Gymnastics News #23: Defying Gravity

I don't really give a shit about Bogi ever since she defended Vavlieva for the dope she took.

"We were also given vitamins all the time and they didn't help us perform they were just normal things." LOL
I kind of give those who grew up under an incredible commandeering Soviet regime a bit of a pass on the way they process and react to that sort of news. Now, if she started to become an staunch advocate for drug use, then I’d reconsider… yes I know that even her comment on this can be seen as advocacy.

I was just going to ask, because the CBC live feed is still on 'Program About to Start', and the automated voice is getting annoying.
Rotation 1 already started. James Hall just came off the pommel, messy from the start.

The only other thing we saw so far was Chiba from Japan on floor.

Came here to say that! I still remember that awful year here they didn't qualify for the first time...all the girls having a meltdown.

Do you know if Voinea is injured and didn't do AA?
Not injured. Just really bad at bars. Not a chance to qualify for top 24. She decided to focus on beam and floor trying to get to the finals. Still strange that she got such a low E score on beam.

Minor distraction from men's gymnastics. The US women's linups for tomorrow are out:

Vault: Jones, Roberson, Biles
Bars: Blakely, Biles, Jones
Beam: Wong, Jones, Biles
Floor: Roberson, Jones, Biles

Basically AA for Shi and Simone, 2 for Joscelyn, and 1 each for Leanne and Skye.

Where did you find that? I would be interested in the other teams too but on the fig site there is no list yet?

Taking Blakely out of beam for Wong is probably a good decision. Glad all five teams members get at least one event.

Me too. With the 3 up-3 count format, I've grown to really love it when all members participate in the team final; when it's the best strategy, of course.

With 2 rotations remaining the battle for gold is on - 0.134 separating Japan in 1st from China in 3rd with Great Britain 2nd, and the US about 2 points back in 4th.

The US is just over a point behind Japan. Tight competition at the top!

I'm going to expect a 4th or less placement for the US unless they somehow pull off six spectacular performances in the final two rotations.
