ISU Grand Prix Assignments 2018/19 season

If any other teams drop out of the GP, we may have every eligible team with one. Incredible.

There’s still a chance of that happening since there are believed to be only two teams left on the list without one event who are together (BLR split)/on their national team (CHN not).

But yes, if there is one more dropout by a team with two events, then it’s possible that ALL eligible teams receive two events.

That happened in 2012, the first year that the alternates list was created. Scimeca/Knierim edged out Stolbova/Klimov by .95 at Coupe de Nice for the Pairs win, and that event was one of the handful of early events defined to allow winners to be added to the alternates list.

She announced she's taking a break. But she wasn't guaranteed a GP spot anyways.
She was atleast 1 assignment cause she is way ahead of Hicks, Wang, Andrews, Gold & Bell and Mariah got 2 assignments so then Wagner should definitaley have gotten 2

What frustrated me most was, even with her fantastic free skate in the PyeongChang team event, not even an 8 triple long program got her remotely the marks she deserved.

How much more can she do to be on par with the Russian and Japanese skaters?

It's too bad she isn't doing the GP Series, though. I was wondering how she could transfer her experience with Dancing With The Stars to the ice. Nagasu was so expressive on the floor.
her components are really low and she doesn't have the quality & elegance that let's say Medvedeva, Miyahara, Zagitova, or Sotskova & Higuchi

Yes, I had heard the rumours about M/C but hadnt seen anything official that's why I said if they are indeed continuing. Well, I guess this makes Reed/Ambrulevicius as the most likely option for the SA spot.

Finland could replace M/C with Evdokimova/Bazin or Yanovskaya/Lukacs.

And RUS could replace G&S with Torn/Partanen.
agree 100%

Ohh the long speculation game of GP's withdrawals replacements has started..

Im sad for Xiaoyu but health is first.

The next pairs in line on the SB list are:

- Liu & Johnson USA
- Stellato & Bartholomay USA
- Ruest & Wolfe CAN
- Hase & Seegert GER
- Poluianova & Sopot RUS
- Esbrat & Novoselov FRA
- Lu & Mitrofanov USA
- Walsch & Michaud CAN
- Pfund & Santillan USA
- Suzaki & Kihara JPN

SA and IDF become available: The two canadian teams have big chances to get the SA spot and French fed tends to invite obscure european skaters so Hase & Seegert more likely.
I think Skate America will Liu & Johnson & since Ruest/Wolfe already now have two assignments I think it will be a lower ranked american team that has not made GP debut

Actually Mariah got 2 assignments based on her placement at worlds.

She also would have had to be top 24 in season best list to have a guaranteed one which she did not.

She might have been top 24 world standings but i can't recall and I think they would be updated by now.

I think the post of mine you quoted from like 2 months ago is about Ashley? If it is, Ashley was not on the top 24 season's best or world standings list, and was not at Worlds, so she did not meet the guaranteed 2 spots, or even 1 spot. Gold got a spot as a returning skater. Hicks, Andrews, and Wang likely got spots based on their SB or WS. Remember Ashley didn't do any senior Bs, withdrew from SKAM, and did not compete at 4CC, Olys, or Worlds.

Ashley Wagner was 38th on the Seasons Best list. After the World Standings list was updated, she dropped to 34th, so she wasn't guaranteed any GP invitations (other than a host pick, which would also have been unlikely).

FWIW, I think Wagner would have been invited to at least 1 GP had she been included in the selection pool.
... At this point it is likely the spot either goes to Pfund/ Santillan, Digerness/ Neudecker, or Calalang/ Johnson.
Samurina was replying to an old July 17th post about the pairs spot vacated by Yu/Zhang (not the Skate America TBD host spot). Hase/Seegert were selected to replace Y/Z at Skate America on July 31.

Pairs grid has been updated... one of the Finland spots has been filled by Li/Xie.

I know it's a bit of a mystery how they qualify for such a spot....

The second Finland spot and the two France spots are still not shown as filled, though we know the France ones have been.

Also, two ice dance spots (NHK host spot and Russia) will now be open with the news of Reed/Muramoto splitting.

Unless a Federation has accepted a resignation or split or knows that an injury or illness is too severe, it is to their advantage to submit the skater/team in the initial selection and then give back the spot. It's a lot easier to give spots back than to get them later and intermittently through the alternates process.

sorry for my miscalculation, now with xli new spot, since hase and ruest are at France, there are just 2 spots to be filled (esbrat and Seguin spots, 3 if you count the USA TBD)

41 Lu & Mitrofanov - NHK
42 Walsh & Michaud - SC
43 Pfund & Santillan
44 Suzaki & Kihara - NHK
47 Barquero & Maestu

CHN lobbying ;)

The ladies alternate list is tricky. Since JPN and RUS are so dominant currently they have already maxmised their spots in the field and almost all the next 10 in line are also from those 2 countries:

JPN Yuna Shiraiwa (FIN)
RUS Sofia Samodurova (SA)
RUS Alena Leonova (none)
JPN Rika Hongo (FIN)
RUS Serafima Sakhanovich (none)
KOR Eun-Soo Lim (COR)
RUS Valeria Mikhailova (none)
USA Angela Wang (NHK)
USA Courtney Hicks (NHK)
RUS Alisa Fedichkina (none)

Wang and Hicks can't be picked at SA so that leaves just Lim as the obvious choice. The 2 americans would easily get the Finland spot.

While it's never been stated explicitly, some of the selections in the past might indicate that the list has been expanded if the list contains too many unqualified skaters for the open spot. Of course, it could simply be random flaunting of the announcement, the way the Li/Xie spots seem to be.

How far down the list is

1. Isadora Williams

2. Any Finnish ladies

3. Brooklee Han

4. Kaliani Craine (last year she was on the circuit.)

And are Roberta Rodeghiero and Polina Edmunds done?

It will be interesting to see if they expand the list for this situation or they just fill the spots with the only skaters eligible within the top 10.

I wonder about that as well. If you go strictly by the next top 10 on the subs list, USFS literally has to take Lim because she's the only one from a country that hasn't hit the country maximum and isn't American. Of course, they should take Lim anyway because she's the highest-ranked available skater and it's no economic hardship for USFS since she trains in CA.

Thanks so Paganini who is further down the list got an invite. Kraine is slightly higher up that list so is it feasible that Kraine could get an invite since Paganini got an invite?

We don't know. SamuraiK's list in post #321 is the list of athletes that we know are on the replacement list. You have to be among the top ten athletes with either 1 or 0 spots already assigned on the GP to be clearly on that list. It doesn't matter that Paganini was selected during the initial draw. It only matters who is among the top ten after the draw is over. However, since so many of the athletes in that top ten list are ineligible for selection due to Russia & Japan having maxed out their spots, people are speculating that the current ladies replacement list might include athletes ranked below Fedichkina.
