ISU Grand Prix Assignments 2018/19 season

Since Gracie is still listed and hasn't made any announcement, I guess she will compete? Looking forward to seeing her back on comp ice and skating for herself.
Since she hasn't withdrawn by this point, yeah, I'd assume she's planning to compete.

Yet another last-minute ladies withdrawal.

^^^ Does anyone think Tennell cold play spoiler in France?

A hesitant yes. Medvedeva, of course, has loads of history and competitive "rock"dom going for her. But Bradie did get her at the Classic. And she can do the combo. It's a matter of whether she will nail it in the competition. Meanwhile, Kihira definitely has even more firepower. If she delivers, I don't think Bradie could get close. But last season, when the expectations were on Rika, she couldn't deliver so I'm kind of warily watching to see how things go for her as the expectations start to mount. And Konstantinova . . . well, I do think Bradie is as good as Konstantinova. So while I wouldn't pick Bradie to win this time around, I do think the possibility exists.

It's crazy to see already Kihira doing better at the senior than at the junior level. I had no idea what to expect at NHK. But Rika skated with such relaxation and freedom in her free skate. I have watched her program at least half a dozen times, and there are so many musical nuances and choreographic details. She and her team have created a gorgeous vehicle for her, and to be aptly rewarded by the judges, makes me equally happy.

Poor Karen. It must be so frustrating for a skater of her ability, to be hobbled by injuries and boot issues.

I hope she heals soon.

There’s some karma too - she flamed out with the one bootmaker that worked for her feet. I wonder if we will see her again in competition.

What do Sin/Kats and Gilles/Poirier need to do to make it to GPF

I am sill a bit mad about how unbalanced NHK is compared to France

Yeah looking at Rostelecom field it's even worse for depth

Yep. For comparison

NHK . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Rostelecom Cup
Zagorski/Guerreiro [W8 & seeded] . . . Stepanova/Bukin [W7 & seeded]
Hawayek/Baker [W10] . . . . . . . . . . . . Kaliszek/Spodyriev [W17]
Soucisse/Firus [W14] . . . . . . . . . . . . . Reed/Ambrulevicius [W20]
Nazarova/Nikitin [W15] . . . . . . . . . . . Yanovskaya/Lukacs [W27]
Wang/Liu [W18] . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Carreira/Ponomarenko [JW2]
Fear/Gibson [W24] . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Hurtado/Khaliavin [Euro8]
Skoptcova/Aleshin [JW1] . . . . . . . . . . Komatsubara/Koleto [4CC10]
Parsons/Parsons [4CC6] . . . . . . . . . . Evdokimova/Bazin [Rus Natl 5]
Komatsubara/Koleto [4CC10] . . . . . . Morozov/Bagin [nepotism pick]

In the latter case, Zahorski/Guerreiro go.

Yes, I think the "almost" definitely is Hawayek & Baker finishing sixth? or below in France. That or Stepanova & Bukin finishing below five of those stellarly ranked teams at Rostelecom. Also Hurtado & Khaliavin would have to finish third or below.

If H/B were beaten by either L/L or the Parsons, then both S/K, Z/G and G/P would go instead of H/B.
So is it below the top 5 then? Doesn't a 1&5 top 3&3?

Smart & Diaz could factor too.

Whoops my bad at maths, yes a 1&5 tops a 3&3.
I think I was thinking of the scenario

SK 2&3 = 24
GP 3&2 = 24
ZG 3&2 = 24
HB 1&5 = 22

If karma was involved she would be skating great just to show the jerks at her last boot company that they were not all that important. I don’t think she flamed out, I think they threw her under the bus and ran over her a few times.

No. that's not how it was. Chen's family (father) had a lot to do with this situation. He was very unfair to, aggressive and manipulative with Avanta's owner.

And by the way, the Avanta owner is NOT a jerk. He is an immigrant from central America, who came to US young and penniless, worked as a floor washer and all sorts of dirty jobs as a young boy and raised himself to be a company owner all on his own merit. He is a great man, with lots of integrity and is very hard working (alas, he is an emotional one and gets upset when he puts his heart out and give his clients all he has, and in return gets manipulated and pushed).

I know the story in details (took time to find out) but it is hardly the place or time now to rehash it.

They went on social media and trashed a teenager. End of discussion

I don't feel they trashed a teenager...but if a teenager / adult / kid /whatever goes on a public forum and starts balming ALL of their life problems on a person, company, whatever that company or person also has a right to defend themselves from going OUT of business.

Just because a teenager has access to a keyboard doesn't give them a free pass in life from being responsible and from doing whats right.

I felt that was SO SO SO wrong of Karen, and always will.

Karen's behavior was rather shocking to me and some of her other decisions as well.

Tammy let that behavior go on wayyyy too long before she herself finally admitted it. The remedy wasnt an 11th pair of boots from the same company. Reworking skating skills and technique was.

Replying to @Marco here (rather than in the U.S. Ladies thread):
I doubt this is a sudden event. I hope Karen is notifying the organizer with enough lead time for them to arrange for a substitute. Sometimes it isn't easy or quick to apply for a visa to Russia.
I am assuming Karen Chen's name will be removed from Rostelecom Cup on the ISU website tomorrow. Russia is not obligated to replace her at this point. She is not the only skater to make a final decision about competing in a GP the week beforehand.

Thanks Sylvia and that's a shame if they don't / can't replace her spot. It isn't like she surprisingly broke her boot the week before. This has been a long standing issue for her. She is obviously within her right to decide when she should make a final decision to wtihdraw, but I wonder how much she actually felt she could realistically compete at the Russia GP and the international the week after.

There are skaters who would love to have a chance to compete at a GP. I am thinking of when Michelle Kwan withdrew from Turin and when Evgeni Plushenko did from Sochi individuals.
