I am wondering how worth it it is to go to the rink with only 20 or 30 minutes to skate. In my situation, this is relative to the amount of time it takes to get to the rink, since it is 30 minutes each way. I don't have to pay at my home rink, so there is no session money being lost. I can skate more often if it seems worth it to only skate for literally only minutes at a time.

I have DEFINITELY had a streak of 30-minute skates going and, honestly, I think it helped more to have five consecutive days of that than three cumulative hours on the ice split between, like, a Wednesday and a Saturday.

I'm very much of the mindset that any ice time is good ice time--especially when it's free! Those minutes add up to progress and are only helping to keep those skating muscles working.

Do you need time on the ice to warm up, get your skates tied to your satisfaction, etc., before you can get productive practice done? In that case, 30 minutes of ice time might be significantly less practice time.

But if you're able to get on the ice and do something productive right away, then it might be worth it.

I think when I am on the ice more frequently, it makes my brain perceive it as a more natural activity. Then when I go on the ice, I can get right into practicing without having to go around a couple times to get comfortable with feeling the ice under me. As far as laces go, I do spend a lot of time getting off the ice to re-lace, which I expect to be less of a problem when my skates are broken in.

I would skate more often if I felt like it is not a waste of time to go for short times (especially when the ice time is less than the driving time).

I have sleep disorders, so some of the times that I decide to skip practice, are because I need the extra hour of sleep. That is what happened today, and I knew I would only have half an hour to skate (unfortunately, traffic was bad and someone insisted on me helping her, so I ended up with only 20 minutes).

If the ice is free, and you can go several times per week, then 30 minutes would totally be worth it.

I find that I do better with shorter sessions, going more often each week, than with a couple of long sessions. I think the 30 minute sessions would be worth it.
