Gymnastics #25 - Onward to LA

NBC keeps getting thwarted from stalking Wong due to her continued attempts to flash her brand logo. Although they seem fine talking about her businesses during their fluff pieces.
 
Team seemed very likely to be Hezly, Leanne, Joscelyn, and Skye at the end of Nationals unless someone else won camp. Now there's a spot wide open. Jayla Hong is probably the most likely to grab it.

I wish someone would get Hezly away from Valeri Liukin, but it certainly won't be her dad.

Agree on Jayla. Claire probably has a chance too. (Plus Liukin :blocjudge)

I just saw that. Bizarre, so similar to Hezly’s announcement. I’d say Jayla is practically a lock considering her early season results.

Question for someone who doesn't check in regularly and know the team composition #s, but how many gymnasts will be on the World team this year? Is it back down to 4 or still 5?

It’s an individual Worlds - no team event, just AA and individual events. So for Women it is 4, and for Men it is 6, same as the number of events. Only 3 can go on each event in qualifying.

For Women, we will expect to see 2 on AA, then probably Skye on UB, BB and someone else on VT, FX.

I would say that if Jayla can beat Josc in AA at camp, the team would likely be:
AA: Leanne, Jayla
UB, BB: Skye
VT, FX: Josc

That being said, Josc watered down her vaults at nationals to try to save her ankles, so that's a little questionable. But honestly, there's no reason not to send her.

If Jayla looks more like she did at nationals, the picture is much murkier. Almost no one vaulted twice at nationals, not even Josc. Jayla does have a second vault, but she's not a logical floor specialist. Ashlee Sullivan actually finished 3rd on floor behind Hezly and Josc at nationals and has good start values. Again, I think she has a second vault, so she's potentially in the mix for that spot.

Either way, this team for the US is not likely to bring home a lot of medals. There's a lot of work to do in the next four years, especially on start values.

It's honestly very weird that both WOGA gymnasts "rolled their ankles" and withdrew at about the same time with similar statements.
 
I was surprised that a rolled ankle in mid-September would prevent Hezley from competing in late October. More than a month to recover should be enough, especially since it is basically an individual meet and she doesn’t need to do AA.
 
USAG posted on their facebook that Dulcy Caylor won the AA at the trials and therefore the auto berth on the team. I don't think anyone had predicted that.

No, but she sure has a great vault. Wish she had 2!

Seems the AA order was Dulcy, Leanne, Joscelyn, Ashlee, Jayla, Simone. Skye didn’t have a great UB and fell off beam. Gabby only did 3 events, had the second highest beam score.

Joscelyn and Dulcy tied for highest FX, Joscelyn won beam, Ashlee won bars, and I think Jayla on VT, but I don’t see Leanne’s average.

Taking a look at the scores, I am not sure it matters too much who we send. I don't think there's going to be much of a medal haul.

My guess is: Dulcy (automatically qualified), Skye (could contend for beam and bars if she hits), Josc (could contend on floor if she hits or vault but I know she's been worried about her ankles), and Leanne (could contend on vault if she hits, especially if others miss). That would be Leanne/Dulcy AA, Josc Vault/Floor, Skye Bars/beam

Skye is probably most likely to get left home because she's hasn't been hitting consistently, but the alternative is probably Leanne/Dulcy AA, Josc Beam/Floor, Jayla Bars/Vault. (Or Josc could vault and Jayla just bars.)

I don't think Skye has really earned it in the sense of being fully back and showing her best, but she may be worth taking over others who have been more consistent because she can medal if she hits, and others potentially can't.

Skye: UB BB
Dulcy UB
Leanne VT BB
Ashley FX BB

USA gymnastics posted results on FB, but some of the math (VT averages) doesn’t add up, and it looks like Dulcy did BB, not UB (maybe typo?). Anyway, Skye posted 14+ on both her events.
 
Skye went 14.450 on bars and 14.050 on beam, so I'd say she's on the team.

Leanne got 14.5/13.9 on Vault, but Beam only 13.2

Josc only vaulted and got 14.1/13.4

Jayla 14.4/13.5 on vault, 13.0 on floor

Dulcy only did beam and got a 13.55. She didn't really have to do anything because her spot is guaranteed.

Ashlee 14.00 on bars.

Honestly it looks like the best team would be Jayla, Josc, Leanne, and Skye, but that's not an option anymore. I suspect they will take Josc because she can do floor/vault well and Jayla isn't great on floor, but they could take Jayla because they are worried about Josc's ankles.

Either way, I expect Leanne and Skye to make the team with Dulcy and one of Josc or Jayla. The other will be alternate, probably along with Ashlee if they name a second.
 
Gymnastics Now also shows Joscelyn with 13.1 on BB and Ashlee with 13.55 on FX. That’s different from what USA Gym posted.

As you predicted, Dulcy, Leanne, Skye, Joscelyn with 2 alts Jayla and Ashlee.
