I was going through the television thread to find @AliasJohnDoe's post about the summer TV show premiere dates. I couldn't find that post because the thread was hijacked by Game of Thrones. Obviously a thread is needed for GOT, so here it is!

Overall while this last season definitely felt rushed, I was mostly happy with the progression and the outcome. Would I have liked to see it develop more slowly and fully? Yes, definitely.

The thing is I have been highly skeptical of Dany for a few seasons now, she has long had a brutal and ruthless streak. Sansa saw her most clearly and really was having none of it.

I re-watched the entire season in a binge and it really pulled together much better for me. I was initially pissed Cersei was reduced to long periods of standing and watching but Lena Headey is such an incredible actress she put more meaning into those scenes just by watching her face. Here was a queen who was so sure she would win and to watch the slow realization that all was lost played out so beautifully on her face.

I've been team Sansa for the throne for the past several seasons, but she was clearly all about an independent north in all she did, so her fate was the one that was most satisfactory to me. Sidebar, her shutting Edmure down with an "uncle, please sit down " was awesome


Arya too had a fantastic arc, of course she would be the one to kill the Night King, so well done that scene. I still want to know WTF was up with the horse in the last episode? Did an unhorsed Dothraki suddenly show up and reclaim it?

I just have to give a shout out to the costuming. That has always been a strong point in the show, but it really felt so organically true to the characters. Dany's last dress when she addressed her army and you saw Drogon rising up behind her was so chillingly beautiful and menacing all at once. And Sansa's black gown with the silver ring like a Maester's ring was stunning, while her coronation gown was just incredible. I loved how the House Stark sigil was cut out in the bodice of leather, giving it a lacy feel with an edge, and the weirwood leaves embroidered into the sleeves, just gorgeous.

I had been looking for a thread. Surprised there wasn't one on it's own.

I was getting together with friends to watch this each week so it was good fun. I was quite okay with the way it resolved. Not sure what else it could have done. Definitely there is opportunities for spin offs so we will need to see what happens there.

I agree about the costuming. One of my friends and I were swooning over them. Particularly Sansa's last dress. Wow.

Best moments for me:

• Arya killing Night King - didn't see it coming but boy they did it well
• Jon killing Dani - something had to happen
• Dragon flying up behind Dani before she addressed the troops - so clever
• The last scene where the knights are discussing the future - very funny

There have also been some fantastic memes flying around. The best one for me was "10 years and Cersai dies from a pile of bricks".

I think that the main character arcs make sense. From the beginning of this season I thought that if Jon Snow didn't die, he needed to be sent to the wall again. That's what made sense to me. But boy do I wish there had been better execution of the story lines. I think we needed a couple of episodes to build to Daenerys' decision to obliterate King's Landing.

And there were a couple of lines that took me completely out of the story. Arya telling Jon not to go to Daenerys because he was always going to be a threat to her and that Arya knew a killer when she saw one? Please. Daenerys just massacred King's Landing. OF COURSE SHE'S A KILLER. What a stupid, stupid line.

My favorite part of the finale was Drogon finding Daenerys' body, burning the Iron Throne and flying away. I loved that dragon. I thought the scene was very moving. And as usual, the music was really on point throughout.

The memes and the Twitter snark have been the best part of this season.

With more episodes they maybe could have made some of the storylines make sense. As it was, everything just felt rushed and storylines finished by just killing people.

I mean, the whole “a good story is what unites us” is cool and all, but how does Arya not have the best story of all?!?!? Forget about her journey and learning to be of a 1000 faces, SHE KILLED THE WHITE WALKER KING!!

And I don’t mind Dany becoming the Mad Queen, but she deserved a couple of episodes to transition to that state, and it just happened in 10 minutes.

And HOW was Sansa able to get independence for the North that easily? And why wouldn’t the rest of the kingdoms demand independence too??

And does anyone buy that Grey Worm will let Jon Snow off and just sail for a quiet life??

But I still liked it

Everything was badly written and excecuted. They forgot character's arc, probably missed the clues planted by GRRM abd botched the season. 2 Years to deliver that is a WTF moment for me.

IMO the end is about the same as what GRRM has in mind, but with him (if he ever delivers the last two books), we'll know WHY and how the characters feel. Because I was like : uh, they forgot that, they missed this without even knowing what they would tell us in the books.

Edit : and of course, Dany's army wouldn't execute either Tyrion or Jon on the spot. Sure.

There really was absolutely no justifying burning so many innocent citizens/women/kids once the city surrendered. I know what you mean and I was horrified by the actions, but it's not like she hasn't used those tactics before, although not against defenseless citizens. However, the story was always that there was a mad streak in House Targaryen. Dany's father case in point.

I think it's very hard to wrap a series up effectively and to everyone's satisfaction, especially one as long as GoT, with such complicated characters and such a packed, convoluted story line.

I understand that Dany's slaughter of the city brought the theme of madness in the family around full circle, but it still struck me as out of character. I agree with @Mr. Fan that it came out of nowhere.

One possible explanation might be that the people of the city didn't take her side in the battle, leaving her feeling that slaughter was the only option.

I was so happy to see Jon reunited with Ghost. Ghost finally gets a pat on the head!

Two minor complaints:

They should not have killed off Varis. It seemed completely wrong for him to not be with Tyrion at the end, given that their relationship and adventures were one of the core storylines.

They should not have killed off Misandei. Her and Grey Worm's love story was sweet, compelling and original. For them to sail off together to a new life in a new place would have given the series a real sense of hope for the future at the end.

The “betrayal” of Varys and the deaths of Missandei and Jorah were all catalysts leading to Dany’s breakdown. It would have made Dany’s actions even less believable if she still had that support around.

I stopped watching GOT a long time ago but couldn’t help but find out what happened in the last episode. Here are some random thoughts:

1) Disappointed Gendry wasn’t made king but BRAN?!?! Last I saw him in the books he was turned into a tree. LOL
2) Never a fan of Deanerys so have no problem with how her story ended. I kinda expected it TBH. But I thought she would die before reaching Westeros.
3) Jon with the wildings seems fitting. His time with the Wildings was probably his most happiest ever. Still unhappy they made him a Targaryen.
4) I wonder, what if Brienne turns out to be preggers with Jaime’s child, would she get maternity leave from the king’s guard? Personally I would love for this to happen.
5) Happy sailing to Arya and wonder if she would be jealous if Gendry married her sister?
6) Am I the only one who felt Bran’s desire to find Drogon creepy? I mean, should he find the creature and brought it back to Kings Landing, could you imagine the effect that will have on the survivors of the massacre?
7) So Bran can see the future. Did he know that he was going to be King? Did he also know about Kings Landing’s destruction before hand? And if so, how come he did nothing to stop it?

Yeah, he knew he’d be King (said so in the last episode), and he did know about Kings Landings destruction (was in one of his visions). Why didn’t he stop it? How could he? Besides, he’s probably resigned to the fact that future visions will happen, can’t be changed, and should be accepted.
