ISU Grand Prix Assignments 2018/19 season

Ponomarenko vs Bukin!!!! (This has probably happened before but I don't follow juniors so much so...)

I doubt it. Stepanova & Bukin moved to senior in 2013-2014 season long before Carreira & Ponomarenko debuted at JGP.

Anthony was still competing in novices with Sarah Feng through 2013-14. Christina was also competing in novices with Mallette-Paquette that year. Carreira & Ponomarenko teamed up and debuted on the JGP the following season. Stepanova & Bukin are in a completely different junior ice-dance generation. Think I would say they get to "officially" go from being a "young senior team" to an "experienced senior team" this season.

And Alaine Chartrand replaces Nicole at SkAm!

Pairs GP France looks wide open aside from James & Cipres

Who did Koch & Nuchtern replace?

I hope Jorik is continuing. :(

So USA did go further down the list because of lack of available skaters in the current top 10. . It's a shame for Eunsoo Lim, she's currently the highest ranked available skater, trains in the USA and much more deserving of a 2nd spot than Alaine right now. CAN is lobbying hard :p

Koch & Nuchtern replace Mansourova & Ceska.

I thought maybe Lim would get it too but USFSA selected 2 Canadians, Chartrand & Reynolds... maybe just for cost and logistics reasons now. They didnt go as far down the list tho that Rostelecom will go once they fill their dance spots..... Child......

although now that I look at the list @haribobo did USFSA really didnt go far down the list. Their top 2 eligible choices are in fact Lin and Chartrand.

Lim trains with Marin who will already be at SA. This wasn't cost or logistics, IMO. Eunsoo is competitive.

Though I can see SA trying to pull Canadian ticket holders across the BC/Washington border.

^^ See what I just added above. I mean Lim and Chartrand are the top 2 eligible. The others are already at SkAm or are Americans and it isn't a host spot they were filling. Li is already doing pairs.

And for some reason they went with Canadians for both their replacements. You could be right maybe to attract more Canadians across the boarder to secure tix sales.

Lim would have been cheaper to fly in from CA than Chartrand. Reynolds will likely drive or take Amtrak to Everett station, like Leung did the last time SA was in Everett, which I only know because the train, running on single track and having to yield right-of-way to every freight train  was late, and we waited for her.

Hopefully, some of the BCers who weren't planning on coming will travel to support Reynolds.

ETA:
So does this put Kailani on the replacement list now? It would be great if she could get an assignment.
Since every event has the max of three Japanese and Russian skaters (including TBD's, which I assume will be filled by the hosts), if a skater from either country withdraws, then all of the skaters from that country* will bump Craine (and others) off the list for that spot. Otherwise, Craine is on it and eligible to be chosen.

*ETA2: who aren't already there.

So is USFS just going to skip inviting the TBDs to Champs Camp. I would think they would need to be packing today to travel tomorrow or maybe Saturday... but come on, why the secrecy? Do they have men in black suits spying at the rinks to make a last minute assessment?

We have have gossip on I think Jessica Calalang & Brian Johnson being the pairs TBA but nothing on the others. Ice Dance seems really odd as I think Katrina and Joe are the only ones on the list without a GP... seems a no brainer to me.

I get that ladies is a bit of a quagmire, but really Sean should be the choice for SA. I can sorta see the argument for Jimmy Ma, but i really want to see summer success rewarded.

This is getting silly... I don't want to wait for the bloody class photo!

And for some reason they went with Canadians for both their replacements.

Eunsoo Lim just defeated Starr Andrews at the Asian Open and both her and Bradie Tennell at the 2017 Junior Worlds. What more reason do you need? She's moving up to seniors, which means her base value has gone up since last season. Lim has a triple lutz triple toe and strong component scores. She managed to win the Asian Open over Shiraiwa, Yamashita, and Andrews despite basically imploding in the FS. SA could have invited Eunsoo before Rajcova in the first place and didn't.

Meanwhile Chartrand just lost to Mallet--who has 2? different triples--in Quebec.

I wish Lim had been given the SA spot. I know she doesn't have the pull of Kim, but it would have been interesting to see if any of the people who came out for her a decade ago would come back to see another Korean Ladies skater.

Finland got a second TBA spot when Nicole withdrew. Now Emmi Peltonen and Viveca Lindfors will both have an opportunity on the Grand Prix and without having to battle for the one host pick.
I don't know if I've ever seen that one before, a TBD spot reverting back to the host after it was thrown into the pool. I think it was a mistake to not keep the TBD's -- I've read that there is only supposed to be one TBD/discipline/host, but there have been occasions over the years where hosts have kept two.

Maybe they're giving Finland some slack for coming in at the last minute.

I doubt Calalang and Johnson are lying about being invited to Champs Camp.. That they're getting the TBD is an assumption based on the invite.

Unless you polled the audience, it'd be pretty difficult to tell if they were the same people!

Yes, while people might not fly clear across the ocean for her yet, there has to be a sizable Korean American community in Seattle as well as a Korean Canadian one in Vancouver. And while Eunsoo may not have broken out enough to bring them in yet, she might very well have brought in some people. 50,000+ hits for her Asian Open SP and 300,000+ for her Salzburg JGP short program last season on youtube. Her videos were popping up above those of the winners because so many fans were watching them. She is a senior national champion.

As has already been stated. Lim trains already in the USA west coast so cost/logistics were not the reason to skip her. And Chartrand wasn't the 2nd choice if we go by rank either. It was Hanul Kim.

While I no doubt that SC is capable of lobbying just as well as any of the big feds, I doubt they would waste their influence on Alaine (unfortunately.) I suspect this is 100% the USFSA wanting to give Starr the best chance for a successful GP debut.

Is it possible that the US and Canadian feds Just agreed to trade favors? For example, maybe USFS really wanted Denney-Frazier to get Skate Canada for some reason, and Skate Canada agreed to select them if USFS would give Alaine the first available SA replacement spot. Or something like that.
