I find that playing nice and being respectful can sometimes be incredibly ineffective. Gracie had a bigger point to make and I applaud her for making it. It is nothing like Trump's tweets at all. Really, if the use of profanity is your biggest issue, then I think it might simply be a difference about ideas about whether we need to be "nice" and "polite" and "appropriate".

I think once a while, trolls should be put in their place. Not for the benefit of the troll, but the benefit of the skater and those who may be reading and could learn something. If Gracie starts responding to every little Tweet to the point where it becomes a compulsion and is unhealthy for her, then I would worry, but she only responded to one asshole tweet and reading her response was amazing.

I do support such approach, in general, but not in all situations. In some situations a "punch" requires a "contra-punch". If one is surrounded by people of his/her own class and level, and yet someone says something auslanderish, then it's best to remain "elegant".

But in today's world, on social media especially, when one is exposed to people from "all walks of life" who feel empowered to make comments without consequences, it's best "to use a baseball bat against a baseball bat". Elegant behavior can't stand up to a "baseball bat" (figuratively speaking).

Reading some of these posts I just shake my head in dismay. When did Gracie Gold ever, EVER shut down a social media post about her? Never! And as soon as she does she's criticized for it. I'm hoping that this is part of her recovery and that she's realising that she is allowed to speak up for herself when she feels the need to do so! More power to her. That's what I thought too. Although I didn't check his profile. But I really thought he was trying to give her a compliment, in a very fecked up way. lol But he might have been a real jerk instead. Trying to disguise an insult with a "compliment", idk.
