Foods you can't stand

I've eaten squirrel and rabbit before. Regardless of what my mother used to tell us, they do not taste like chicken.

I assume part of my parents serving squirrel and rabbit had to do with the extreme poverty that they grew up in and an acquired taste from having it when they were younger. You ate what was available and it provided protein and was readily available to hunters

Do we have a gardening thread? If not, I would love to start one. I am in a new house (moved in April) and have always been interested in a vegetable garden but never had the chance. I love the idea if growing vegetables (I am not a fan of flowers) and then canning and pickling. Or maybe containers is the way to go, as @topaz mentioned. I remember my parents growing tomatoes as a kid one year and I have never tasted tomatoes so delicious! I want to replicate that. But I hear planning is paramount.

ETA: @topaz, who are your favorite You Tubers? Any project I start always begins there.

I think you should start a gardening thread.

I like the following folks on Youtube.

MIgardner - I love him and his videos.
Rainbow Gardens - She has lots of good information. Also, I started gardening in containers(flower pots, window boxes, balcony planters)
Calikim
Growing Your Greens
The Rusted Garden
The Wisconsin Vegetable Gardner - I learned so much from these two. They are have entry level videos and they show you how to do stuff on the cheaper side. Like saving and using yogart containers for growing seedlings.

Squirrels are my outdoor pets. I feed our squirrels. They get all the stale bread and non-salty and non-sugary cereal, and any slightly mushy apples.

I threw some stale chocolate chip cookie pieces into the yard for the squirrels one time and they started walking up to the back door waiting for more for a couple days!

Many years ago a couple of friends and I went to a 'fine' restaurant for a special treat. Had never had it, so I decided on lobster. I selected one from the tank and we were seated. After drinks, we were served and I am still to this day affected by what I saw. The thought that this creature was happily swimming in his tank with his friends until I strode in and chose him bothers me still. I felt like a murderer as I looked at him lying there beside a cup of drawn butter. I don't remember how he tasted, but I have never had nor will I ever choose another lobster to die for my culinary pleasure. No thanks!!! :wuzrobbed
I do remember that I was still hungry when I left that restaurant.

How did you know the lobster you chose was male?

I am just back from my Cuba trip. It was seafood heaven. Mahi mahi, tuna, sea bass, salmon, shrimp, lobster, and for the first time ever I actually liked scallops. :)
Cubans also do many different dishes incorporating eggs, and oh my goodness, there was the most delicious assortment of cheeses. :rollin:
But since this is a foods you can't stand thread, I will tell you, don't ever ever give me squid ink as a dipping sauce. That was rather nasty. :scream:
