Yes, Ruiter is a very exciting prospect indeed. I was so impressed with the interview she gave during the JGP

She seems fearless out there and doesn't let a mistake affect the rest of the program. I think her music choices and choreography are age appropriate and fitting with her style and personality.

I hope she continues to progress this season and beyond!

She captured my attention this year at her second JGP event!

Such personality...

Her spunk reminds me of gone-for-now USA skater Freezer

She is adorable, seems to have a good head on her shoulders, so far has shown ability to handle pressure well, and has definite star quality. Her team has packaged her extremely well in the last two years, with programs and costumes that are age appropriate while still being polished and well-choreographed.

Wow! She's so articulate and mature.more

I'm usually pretty cautious about hyping youngsters. Declaring them "The Next One" feels like a jinx. But I can't help but love her.

And it's so refreshing. Who is her choreographer?

Don't tell Rod Black! His curse dating back to the mid nineties brought down so many rising talents in Canada.

Like almost all of our men. I don't think NBC knows this either with regard to the American women.

Kaiya has nice tight and quick rotation on her jumps. I wonder if she is working on quadruples?

That would be awesome! I would love to have a lady Canadian Quadsters.

Yes. She planned to do a 4T at 2018 Canadians. I can easily see her doing it, providing her body cooperates.

The skating season must feel like a runaway train when things aren't going to plan. Here's hoping Gabby is giving herself time to breathe. For everything she has suffered through lately, I hope she realises that all of her glowing achievements cannot be taken away. She is still a fine athlete.

Kaiya's choreographers are listed in her ISU bio: http://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00107952.htm
Coach: Scott Davis, Jeff Langdon
Choreographer: Jeff Langdon, Tyler Myles

Did Myles choreograph her Harry Potter FS? It's so age appropriate and refreshing for her! :)

Copying over from the Canadian ladies thread in GSD:
Kaiya won Alberta Sectionals (by a lot). Notably, she's now doing two Lutzes in her free skate, and landed both of them, including one in combination with a 3T. The solo Lutz got a !, the ones in combination there and in the short (the one she fell on) didn't.

The impression I got is that Ruiter is a natural flip girl, not a Lutz girl, so it's interesting that her coaches are evidently going all-in on making the jump work for her. With some success.
Kaiya Ruiter's 7-triple, Harry Potter themed FS (skated on Nov. 1, 2019) starts at the 1 hour 11 min. mark: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7nf5mm

She's in good hands. If anyone can make sure she gets the levels on her spins, Scott Davis can. Langdon was always at classy guy. It's a shame he was derailed by injury.

I love her FS. Being a Potterhead, seeing someone skate to Harry Potter makes me a fan and it suits her.

What did she score? I keep hearing she had a great skate (hurray!) but I haven't seen her score noted anywhere.

110 and change, 169 total. It was a bit lower than her Sectionals score, but she won by 17 points, so it was quite dominant in the field.

Rod Black has been a huge supporter and cheerleader of Canadian skaters for many years. We are fortunate our skaters have such an invested personality.

Don't get me wrong. I love Rod Black's supportive nature, and especially how he used to rock that fabulous porn 'stache. He's Canada's equivalent of Terry Gannon, as far as I'm concerned.

But the 'Next One' tag still gives me chills.

Kaiya has been named to the Junior World team and will be competing in the Bavarian Open. Good luck, Kaiya!

And it's nice just with our men. Several USA women have been the victim of that.

Congratulations, Kaiya, in winning the silver medal in you senior debut. Looks forward to watching you grow in the future.
Well done! Too bad she didn't even get to go to 4CCs! Presumably because she does not have a senior international score that meets 4CCs mins?

@Colonel Green posted this interview with Kaiya in late November in the Canadian Women's news thread in GSD:

Description of Kaiya's leg injury:yikes:

Her quote at 2023 Nationals about her injury (IIRC, before Challenge in December 2021):
"I landed on my skate blade, and it went through and cut two of my calf muscles," Ruiter said. "It was really rough, and then coming back from that ā€¦ I had some scar tissue issues and nerve damage all throughout the summer.

"So, I only really started training again in September."
