ISU Provisional Allotments for 2024-2028

I have no inside information, but it seems like China won't let Taiwan bid for any competitions, because the last time Junior World's was held in Taiwan two years ago, China boycotted the event and did not send any skaters.

Unfortunately for the ISU, not that many places are willing to hold 4CC...

does it mean vienna gets 2028 worlds?
At this point, all we really know is that Vienna and Dortmund submitted bids along with Malmo SWE & Kaunas LTU and neither the Austrian or German feds have been awarded hosting rights for a 2028 ISU Championship.

It may depend on whether or not the ISU decides the combined World Championships concept really can work for 2028 or they hold off on it until 2029 or even later. There aren't many speed skating ovals in Europe and the closest ones to Vienna and Dortmund are a good 3 hours away from each city.

So is 2030 the next Worlds slotted for NA? I was hoping it would be 2028, since pre-Covid, an NA city would host every 3-4 years. I think it was posted here that Japan wants the pre-Oly Worlds in 2029.

The theory is that Japan wants the pre-Oly Worlds in 2029 since they didn't bid for 2028 and the last time they hosted was 2023. We also know from the US Nationals threads that both Boston & St Louis are interested in bidding for 2029 Worlds, so I'm sure we'll see a bid from the US too.

and Japan will get that as Asia never hosted a pre-olympic Worlds. Vienna and Helsinki has hosted the most pre-olys worlds at 4 and 3 respectively dating to 1923.

I wouldn't bet on that - not especially after the massive success that was Boston. I don't know that it will come back to Boston in 2029 but I do think the USFS has demonstrated they are able to put on as great of a competition as anything held in Japan or China or Lithuania.

Plus, the USFS has been willing to step up and host 4CCs in recent seasons, something the JSF hasn't hosted since 2013. Also, consider that the JSF also has had a tight-fisted grip on hosting the GPF/JGPF in the Olympic season for about 20 years now. Frankly, the JSF strikes me as very selfish in only wanting to host the major competitions like Worlds and the GPF/JGPF.

i agree about JSF being selfish. they've basically hogtied every pre-olys GPF since 2005. sadly the ISU won't stop giving it to them.

I've pointed it out before, but both Japan and Canada are way past due to host 4CCs.

Last 4CCs in Japan was 2013; last one in Canada was all the way back in 2009.
It's going to be hosted by Kazakhstan before it's hosted by Japan or Canada again, lol.

Also, while this may not pertain to this thread specifically, Saudi Arabia backed out of hosting the 2029 Asian Winter Games (turns out they couldn't build their snow resort in the desert mountains as quickly as they thought when they bid), and Almaty was chosen as the host replacement. They co-hosted along with Astana in 2011.
