Remember a few years ago a bunch of V/M ubers got on Tessa's case for not wishing Scott a happy birthday on twitter? They messaged her throughout the day and she blocked a few of them.
Or all their fanfiction-level fantasies of the secret baby? Or their reaction to learning that the two were, in fact, dating other people? Seriously the real person shipping going on there was disturbing.

Though V/M fans' superiority complex and harassment/insults to all other ice dance pairs bothers me more.

Makes you wonder where they are these days! Not everyone uses social media to wish their close pals a HB

This thread is so funny, I honestly would also cringe at a lot of what I said when I was younger and don't remember a lot of specifics about user names/drama, but I do remember that peach/twizzlestick character messaging me on AOL under some random alias (or maybe more than one), asking me for insider info, and then threatening to say that I paid a lot of money for all my info. Mind you, at that time I made it very clear on every board that I was like 15 or 16

The sekret baby blogger is still at it. I just checked today and they are wringing their hands over the fact that the oldest sekret baby is 10 and they're still locked in the basement.

The whole sekret babies thing, how the heck did that ever get started?!?

I took a break from active figure skating fandom for several years during the early '10s and I am really happy that I completely missed the whole Tessa/Scott sekret babies thing.

Twizzlestick was Peach on ezboard and the admin of PITI (Pain in the Ice). She seemed to thrive on creating drama with other boards, and eventually her own board. And then somehow ezboard imploded.
I remember that. I kind of enjoyed watching her trying to figure out who was behind the psueds beating her pretty handedly at her own game.

OMG. I know exactly who you're talking about. He ended up getting kicked out of Tara World, if I remember correctly, and then got his socks off playing "devil's advocate" on MKF, a role nobody asked him to play nor did anyone necessarily want on that forum. He also would post some really strange stuff. He was IN LOVE with Tara.

I remember me chatting with you on either MSN messenger or AIM about it and you were telling me "duh! It's Scheherezade." I myself was also a teen and was like "REALLY? WHAT'S THAT?"

Also, about Tango de Roxanne, didn't Kwan bring the wrong CD to one practice at 2004 Nats or whatever and ended up skating to Tango de Roxanne even though the choreo was TFB, and then just ended up skating to TFB at the competition?

I think you're right because although Fanyus can harass skaters' social media accounts, I think skating tribes tend to stick to themselves for the most part these days. During the Kwan/Tara and the Pasha and the other notorious wars during the late 90s-early-2000s, it was the WILD WEST. People were more anonymous, ruder, harsher, super into trolling, starting stan wars, gossiping, etc. Imagine if they had access to Kwan and Tara's social media. Good lord. There was something fun about being in the stan wars though. Maybe that's why BTS fans call themselves army because more than half the fun is fighting non-fans. At least the Kwan/Lipinski stuff, as dirty and immature as it was, didn't involve ancient rivalries and geo-politics the way the Yuna Kim v. Mao Asada wars had. Lord, some of the things those fans would bring up was nuts.

I think most of skating fandom has matured quite a bit since most of us got older. ;)

That was Adrian Chew's board, FSW, before it became F$W and people migrated to FSU changing FSU's culture a bit. He was a crazy Kwan fan who ended up going the opposite direction into an intense Kwan hater and moving his affections to Cohen.
Adrian was? Wow I had forgotten all about him. His board was the first one I was on. Then did he atart another one?

I remember this! She may have even posted part of a conversation on PITI. But she portrayed it as you coming to her.

The whole platinum medal thing, as I said earlier, was a lovely idea that went off the rails more than a bit. IIRC, barbnf was either an accountant or in public relations and was extremely hot to take over the plan AND the money, but the board moderator and owner and those putting it together understandably said no. However, Barb wouldn't take no for an answer. Then "bigmkfan" (a pseud) came into it, and for the life of me I don't remember at all what this poster said to barbnf, but it made her furious, and she was later removed from the board for just generally being difficult and creating drama after that.

The platinum medal was actually a medal coated with platinum; I wasn't wild about the medal idea, but they took in way more than they needed to pay for it and decided to also donate to, I believe, Children's Miracle Network in Michelle's honor- that was the part I actually donated to. And then the REAL fun started - WHO should present the medal to Michelle and how???? There were arguments on who should get to go with the MKF board owner to present it, and that got more than a little testy. To give you an idea of how far off the rails it went, some fans were suggesting that Jay Leno should be contacted and it should be presented to her on "The Tonight Show" (with plenty of MKF members in attendance, of course) because "Jay loves Michelle" based on a couple of his interviews with her. Yes, I'm serious - the egos involved honestly thought they had the power to set this up on a national TV show. After much discussion and disagreement and strum and drang, it turned out that board owner (whom Michelle knew personally) ended up presenting it to Michelle backstage during a COI stop without a bunch of other MKFers there. IIRC, Michelle was lovely about it but seemed to appreciate the donation WAY more than the medal.

The banning from MKF led many of us to then now defunct Pain in the Ice (PITI) board where we could gripe and post among other outcasts. barbnf kept "The Think Tank" going for years until it was really just her and one or two other posters, and she never let go of the search for "bigmkfan."

As for "bigmkfan," I have my theories on who it was (among two candidates) even though both always always denied it. Which was likely smart for their sanity and safety considering how one angry person blew up a very minor thing into damn near WWIII.
I'm afraid I was actually one of the posters at barbnf's board. After I joined MKF, I would see posts appear about barbnf still going ballistic regarding bigmkfan. If I remember correctly, there was even a link to The Think Tank, and that's how I found her board. The first thing I noticed was all these "Fairies" posting some really crazy stuff to her.

That's when I decided to post at her board. I posted because I was beginning to wonder whether those members really thought they were Fairies! barbnf began believing that those fairies were pseuds of bigmkfan. She even came up with smoking guns. Apparently, she had been studying bigmkfan's writing patterns while she was at MKF before she was banned.

The smoking guns were words that bigmkfan had misspelled. I remember one of the most predominant words misspelled was "argument". She noticed that bigmkfan used an "e' - "arguement". There were several words, but that's the only one I can remember. She also fell in love with my poetry and even dedicated a poetry forum to me. By that time, she became very demanding and critical of my poems.

It got to the point where she became obsessed with finding out who bigmkfan really was. She actually wanted people that were posting at FSW to come to her board and make their replies/posts directly to her. She was actually wanting to find our their IP addresses. That's when I could no longer take it, and I began posting at FSW. I joined the other members and began pseuding there. That's when I came up with Looney Tunes Fairy plus a few other pseuds. I could no longer take the drama of barbnf. LOL!

There was an interview with Jenna Fischer (Katie van Wandenberg in "Blades of Glory"), who played Pam Beesly in "The Office" (US version) in which she said that when she was walking down the street with her husband, she was confronted by an angry fan who accused her of cheating on "Jim."

Years ago (early 80s), I went to a Trek Con in Philly with a friend who adored the original series. Walter Koenig (Chekov) was the guest speaker, and I met him accidentally when he tapped me on the shoulder to ask for the time. At first I was startled when he didn't have a Russian accent!!! (He is actually of Russian Jewish ancestry, but born in Chicago).

During the convention, he took questions, and a fan got up and started asking him a technical question about the Enterprise. You could see him visibly frown and get his temper in check, and then he calmly explained that he was an ACTOR, and Star Trek was his JOB. He told the fan that the actors didn't get into the technical aspects of the show or memorize every episode - it was his JOB. You could see the fan looked quite deflated, but Koenig handled the situation very nicely.

This has always been one of my favorite takes on extreme fandom - from Star Trek again (however, Shatner did put in a disclaimer before he did this scene to avoid really offending anyone): https://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/trekkies/n9511

All I will offer is that, despite what I have read about Shatner's ego and alleged mistreatment of various ST cast members, his "Get a life!" outburst in the sketch resonates with me favorably more and more, both towards certain posters here and folks in the outside world. :eville:

This Fanyu here never ever watches anything from Nathan from shows. Never rewatches his competitive programs full stop. Neither do hundreds of us.
Fair enough.

I'll admit, the word "Fanyu" automatically makes me think of the crazed, obsessed, QAnon type Yuzu fans, which I'm sure make up a relatively small percentage. I have no doubt that the large majority of Yuzu uber-fans are decent, wonderful people.

There are just more of us than than any other fan groups. But most are well-behaved, are interested in the sport and respectful towards other skaters. But of course, there are a few crazy ones. There always are, in any human group. But to take them as typical representatives of the group is plainly wrong.

My experience with fans has been limited. I don't attend comps but read message boards. My only direct interaction w/ a fan board was belonging for years to the MKF way back when. While I loved MK, I also used it for gathering skating info. I did make the mistake of criticizing MK's layback spin or something and got seriously railroaded: The message was 'this is a fan forum. Go somewhere else if you want to critique' or that is the message that I came away with. Oh, I found out that MK had a ton of enemies on Tara World. Never went there.

I like reading You Tube comments on Nathan Chen and love JPN fan comments. I did notice Russian fans post generally very positively about Nathan, though. In one upload of Nathan's 19/20 GPF LP, a Russian poster noted the 'kislie litsa' (sour faces) of the 'Yapontsev' who couldn't bother to stand and applaud Nathan :)

I guess I thought Fanyus referred to the crazies and the non-crazies are just fans. :D

At the last GPF in Vancouver, one of the things that made it a great experience were all the Japanese and Canadian fans. Those people know how to fan! I would go to a competition again in Canada in a heartbeat and am thinking about someday going to something in Japan because of that experience.

That entire William Shatner episode of SNL is probably one of the best SNL episodes ever.

Bad as Fanyus can be, I would say that -- yes -- Yunabots were even worse. Many of them posted death wishes against Sotnikova after the Olympics, and this went on for years. And Mao Asada was given her share of grief. It may still be going on, I haven't checked recently.

And woe to any technical specialist who dared give Yuna an edge call or a UR call. It signified the death of figure skating!
Some fanyus posted about cutting Nathan into eight pieces, burning him deep into the ground, stabbing him, administering lethal injection on him after 2019 worlds

Thete were also tweets of killing Raf when his interview with Russian media after 2019 worlds came out, when his answers of Nathan’s programs were intentionally twisted by some translation. The hatred toward Raf was compounded by his comments about Mariah and Eun Soo incident.

I stand corrected, some Fanyus can be just as bad as the worst Yunabots. That is disturbing.

Would you mind adding “some” in front of the word “fanyus”? My bad in the first place. Don’t want to make the entire fandom Look bad. The person who tweeted those Weibo post is a fanyu herself.

The MK/Tara fan wars were pretty bad but they were entertaining. The Mao/Yuna wars as well as the Fanyus is on a whole other level that reaches past creepy and is entering psychosis. Not to mention what happened to Mariah which I believe was also the result of Yuna fans.
