Gymnastics #24 - The Road to Paris

That was a really great moment for Josc! I feel if she’s ahead in the AA, they’ll take her. Even though she’s never going to score anywhere near that on beam most likely, thus making the whole thing somewhat moot.

But just behind Hezly! I think it’s Hezly’s now.

Josc outscored Tiana on all 4 events tonight.
Tonight, yes, but Tiana beats her on the 4-score average on beam - but, I don't think Tiana is in the mix because her bars score is just so bad. Right now, I think that Kaliya and Tiana are both probably out of the running and it's down to Leanne, Hezly & Josc.

After that floor I’m leaning to either Jocelyn or Tiana

I still think it’s Hezly. The beam score is what matters to team finals and Joscelyn and Hezly are tied on beam for trials. If we’re thinking about who can fill in if something goes wrong, Hezly is ahead in AA.

Tiana has a lower floor score than Suni tonight, so I don’t think floor tonight helps her.

I really wanted a team of the 4 S’s and then whoever for 5th (probably Jordan based on this weekend), so I’m kind of sad about Shilese and Skye. I’m probably getting 2 S’s (yay) and 3 J’s (ok to meh).

It’s unfortunate as Skye, Shilese and Kayla will be missed making this 5th spot so tough.
Not to mention Konnor McClain who started off great at nationals before rupturing her Achilles.
Because Carey would have to go up on bars in prelims.
Not sure this is such a bad thing? Why shouldn't she have a shot at qualifying for AA finals again?

I’ll acknowledge my huge bias but I am really rooting for Tiana to get that 5th spot. She has beautiful lines and the type international judges reward. She also could contribute well on Beam that the US team needs and decent backup FX VT scores. Hezly out scored her on Beam but I wouldn’t put a new senior without senior international experience on the Olympics as their first international. And Josc does not gave the lines that international judges would reward. It’s unfortunate as Skye, Shilese and Kayla will be missed making this 5th spot so tough.

This shouldn’t factor into decision making, but I also love the South Asian representation. Grew up never seeing fellow South Asians in my fave sports of skating and gymnastics so love to see her succeeding!
They put a new 16-year-old on the team a few Olympics ago and they won a gold medal.
