Favorite cocktail?

When I'm feeling nostalgic: White Russians
Nostalgia....not so much. When my husband ordered a White Russian after dinner one night, I KNEW he was having an affair. Yep...........went through his second or 12th mid-life crisis.

Not as bad as yours - but boyfriend who was always "busy" ordered a "Tom Collins" when he had always gotten beer before. "When did you start drinking those?"..........

Maybe that should be on a "how you know he's cheating" list. - He orders a completely different drink than usual.

Wow! If you don't want to say anything more I understand but how did that particular drink give the affair away? Did Susan1 have the right idea?

Like someone earlier said, if I'm at a nicer bar/restaurant, I'll usually order something off the cocktail menu. If it makes the menu, then it's something they do well and it's going to be consistent from bartender to bartender. Here at least, drinks can be very specialized. I love lemon drop martinis, but only from a few bartenders--most of them are too sweet. If I'm ordering a LEMON drop, then I want that tartness. I should probably be ashamed that I know individual bartenders :shuffle:

From my favorite nicer bars in the city:
French 75:
Gin, lemon, simple syrup, and a splash of champagne. The classic French 75 actually uses cognac, and there are a few bars here that give you the option, but I actually think the gin is tastier, but only in this drink. I normally don't care for gin.

Kir Royale:
crème de cassis, champagne, orange peel

Sometimes if you order a Kir Royale, they'll use Chambord instead of cassis. This is technically a Hooker's Cocktail (at least in NOLA). It's a really good drink too, but if you specifically want the blackberry flavor instead of raspberry, you need to specify that you want crème de cassis.

I also like a French martini, with a splash of champagne. I like just about anything with a splash of champagne.

If you're ever in New Orleans during Christmas, go to the Sazerac in the Roosevelt. They have a Candy Cane martini that will knock your socks off. The ingredients sound like it should be a total sugarfest, but it's not.

If I'm out and about in a new bar/city OR the bar is packed, I order a vodka tonic. Hard to screw up a vodka tonic. Unless they put soda instead, but I like that too, cause you know, vodka.

My favorite cocktail is champagne with Absolut pear vodka.

Goodness that sounds good. I'm not a fan of Absolut but I may give this a try.

A few months ago, I tried a Bourbon Old Fashioned sweet and I was hooked.

I enjoy screwdrivers(Stoli orange please) and creamsicles

I have two creamsicle recipes they are as follows:
and

Well, we had been out with friends at some point. The woman ordered a White Russian. My husband went on and on about how he hated that drink and could not figure out how someone would order or ever like that sweet thing. Fast forward.....months later we were out at a local restaurant and hubby ordered a White Russia (put that together with the other behaviors he was exhibiting....not taking the kids to school any more.....just stuff) and voila! Affair with the 21 year old receptionist at the office. (who happened to be one year older than his oldest son...........). It was just so off the wall weird. I knew he had been drinking with someone young and sweet............and Russian (well just kidding about the sweet and Russian part).

And, yes, Susan1 is a genius.

I just remembered - Jalapeno Martini! Best ever!. My friend and I were in the French Quarter, ordering a martini and the waiter said.....how 'bout a Jalapeno Martini. He warned us it was hot. Undaunted she and I ordered away.....took one sip, and continued on with tears running down our faces! Was fabulous!!!

Vodka martini, Cosmopolitan and a restaurant in my city offers an absolutely fantastic kiwi cocktail called "Kiwi Twist" with vodka, blue curacao, kiwi stuff and more juices. Not too sweet and absolutely amazing.

Love a Mojito and a Long Island Iced Tea.

Espresso Martinis are getting more common in my area of the world and becoming a favourite too.

For those who enjoy Bloody Marys, the Tomato Pepper Martini at Wallse in New York is to die for. You have to plan for it though, as the key ingredient is tomato water - any time I can get my hands on super ripe juicy tomatoes, I make a batch as this drink is totally worth the effort.

I may have to try this.

I also like tequila shots, with salt lick and lime, the whole thing. I love the ritual.

I forgot about mojitos! That's my mom's favorite cocktail. It's a drink I only order if I've tasted someone else's first. I'll be honest--most of the time, I can't tell homemade/mix/fresh v. frozen, but I can tell whether mojiots are made from a mix or they used fresh, muddled mint. If it's a mix, I don't want it!
