I agree. I have a 5x8 rug under my cocktail table, and it reaches a large part of my living room area in front of the couch and chair. So that can work very well.

Definitely measure before you order anything. Agents often round up and, as you noted, include other areas within the boundaries of a room.
 
Getting down to crunch time, with regards to getting things in order for our living and diningroom makeover. In order to do that, everything from those two rooms needs to be moved out, mostly into our main floor bedroom. So, we have to get our new upstairs bedroom ready for use, so we can move up there as the old bedroom will be crammed full.

I haven't been doing any painting as this summer has been so hot, but I have reached the point where it must be done, as we are going to purchase a new bed this Wednesday, and will need the painting completed. Shortly I will be going up there and I am not allowed to come out until it's done! :yikes:

The husband has managed to repaint all the trim, so it's just the galaxy painting that needs to be done. I have 4 wall sections and the entire ceiling to do. I want to do the Milky Way on the ceiling and am hoping I have it in me to manage that. :wideeyes: (Why do I do this to myself.....:wall:)

Please think of me today!! I need all the support I can get!
 
I terrify myself with these stoopid ideas, I tell you.
No wonder my husband looks at me like this :rolleyes: and :duh:.
 
Painting sucked today. Couldn't get in the groove and the paint wasn't cooperative, so my organic style of letting it flow was pretty much a bust. Not happy with most of what I did. Still have one section of wall to do plus the entire ceiling. Meh. And I still have laundry to do too. Double meh.
 
I was able to get a ton of nice decorations, a few lamps, etc., from Kirklands, and I found their prices back then to be very, very reasonable.
 
Would like to get some panel type window treatments and I want something nice and elegant. Thinking linen or silk? I want my home to look "sumptuous" and elegant, so I am thinking I will make the wall paint which is a light cocoa with matching panels in the linen or silk. NOt sure if I should go with the tabbed or metal grommets, either. So many decisions.

Has anyone ever gone with linen drapery panels?

Personally I'm not a fan of drapery in general, but I would have the panels contrast somewhat from the wall color. Lighter colors make windows look bigger and the room lighter. For something sumptuous, I recommend a heavier fabric. Very lightweight ones tend to look cheaper and less elegant imho.
 
I am not a curtain person either, other than white sheer or lacy types as an accent, but if I were going for a sumptuous, elegant look, silk sounds lovely, and either a little darker or a little lighter than your wall color, not the exact same color. Grommets are more contemporary and tabs are more traditional, although I like both.

We have ordered a new bed from Ikea, and went mattress shopping today, but still want to check out a couple of other mattress stores before we decide.
We did get paint for the living and diningrooms, a new step ladder, and a silvery grey duvet cover though, so we have made some progress.
And last week, I got a new shower curtain!! :D

Be careful. Home Goods can be addicting. :lol: My friend says I'm not allowed to bring her with me anymore because she always buys several things she doesn't need. She has to talk herself out of going in every time she goes by. I love the place. I do have more candles than I need, but that's better than buying fun Halloween decor that I definitely don't need.

The best rug I ever bought was from Overstock.com . I was very nervous about buying a rug online, but it turned out to be a beautiful rug at a great price. Reviews can be very helpful.
 
We will be painting the living and dining rooms this weekend. I am hoping to get it all done, but I always underestimate the prep time, even though I know better. So realistically all that will probably take all my Friday night and most of Saturday, and I won't get to the actual painting until Sunday. The husband and son will do the rollering and I will do all the cutting in. (I love that part!)
Somehow, my husband has also scheduled himself to play golf on Friday night, and he and son are also going to the air show in London either on Sat or Sun. :huh: :wall:

It's going to be a marathon weekend for sure. :yikes:

As for my galaxy bedroom, all the walls are done, except I am still tweaking the stars, and I have the entire ceiling to do yet. But we pick up our new bed today, and we still need to get a mattress, sheets and a duvet.
I did buy two new bedside lamps, mirror bases with dark grey subtly sparkly shades, and a string of star lights that I will hang on a nice piece of driftwood over the window.

I have sold my idea to my husband about putting a whole wall of built in shelves in our diningroom. We are still discussing the actual design for it, and I may need to compromise somewhat, but I think it will be pretty close to what I had in mind.

I am having trouble finding the types of tiles I want for our entry way and fireplace surround even though I have no problems finding a hundred pictures of them on pinterest! :D That's lower on the priority list, but I would like to get that project done this fall too.
 
Stalking Lowe's has paid off! I got a super cute chair set for my new front porch for half off. I'd been eyeballing this set but no way was I going to pay full price of $398 for it. For $200 I couldn't buy it fast enough :lol: It was the floor model so already assembled, and I checked it over carefully and no wicker is broken or bent, only the chair cushions are a tiny bit dirty/worn from being sat on. For the price I will deal!!

Ok I have a toilet in the laundry room but no sink, doesn't have proper wall or flooring. I want to make it into a proper washroom with little sink. Do you think I start with the plumber first for the small sink or do I trust a handyman type guy? Hubby is useless.. I just want to call someone an make it happen, ideally don't want to spend more than a few thousand .. Any ideas? We both work full time, commute an are tired I just want a fairy godmother come to my house an fix everything
