Is Skate Canada obligated to replace Choi with a Korean skater? Here are other possibilites (the USA/JPN/RUS girls are excluded since they have max spots):

US spots aren't maxed for Skate Canada. Only Mariah Bell is competing, so Angela Wang and Courtney Hicks are options. Alexia Paganini (SUI) also trains close by in NJ.

^^^ Angela Wang is even training in Canada (Edmonton) but Eunsoo Lim is more deserving of a 2nd GP based on her early season results (Asian Open Trophy gold & U.S. Classic silver), IMO. Plus Lim trains with Mariah Bell so coaching expenses could be shared.

If I were part of the Canadian fed, right now I'd be promising Kaetlyn Osmond a car, a pony, a lifetime supply of chocolate, anything to come back in time for Worlds. I'm not saying the other ladies don't have promise, but promise isn't going to help them keep Worlds spots. Even if Gabby is much better by then, it would be a heavy burden on her shoulders.

Yes. I don’t get why @misskarne is confused as she knows the rules. The two Canadians were withdrawn and Skate Canada (the organization) is acting completely within the rules by replacing their own host picks.

Competitive skating in the ladies category is at the point where an athlete needs to skate clean with three triples in the short, and seven triples in the free, for serious consideration.

I can't see how Skate Canada will maintain three spots in Saitama for Montreal 2020, with Daleman and Austman struggling, and Osmond out.

A very good opportunity for Mallet. To me, she is a skater's skater, much like Yuka Sato.

She also did so well at her first international in some time last weekend.

I understand your frustration, however those two spots are host picks. I am fairly sure Kailani was chosen by SC last year because they figured she was someone Austman had a slight chance of beating. We all know that didn’t happen. Now I don’t see Alicia or Veronik as having the same favoured status with SC so it is possible SC may choose Kailani for the third opening. Kailani trains in Southern California, yes? Expense wise she is a good option.

Kailani has the 16th highest SB of skaters who don't yet have 2 assigments. I don't think there's anything stupid or unbalanced going on. Even removing the JPN and RUS skaters, she is 8th highest. I like Kailani's skating, but I don't see why skaters 1-7 are supposed to be skipped over...

Yea, hope so too, but not that worried about Eunsoo, I think she will get another one- but either way she will be ok. Hanul just finished 10th at Finlandia scoring 153. Not sure if she might be recovering from an injury or something, but seems she wouldn't factor at a GP anyway.

I don't think anybody was under the impression Canada would keep three spots this year after Kaetlyn announced she was sitting it out. That's not really the goal, because it's impossible.
