Its that time of year again where I feel like I just skated at My Nationals (Ive put skates on 5 times in life), just won the title and am off to Worlds.

I always think of the songs that speak to me and that I would do severe justice to.

If you were a figure skater (maybe some of you are) what music would you select for your two programs?

SP: Totentanz. I would make this a powerful routine. I would go full throttle (cray) for my costume... A mummy and even wear face makeup to complete the look!

Free: Gets difficult, cant narrow it to one yet.

Option 1: Dante's Prayer, and serve Michelle Kwan realness! Maybe even ask her permission to use some of the choreography.

Option 2: S'apre per te il mio cuore (Sampson and Delilah) Irina Slutskaya used at Hallmark

Option 3: Mashup of Swan Lake and Carnival of The Animals - The Swan. Ill do a warhorse done right y'all! Simple black pants, black tight long sleeve shirt with white feathers going down one arm.

Option 4: Jesus To A Child - George Michael.

I'd make my free program the softer and more lyrical program.

What would some of you guys choose to skate to????

What a fun thread AngieNikodinovLove! I’m a big fan of everyone’s choices.

I would try to mix it up since in my fantasy I’d be a very versatile skater ?.

So I’d do “ Satanist” by the Crown for my short program and “Shout to the Lord” for my long.

Well, I would want to skate to things that you NEVER hear, so here goes:

SP: a mashup of Carmen/"Exogenesis"/Firebird
LP: "Les Mis"/"Notre Dame de Paris"/"Sound of Silence"/"Feelin' Good", all in the key of C

The lack of originality in musical selections may be the most grating part of watching this sport. It wasn't a problem for me in the '90s or the 2000s, but somewhere around 2014 I just lost it with skaters robbing each other's songs (and cuts) and the horrible repetitiveness. People who are involved in the sport and who are journalists: would you please ask judges, coaches, skaters, parents, etc. about this topic? I'd like to know what they think- whether they also get sick of rehashes, what the rationale is (I mean seriously, is it that EVERY skater sees a program of a role model and thinks, "I want to do my own 'Schindler's List'/[insert song title]"?), etc. For fans old and new, I feel as though a range of music would be a great thing, but maybe I'm the only one who believes that.

To seriously answer the question, it's tough. Here's a stab:
SP: "Angel" by Lionel Richie
LP: a mix of "The Fabulous Baker Boys" soundtrack by Dave Grusin

Something that I feel confident no one else had ever skated to. For starters...

SP: Intermezzo by Kurt Atterberg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G876R_5BOU4
LP: Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima by Krzysztof Penderecki https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dp3BlFZWJNA

And never, EVER some monochromatic ballad that has no ups and downs in the music. Totally inappropriate for a competitive program, in my opinion (although I'm aware that they are all the rage in skating programs these days). Blech!!

I would be an ice dancer obviously, as it is the greatest of the disciplines according to general consensus :).

For the rd, I would want to skate to this, but obviously there would be potential issues depending on the rhythm. Could I get it to be a waltz maybe? Beats me but that seems closest (look I never claimed to be a technical expert here). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chWW-sdnSDM

For the free, I'm really into the idea of skating to Don't Think Twice It's Alright right now. Probably lacking a change of rhythm I guess (I don't really care though, this is just imaginary anyway, I can take some deductions).

The exhibition would be my long proposed Bela Lugosi Is Dead gothfest obviously, although I think Kostornaya's caped exhibition may already have so met my goals for that program that I need to consider something new at this point.

Has anyone ever skated to the Mulholland Drive soundtrack? That's a good one.

Short program

Long program

Exhibition - (with DG as my partner, of course ?)

SP: Homeward Bound (performed by William Joseph)
LP: Hallelujah Chorus (because tradition calls for the audience to stand as soon as it starts...and remain standing until it's end)
EX: Take Me Out to the Ballgame
