Some award suggestions:

  • most entertaining K&C antics
  • most horrific stare by a coach
  • most horrific stare by a teammate
  • best disguise of mistake
  • best acting of good job after a flawed performance
  • best indifference to music
  • most outrageous call by a technical specialist
  • most outrageous GOE given by a judge
  • most outrageous PCS given by a judge
  • most telegraphed set up to a jump
  • least aesthetically pleasing spin position
  • best non-element field move

Brilliant!

Well, I also suggest that the ISU adopt all Team Trainwreck awards (MESS, MEEPOTS, etc.) - that would infinitely increase the entertainment value of the gala :p.

Jokes aside - the horrorshow potential of this event is simply mindblowing!

It sounds like there will be a show but by Art on Ice....will WC medalists actually skate? This seems like a desperate attempt to get more people to pay attention to the gala. But the current audience - the diehard fans who pay $$$$ for tickets - want to see the medalists perform, not a different show. Art on Ice looked like a great show when D/W were in it, but if I'm going to a Worlds gala, I want to see the skaters who competed.
And many of us haven’t paid the ridiculous price for the gala. The same cost as a full day session- for what is usually 2-3 hours of skating. And now they want to take away the champions actually skating and make us sit through an awards show? This is awful.

From the press release linked in post #1:
Additionally, an innovative mix of Figure Skating, Dance and Cirque Nouveau will be showcased, featuring captivating music acts and several live performances – involving all 2020 ISU World Figure Skating Champions and medalists.

This is what Elena Vaytsekhovskaya came up with, neither names nor specific awards were Ari's proposition. And Vaytsekhovskaya didn't mean that those will be specific nominations either, she just used this for more interesting arrangement of her article, that's all.

I'm trying to vote, but getting all kinds of errors from the ISU server. I managed to register and login. But could vote only for costumes so far.

I couldn’t register because I never got any confirmation message. They’ve really made this difficult.

I could vote, had no problems (registered as "media", got confirmation message after 2-3 minutes).
Was really glad to see Tamarochka (c) in the list of Best Coaches. In general options looked quite reasonable and justified.

No, it's as I predicted the highest programming abilities by the ISU. Probably more than 1 person tried to log in or vote at the same time and they never heard about load balance. Shit happens. Like permanently when it's the ISU website.

Seriously, it feels like every Top24 skater is listed somewhere.
If you did not make it to the list, you know, no one cares

Who decided on those nominees?

Shulepov's costume is indeed ugly. But pity Satoko has changed hers, I would have gladly voted on her first one.

Remember ye ole Lifetime Press Conferences (and the post mortem threads) from the 90s? This has that kind of potential. I am whole-heartedly in favor of this over dreary pop song exhibitions with two 3 toes and a double salchow (fall on the axel) that most skaters do.
This will restore the snark to its former glory during the off-season.

I initially got an error after I registered, but then I clicked on the link from the confirmation email and was able to login and vote. There's only 4 categories - Best Newcomer, Most Valuable Skater, Best Costume, and Most Entertaining Program. Some of the Costume and Program nominees are head-scratchers. Looks like you can only vote for one, not sure if you can vote daily??

Also, some of the omissions in Most Valuable are interesting. No Trusova or Shcherbakova, but Medvedeva and Zagitova are choices (as is Kostornaia). Mariah Bell, but no Bradie. No Hubbell/Donohue, but all the other top dance teams.

I didn't see a place to "submit" the vote. It has a check mark on the category and lists the skater/team on the top of the list once you make a selection. I was also able to change a selection. I'm assuming this means that you can change your mind until the last day and whatever is selected by the cutoff will be counted as your vote. It states on the main page-You can cast one vote per category between December 1, 2019 and February 10, 2020.

I’m very disappointed they have P/C’s FD costumes up for nomination but not their RD ones! :drama:

Yeah, this is random. The RD costumes are original and entertaining but the FD costumes are just standard plain black outfits?

But at least if the system is crashing, it's a blessing because it means the system can't be rick rolled so that popular skaters with big fan bases win every category on the public vote.

A zillion nominees so the whole thing is watered out. Imagine at the awards ceremony: “And the nominees are....” .......... 15 minutes later, host is still rambling on. Everyone:zzzzzz

AND Shulepov’s offensive outfit nominated? What are the ISU thinking? I’m outta this thing!
