Jasper Wildfire - 30 to 50% of the town has been destroyed.

I have friends who's supposed to be going there this weekend, but so sad what's happening. Hearbreaking looking at the footages and photos of this gorgeous place

I haven't been to Jasper in a long time, but much preferred it to Banff. One of my favourite hotel stays ever was when I stopped off in Jasper while taking the train to Edmonton from Vancouver for my first-ever real figure skating competition - 1994 Canadian championships. I hadn't booked accommodation and lucked into an incredible deal at the Jasper Park Lodge - a lovely suite in a small building on the (frozen) lake. I had a night swim in the swim-out outdoor pool - I think I had the pool to myself, and the starry night sky was amazing. Another time I was there on a hot-springs hopping camping trip with a friend. Jasper is/was a truly special place.

I’ve never been but my husband worked at the Jasper Park Lodge for a couple of years when he was much younger. Jasper is breathtaking. This is so sad ?

I have never been to Jasper, but it has been on my bucket list for decades. So sorry to hear about the fires!

We were there last year and have been a few times through the years as we used to ski Marmot Basin (one of my fav places to ski). Really a shame. I hope come election time the people of Alberta remember that the current govt cut a lot of $$ from the fire fighting budget.

I saw last night that they got rain during the day and that it helped allowing them more time to reinforce and protect.

Devastating for people whose homes/business that are gone though. The human impact is horrific.

I remember Jasper as a truly beautiful, lovely place...........I am saddened of what happened but I hope it will return to its former beauty asap,

We spent time there on our honeymoon, and I've been there 3 other times. It is/was a very special place and I'm gutted.
