmosphere icy and VERY awkward for Sarah.

Worst skate by far for Maria. But it wasn't unusual to have the skaters in the head-to-head format have little to no contact at all while sitting there. Dumb ISU idea on top of a dumb format (1 vs. 2 and 3 vs. 4) on top of a dumb event schedule (two free skates and three programs total typically in two days).

Yeah, that makes sense. My point of reference was Michelle and Irina in kiss and cry, which was more cordial since they were also good friends. And Malinina and Sokolova were also quite nice when waiting for scores.

..three programs in two days? That's pretty unreasonable. I must say, the judges were pretty kind to give Maria 5.3s for that kind of performance, but I guess it didn't matter since the marks served their role as placeholders.

I’m fairly certain in both 2000 and 2001 that they had two programs in one day for every discipline. And then the exhibition the day after, in which all skaters participated, so really 4 programs in the span of 48 hours or so.

But yeah, the 5.3’s were extremely generous.
