I Have Got to Stay Out of Sephora (and other glamourpuss issues)

I use my fingers to spread the foundation over my face, and then a sponge (Real Techniques complexion sponge) or a brush to blend the foundation and/or concealer. :) I like lots of coverage!!!
 
Fingers or a damp sponge here. I like sheer coverage.

I am loving my Tria now that summer is over and I can abuse my skin again, aka poke tiny holes with the laser in it. I am also getting my first Hydrofacial in a few weeks, supposedly the latest and the greatest in cosmetic derm. Will report back.
 
Fingers or damp sponge too. Sometimes a brush but I use a flat top skunk brush. I never understood why they use those paddle type foundation brushes...
 
I have, even at this late date, rather shiny skin, especially in the t-zone. The up side is fewer wrinkles despite the lifelong smoking and tanning. The downside is that applying foundation with a brush requires a lot of product to "stick." For some reason it works better with my fingers.

I have a swollen side of my nose this morning. Some kind of infection or swelling INSIDE the nose, which is weird. Of course I will go thru the day wondering if everyone is noticing my face is lopsided and it's probably something only I can see.

But I've come to the conclusion that kind light is everything. The avatar pic was taken on the Tel Aviv beach as the sun was setting, and there's a pinkish floodlight in my face as well. I love this picture because I don't look 59, but I can hardly restrict my movements to sunsets and pink lightbulbs, can I.

The Hourglass ambient powders are marketed as having similar effects on your face as soft lighting.

I've never tried them (mostly because of cost) but remain interested in them.

Anyone have any experience (good, bad, ugly) with the Hourglass ambient powders?
 
I agree with @PRlady about good lighting. Florescent lighting is my enemy! My current avatar was taken by my kitchen window in the morning light, and then the process filter on my iPad. The original colors are more pink and gold. It was a good hair day (yes, this is good hair, for me, shush), and I feel the need to mark those rare occasions when all my cowlicks are all tamed at the same time. :glamor:

I didn't plan on it, but I bought a new Essie nail polish yesterday in a very pale lavender/periwinkle shade. It's very pretty and it's almost exactly the color I plan on painting my hallway and stairwell some day. :p My nails and hands are taking a beating now, as I am slogging massive quantities of books about at the store, and as soon as the furnace kicks in, all the moisture gets sucked right out of them.
Using massive amounts of Aveeno right now, but may need something more. I noticed up thread that several of you mentioned Aquaphor, so maybe I will see if I can find some of that.
 
I hear ya on moisture-sucking furnaces and dry winter skin!

My favourite hand cream for before-bed treatment is Biotherm's hand and nail treatment. Lovely scent. For day-to-day after hands washing, we keep unscented Lubriderm by the kitchen and bathroom sinks - I also use it as a general body lotion.

For cuticles, the best treatment I've found is Dior's Apricot Cream. It's a classic product (1963), expensive, but a little goes a long way, so IMO worth it. It's a bit sticky/greasy, so best bet is to keep it on your nightstand and apply before bed.

Thank goodness you guys are talking about moisturizers! I need serious help in that department. Since I started skating again my skin AND hair have gone crazy! Aquaphor is managing my skin but I don!t want to put on my hair. Anyone know of a good hair product to put on before skating?

I switch to Neutrogena Triple Moisture shampoo as soon as the heat comes on and try to wash my hair every third day instead of every other day. The other thing that seems to help is not drying my hair bone dry with the hair dryer.

I remember the Apricot Cream from about 30 years ago! Seems to me it worked well, but I found the scent to be a bit overpowering. I try to get unscented products as much as possible. My poor cuticles definitely need extra help though.

About twice a week I smush Pantene Overnight Miracle into my hair, it really does moisturize my dry frizzy curls and it's cheap. I'd apply it before going skating (a hair problem I do not have. :P)

Try the Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle cream. Not expensive, and I find it quite effective. Good for my cuticles, and my nails seem to be healthier when I use it as well.
 
So, the whole baby feet process took overall 10 days.
The skin looks very even, but my points of pressure (ball of foot, outer heel and that pad that stays under the small toe (like it's a bunion, but on the little toes side...?)) still have thick skin, but it's not dry and yucky like before. Even the skin at the corner of the toe nails (which for me is super thick and tough) just came off!
I feel like the situation now is manageable with just moisturizer.

I can see myself going for it again in a couple of months.
(and it might be just for pulling the dead skin off, soo satisfying :rofl: :slinkaway yeah, I'm gross)

Sorry, I just saw this. I occasionally apply the eyeliner to the top lid, if I am in the mood. Lately I just tightline, use mascara and go on casual workdays. For nights out, I tightline and apply eyeliner to the upper lid and lower lid waterline.I think it's Very Dramatik but it somehow always looks subtle in pictures. I always use mascara.

I am sorry, I forgot the name of the product you used. It sounds like it did the job! What was it?

Wanted to let you know about my recent experience with Tria. I was psyched to start using it again to combat all the sun damage accumulated from the summer. So I overdid it even though it beeps when it wants you to move on to another section of your face. The areas I'd overdone broke out in tiny itchy bumps. I used Rx strength hydrocortisone and it seems to be calming down after 3 days or so. Ugh. Be careful, ladies and gents. I am off Tria for a few weeks.

I have tried the Hourglass ambient lighting face powders and the blush. The blush, IMO, is not worth the money. It is nice, but so are many other much less $$$ blushes. Nothing about it was better than anything else I've tried. Color payoff was meh and staying power not great either.

The ambient lighting face powders are good in my experience. Does it make you look like you're basking in the best light possible at all times? Probably not, but the finish is very nice, and somehow makes the wrinkles and pores seem less evident.

I have the trio with the highlighter in it. The highlight shade is gorgeous on, but I have oily skin and after a while that can really look icky. So I have to be careful with that, but overall I like the product. I probably won't repurchase the palette, but I did get a travel size of the "Dim light" as I used that up already.

I'm not sure I'm ready to call this my HG face powder yet, but I do like it.
 
Josie Maran's argan oil is great for both dry hair and cuticles. The mini bottle is $15 at Sephora and has lasted ages.

My humidifier was put out last week. I can always tell when dry winter air is here, because I brush through my hair once and it's filled with static!
 
My beauty woes continue.

I've had a lob for about six months and had grown it out so now my hair was well past the shoulders. Had a trim somewhere along the line. Today I went to the hairdresser who knows me well and asked her to take off about an inch and refresh the layers. I made it very clear I don't want to go back to the lob.

I got the lob. She took off a good 3-4 inches. And I got a head full of product that makes my hair look dirty and smell like old lady perfume. She knows I don't like any product in my hair but seems to be on autopilot today. Seems wrong that the first thing you want to do after you'd stepped out of the salon is to wash the gunk out of your hair, which I did.

First world problems, I know. At least my hair grows fast. *reaches for the biotin pill*
 
Since we are going on vacation over thanksgiving, leaving next Friday evening, I was worried my VIB sale order I put in today would not make it - they said add 2-3 days to shipping because of high volume. So I got Sephora Flash (free 2 day shipping for a year - $10). That will come in handy, right?
 
I am such an impatient idiot. I should have waited one more week to spend more than $100 at Sephora (on four products!) and saved the 20 percent. Phooey.

As it is I am again staring at the wrinkles under my eyes and wondering what miracle product will make them go away. Answer: there aren't any.

The funny part is that yesterday I got an email saying that I am now only $1 away from securing my VIB benefits for next year.

Like why did I not spend more on my online purchase?!?!? Argh......:wall: :lol:
 
Folks are posting on facebook and twitter that they are mad that Sephora is not allowing rouge members to use the vib 20% for two weeks in a row. I posted the following because I couldnt' stand it anymore.
As a VIB rouge member you do get the VIB membership benefits of 20% off. However you get the benefit a week earlier than non rouge members. One 3 day weekend earlier. Also, as a rouge member I was allowed to use the 20% discount as much as I wanted last week on an unlimited amount of purchases(I knew what I wanted so I bought my purchases all at the same time). With all the horrors going on in the world I can't believe people are bitching over the fact they interpreted the VIB member rules as getting 20% off for two weeks in a row. Must be nice to bitch about 1st world problems like shopping for skin care and beauty products.
