Gymnastics #24 - The Road to Paris

I was sitting right in front of where Khoi stepped off the podium after floor. Uh….he could not really use one leg. I think the injury bug got him
I will be so sad if his injury causes him to not make the team. Skye is bad enough. I wonder if the mistakes due to injury got into his head during other parts of the competition. PH was horrific for him and that wasn't an injury issue. (His mother was pointing to her head after that routine.) I really hope he gets it together for the second day. I'm really sad for Whittenburg, too. I think he was too close and wanted it too much. :(

For me, the bright point of today's competition was seeing Asher bounce back after his disappointing performance at Nationals. He's not my favorite, but I am happy for him. It also was nice to see Frederick Richard do as well as he did.

With injury issues and seeing what Nedoroscik actually put out there, I'm going to be disappointed if he makes the team. But, part of that is my bias and wanting to see certain other gymnasts make it who definitely are not a lock.

Swipe to the last slide to see the Canadian team that was just named. I’m curious what peoples thoughts are. I can’t really say anything because of my involvement in the program.

Only three women and three men?

Where have you been hiding Rene and William from me?

I'm so glad that USA gymnastics is thinking about the athletes' well being.

Every time I see a new post in this thread, I'm afraid to read that Khoi Young had to withdraw due to injury. Praying he has a good day tomorrow, especially on PH where he's really needed.

I’m sure this was probably already discussed but is Peacock just showing each gymnastics apparatus as an individual tile/show? With no commentary and no displaying of scores? Just trying to figure this out.

I will be seriously bummed if Khoi is unable to recover from last night. He and Donnell seriously broke my heart on night 1. I feel so bad for them and seriously hope they can rebound. Also, why is NBC not showing enough love for Paul Juda? Juda has the 3rd highest pommel horse score and the 2nd highest floor score, two areas where the favorite US men really struggled on night 1. He was a member of last year’s US bronze medal winning team at last year’s Worlds as well.

After night 1, my men’s team is: Richard, Malone, Juda, Wiskus, and Moldauer. This is taking into account their results at Nationals as well. I think Young still has a chance since he was 3rd in the all around at Nationals and the fact that he is a 3-time reigning World medalist, 1 bronze and 2 silvers. He HAS to give the selection committee justification to bump one of those 5 on night 2! After his abysmal Nationals, I think Hong really needed to be cleaner on night 1 of trials, but he really blew it on PH and HB. I think he needs to have the meet of his life on night 2 to have a hope of making the team.

One of the women just got helped off after a fall on beam. I know who I “think” it was but I’m at the far end so not posting. ?. But regardless it’s sad

(I know it was not someone in Simone’s group they are on bars)

I was right. Shilse Jones ?

But she’s still here

Stephen is getting more coverage tonight than Paul Juda....I am not amused.
That is some serious bullshit too! :angryfire I get that Stephen is a former World Champion on PH, but that’s the only event he is competing on and then he waters down the difficulty in his routine. Plus, Juda competes all events and was 3rd on PH and was scored pretty closely to Stephen, yet Juda practically gets ignored even though he was 4th in the all around on night 1 and 6th in the AA at Nationals. Make it make sense!

I hate to say this, but apparently part of his problem is he doesn’t show much personality. He’s all business and they’re looking for entertainment
