Glamour Puss thread: Sephora, I wish I could quit you...

I may have said this before--but I will say it again. If you have not tried layering mascara (using 2 types of mascara on your lashes)...try it! I love doing this and I do it almost every day now.

I like to start with a volumizing mascara and finish with a more defining mascara (like Cover Girl Clump Crusher.) It makes my lashes look pretty close to fake. :) I do 2 coats of the 1st mascara and 1 coat of the 2nd.

I just posted this in the Royalty thread, but copying here - it's a lovely 1952 photo of the Queen, and one thing I love about it is the timeless, exquisite makeup, including the refreshingly natural brow.
The Queen has always been lovely. Don't even get me started on the current brow trend. Drawing huge heavy dark severely angled monstrosities above one's eyes, is not a way to define one's eyes.

We had to go to the mall today for DH’s glasses. Sephora got me, but only $50 worth. I got another Vice lipstick, this time creamy Violate. They still don’t have an exact match for Backtalk, but Violate’s closest. (Rapture was just a touch too red for me.)

And the never ending search for a true olive green eyeshadow may be over. The Huda Beauty Emerald Obsessions has 4 greens that I can blend with brown or gold to get the color I needed. If you have glasz/hazel eyes, it seems worth the $27.

I thought it was the violet/purple eye shadow you should wear if you have hazel eyes and you want the green to pop. I haven’t worn shadow for a long time, let alone purple but I remember the recommendation

I’m sensitive to the red dyes and can’t use purple and many of the peachier nudes at all. I find that an olive green brings out the blue and the gold in my eyes, then I rock the purple framed glasses to complete the look.

I had a friend that was a makeup artist that once did me up and she used green eyeshadow on me. I have blue eyes and I thought that was really weird, but it looked surprisingly natural and somehow made my blue eyes pop. I haven’t worn it since but sometimes I think I should try it again.

Contrast is key. I have green eyes and purple liner and shadows really makes them pop. I only use it for dressup these days.....

I have blue/green eyes, sort of an aqua color and I always wear plums, purples, and pinks. I also use tons of black eyeliner and mascara.

At this stage of life for me makeup in general is only for dress up. Which makes me a bit sad, but it just doesn’t seem worth the effort when it’s mostly the dogs and toddler I interact with on a daily basis.

I wish I could still use purple. I may give it one more try as I seem less prone to eye infections as I was 10 years ago. In the meantime, I’m ok with the gold to olive gradation and some Kat Von D liner.

I can`t wear purple either. Or reds or bright pink.

Totally allergic.....and purple is always recommended as a best color for brown eyes, like I have.

However, yesterday I did use a sample of Laura Mercier`s cavier eye pencil in Amethyst.

It was a plummy brown.

Not sure if I like the color or not....kind of looked like the color of a bruise.

But I wasn`t allergic to it. So there`s that....

Has anyone used any Beauty Counter products yet (or familiar with them)? A friend started selling it in the fall and I like it thus far (yes, another MLM company, but the quality seems pretty good and I like its "clean" approach to skincare). I have the Romantic eye palette and some of the lipsticks. The one sheer lipstick I had was a little too sheer (or maybe it was the same shade as my lips and you really couldn't see it and it seemed to be too much money for essentially a Chapstick!).

My cousin sells it. I’ve only tried what she’s given me which is mostly baby stuff and no makeup. I’m not sure if it’s the company or just her but they do a lot of fear mongering and a lot of the things she spouts as fact (that seems to come from the company) is blatantly untrue. That combined with the MLM aspect turns me way off. Nothing I’ve had from them has really impressed me anyway especially at that price point.

What happened to this thread? :)

Hair care question: I keep getting ads for Prose custom shampoos. Have anyone used it? Is it worth it? I also see Function of Beauty custom shampoo, same question.

In general I've considered changing to a non-sulfate shampoo. I have thin and fine hair, so I don't think I can go without shampoo at all (curly girl method) - though I did get a sample on Unwash Cleansing Conditioner and I liked it better than I thought.

Do you have a favorite non-sulfate shampoo?
?

I tried Prose (I have a very bad habit of buying things because I see them on FB) and for me, it was not worth it.
My hair is dry, fine, and tends to frizz in humid weather, neither the shampoo nor the conditioner helped with any of this. I actually thought my hair seemed dryer after using this stuff.
It smelled nice, though. :shuffle:

By "fear mongering" are you referring to how they talk about how so much gets through the US in terms of chemicals in our makeup? Yes, it is quite expensive, too! I do like their lipsticks as they are infused with peppermint oil--refreshing!

Yeah, a lot of their chemical phobia is not based in science. It's just fear-based marketing. Which to be fair, is a huge pet peeve of mine so I get twitchy when I see marketing like that.

Has anyone used a good glass nail file? Apparently they are much easier on your nails than traditional files but it seems you have to get a good quality glass file and avoid the cheapies and knock offs. It's hard to tell which is which.

I've never heard but am interested. Will check it out.

I have come across this and please please please somebody stop me: https://patrickta.com/shop

This is apparently a makeup artist to the stars who saw there weren't glow products for the body so here he is with his new line.

Can anybody recc eyeliner that would be perfect for creating 60s eye look?
Very black… matte and dry!

I am weird and use a flat, slanted brush that I wet and use a black eye shadow from MAC. I feel it gives me better control but tbh, I never really go for the extreme cat eye with wings.

Here are Sephora's top choices: https://www.sephora.com/buy/cat-eye...ieJWrhzC2sO052DmN8BoCTOQQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

IIRC, @my little pony loved the Kat Von D Tattoo liner?
My lids melt eyeshadow when mixed with water.
I had that Kat von d tattoo and it was pretty good for a modest nice thin line and cat eye, but not for the thicker line I am in for hehehe

I can do a cleopatra liner with Kat Von D. Do your lash line as usual, then another line above it to the thickness you want. Fill with little diagonal strokes, then use a q tip to fix any gaps.

If you guys like the Urban Decay liquid eyeliner, they have discontinued it. :wuzrobbed. I went on their website and ordered a couple colors, but most of them are gone. It was the only liquid liner I could do and not wind up with it all over my face.

Life is so cruel. :drama:

I only use glass files, and have for years. I find them much better. If you can find some in s nail salon you can usually determine the quality, you want a very fine grain.

I can recommend the glass files from Bliss Kiss: https://www.myblisskiss.com/
(You can also find their products on amazon). Her file is short though, so you have to find that ok (I prefer the small ones)

I also highly highly recommend her nail oil. It’s much better than any nail/cuticle cream I’ve used. So good for your nails and cuticles.

If you sign up for her emails she has sales twice a year, usually Jan and July.

I stopped at ulta this morning and picked up their glass file version since my nails really needed filing. Not sure if it will last super long but definitely much milder on the nails. My nails were shredding with traditional files and the glass file left them smooth with no snags. Thumbs up.

I will try bliss kiss too since I’m sure to lose this one at some point.

I do too. I'm hoping the Kat Von D product will work when I run our of Urban Decay. I have 5 colors which should hold on for a while.

Get your shopping lists and wallets ready!

Sephora Spring event is happening soon.

15% off for VIB Rouge and VIB and 10% off for BI.

VIB will start May 1st so VIB Rouge should be around the end of April and BI sometime in May.

Yippee! :rollin:

In other good makeup news, my DH had a business trip to Copenhagen and I made him bring me back some GOSH Forever Eye shadow sticks in my favourite shade (Light Copper.) :cheer2:

They were discontinued here in Canada and I couldn’t even find a place to order online.

While he was away, I did manage to finally find an online shop that ships to Canada. Don’t tell my husband though....lol! :shuffle:
