It was the best of the night, I think.
It was good, no doubt about that. Surprisingly enough, I rather liked Alex Diehl's song - which I didn't expect because I am not very much into German music. Alex Diehl is a singer songwriter and his song is about staying united and working for peace at a time when Europe is under the threat of terrorism. While he was singing, one could read the lyrics of his song in French, German and English. At the end, there was the Paris peace sign. This would have been an excellent contribution not only to this ESC but to European political life in general.

Norwegian final is tonight. I haven't hear all the songs, but the ones I heard doesn't set my hopes too high:p

Thanks again to everyone for the updates!

Report from Sweden: The last Melodifestivalen heat just ended. The first song through to the final was "Youniverse" by Molly Sandén, a total ripoff of "Euphoria" with wonderful Eurovision lyrics: "It's only you/It's only you/It's only youniverse." The other finalist--with even worse lyrics--was "If I Were Sorry" by Frans, who apparently released a couple of hit singles when he was a child (the Swedish Jordy? Unfortunately I don't think so).

Of the other finalists, there are some whose appeal escapes me (Oscar Zia, Ace Wilder, and Lisa Ajax) and the rest I don't remember. Dolly Style qualified for the Second Chance round with "Roller Coaster," a song as dumb as last year's but less catchy, which is good for my sanity. In the Second Chance, I prefer "Kizunguzungu" by SaRaha, an upbeat faux-ethnic entry that reminds me of Norway's song from a few years ago, "Haba Haba."

Sorry for the scattered and bad coverage; I hope it isn't as bad as those lyrics.

ETA: According to Wikipedia, SaRaha is "a Swedish-Tanzanian singer" so she is arguably not faux-ethnic (by Eurovision standards) but I still think her song is.

UK winning song

No winner, but no disgrace either.

Yes they definitely saved the best for last. I kind of hated most of the songs, but for some reason I quite liked the first song - the country sounding one, and this last one was also not bad.

Like you say I don't think we'll be winning, this year but we might manage to scrabble a few points here and there.

Michał's song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txL8BYydmDM
His English accent gives me a headache... Well, I also expected Margaret to win, but "Cool me down" is not that cool live, I'm afraid...

Other selected songs:
Latvia (music + lyrics: Aminata Savadogu, last year's Latvian entry): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1vCG64pBZU (a strong entry, imho)
Estonia: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53-HcrqRnlE (disappointing choice, I Wear Experiment and Mick were better)
Armenia: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7m3wOGhEvE (a little bit wtf)
Moldova: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXcDKy97BHk (heard it all before)
Montenegro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNTPaTnoTuY (that's unexpected!)
Russia: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7hRZS-nLhY (he's hot! and the song is incredibly cheesy! lovin' it :p)

Come on. Did you hear her live? "Cool me down" is a perfect example of great pop song going wasted on a bad artist. She is out of tune in every live performance and has no clue about how to breathe properly. No wonder she didn't win.

Russia: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7hRZS-nLhY (he's hot! and the song is incredibly cheesy! lovin' it :p)
aww lol at my bb Sereja he didnt disappoint (2 mil views already!)! The vid is so funny with that girl's 'acting' Her model background is soo apprarent :ROFLMAO: Good thing she won't be at the actual contest. & the song IS cheesy & the chorus feels so outdated I like it! Hopefully there will be actual thunder & lightning onstage :D

Hovi Star (Israel) is thinking of changing his song to a new version of Somebody Out There, which was performed by another finalist in the Israeli HaKokhav HaBa TV reality show (similar to American Idol).
