Yes. The second one. They call it the Rippon variation. It kind of looks like that variation makes him more streamlined so he rotates even faster. Or maybe it just looks that way because we can more easily see his torso. Either way, it looks awesome.

Epic is the word! I still can't believe what I saw. I was literally speechless. 40+ years of watching skating, I have never seen a skater do effortless jumps like that. Just fantastic.

I wasn’t watching but I thought his mom gets nervous watching so he doesn’t like to Come watch him.plus they have other skaters they coach.

Ilia has named it a raspberry twist - Malinin means 'raspberry' in Russian. Yes, he's done it all season in both the SP and FS.

DH and I are planning a trip back to DC. We’ll go to whatever event is planned to welcome Ilia. For ex, I wonder if Ilia will appear at the April 20 ice show? I hope that he’s not at some Art on Ice or Japanese tour then.

I wish that there was a decent tour in the USA, with all or most of the World medalists & non-medalist faves, as I recall during the late 70s and early 80s, produced by Tom Collins. It wasn’t even called “Champions on Ice” then. It was way before SOI existed.

Well, there’s hope of seeing Ilia live in the US. SOI Japan ends April 7 & SOI Canada begins April 25. His rink’s ice show is in between. There is HOPE, if the stars align.
