Gold on Gold: Lajoie & Lagha Cheer thread!

Interesting that you pointed out that Lala may have switched from Romain to MF/P as their main coach. I can't imagine this was their choice? But perhaps an internal conversation after FB/C returned to competition. They have such natural talent and I feel like IAM in general hasn't prioritized them enough. Wishing nothing but good things for this team.

And an English translation!

I wonder if Marie-France is their main coach now? Maybe I'm reading too much into it and it is just a translation but Marjorie's quote about them taking a "big step" this year by working more closely with MF/Patrice, them not feeling alone anymore...

I have been hoping for that for a while now. I wasn't a big fan of them with Romain as their main coach. I think MF and Patrice are what they need to take that step to the major podiums. I hope this isn't just a one off for this season because Romain is too busy with his Euro teams. Hopefully Skate Canada is on the same page and encouraging this because G/P will be gone and they need LaLa to be with the best training situation going forward.

100% agree. I've been hoping for this also.

Also with Chock /Bates most likely moving on after this season, this feels like a natural progression and MF & Patrice have more availability.

Very true. What they need above all is for Skate Canada to position them as their new #1 moving forward. SkateCan has majorly fumbled on their young talent... they need to get their act together to contend in the future.

Agree if it is the case, they’re going to be Skate Canada #1 anyway - maybe as soon as after their next two competitions if G/P skip Worlds. I'm kind of upset that they felt alone at some point, that shouldn’t be happening with a team of their caliber. The optics are also cleaner with MF & Patrice being Canadian, probably something of worth to the federation.

A warm surprise for Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha before their departure for Italy by Diane Lapointe:
Auto-translated excerpts:
Friends of Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha surprised the ice dance duo with a touching gesture on Saturday before lunchtime in front of the Boucherville arena. Despite the cold, parents, friends, and skaters from the Boucherville Figure Skating Club gathered, armed with whistles, flags, drums, and trumpets, to cheer on the athletes in front of a large banner displayed outside the arena.
The goal of the event was simple: to offer a friendly and festive moment to wish the skaters good luck before their departure for the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics in Italy.
The initiative was a resounding success. Approximately fifty people braved the winter temperatures to encourage Marjorie Lajoie in a joyful atmosphere.
The mayor of Boucherville, Jean Martel, was present, as were five city councillors. Members of the Boucherville Figure Skating Club's board of directors, several club skaters, and a representative from Patinage Rive-Sud also attended the gathering.

Great little video of Zachary reacting to old photos

Here's the auto-translation:
The team’s Zidane. I was 9 years old. That’s what the coach called me on the Saint-Lambert team. We were in blue. It’s in the blood! It’s in my family’s blood, right? In Algeria, it’s often like… when you’re three years old, you’ve already got a ball at your feet. So yeah, I really loved that. I think I was still pretty good with the ball. I really liked running. But at that time, I was also doing skating.

So here, there’s a photo from the club show. Me and my big sister Missiva. We’re seven years apart. And yeah, I love her a lot. My mom put me in skating because my sister did it. My sister was right there. She always supported me. She always defended me against people who made a bit of fun of me and all that. If there was one person who was there to put them back in their place, it was definitely my sister.

So yeah, I really started to love skating at the age of 12. That’s when I really wanted to break through in the sport. If I could say something to myself at the age of 12, it’s that life is going to give you trials, and then you have to stay strong, and you have to keep going in the direction you want to go, to train really hard and to stay strong. And then yeah, a little word of encouragement, probably.
