Some FSUer friends and I have recently been chatting about some of our favorite FSU moments over the years. So, I thought it might bring some needed humor and levity (at least to me, as an escape from political horror news) to make a list. A moderator can correct me or edit/delete/move this if I'm wrong, but I think it's okay to talk about archived and/or PBP threads as long as they were never in Sekret Sources since they were always free at least during the off-season.

This Boston Worlds "Ask the Locals" thread is definitely one that has made me laugh out loud many times over the years.

"After Consideration: I have decided to cancel my Mammoth trip" is definitely one of my favorite thread titles, although of course there have been many PBP thread titles that were intentionally hilarious.

As for funniest posts, there are so many it feels impossible to choose one, but I'd love to know others' thoughts on this.

Worlds planning threads are always classic.

I’d nominate the “(Fake) London Worlds” planning thread with the baked beans discussion as one of the funnier threads.

One of my personal favourite funny posts was in the PBP of the exhibition for Torino Olympics.

Belbin and Agosto were skating the exhibition where she pulls out a letter and reads it and cries at the beginning of the dance.

A poster asked “what do you suppose is on the letter?” And another poster (don’t remember who) replied:

“Dear Tanith,

I won the gold. You didn’t.

Love, Evan”

I’m not even sure why I find that so funny. But I crack up everytime I think of it.

I literally laughed for 15 minutes at the tags in this thread. I can't decide whether problematic jewelry or reclaiming things is my favourite.

Some good thread titles are:
Quad eliminationists have won. No man will do a quad 2019-2020 on
I have returned from Europe
Thank you, FSU

I know there have been a ton of funny PBP threads. Maybe the most recent ones that come to mind are the 2019 4CC ones making fun of the drunk announcer lady. Also, if you do a search on FSU of "drunk announcer", you get eight pages of results. As far as I can tell, the first reference to an announcer being drunk (because some of them are just the two words in the same post) is November 2007 at Cup of China. So apparently it's not just the US that has a drunk announcer. And I think the first time someone asked about the specific American female announcer being drink was at 2009 Worlds.

Was the butterfly ring an engagement ring that wasn't solidly constructed enough to stand up to that kind of daily wear (i.e. a fun ring that wasn't supposed to be used as an engagement ring) but the guy insisted on it because he thought it was "special" or am I getting confused with something from the reddit: relationships forum (which I don't read read but I have followed quite a few links to from other sources :))?

At another fansite about basketball (along with their own off the beaten path and all things political) there is the "Hall of Fame" where funny, unintentionally hilarious and threads that went sideways are featured. I'd love to see this here. For my own personal preference I'd love to see the best of ESTA.

I believe that you are right about the butterfly ring story. IIRC the would-be fiancee also sounded like a bit of a player, so who knows, he may have done the same thing to other women who then posted on Reddit

There are so many funny threads, it is difficult to choose.

But here are two of my favorites:

Boxxy's handbag bidding at $999,999.99
the forum icons

As for funniest posts, there are so many it feels impossible to choose one, but I'd love to know others' thoughts on this.
This one is easy. :)
Previously, on Dangers of a Trump Presidency--Part 6:

Reince Priebus was fired; Ret. Gen. Kelly is in.

Scaramucci has a foul mouth and his wife has filed for divorce.

Trump is still Trump.
THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT FIGURE SKATING NOT POLITICS!!!!! IT'S CALLED FIGURE SKATING UNIVERSE FOR A REASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sort of. The ring wasn't meant to be an engagement ring but the jeweler convinced the fiance it would work as one. And the OP didn't know how to tell him she didn't like the ring because he was so proud he'd gotten something special and meaningful and she didn't want to hurt his feelings. Then the ring broke (as expected) and she was able to get one she liked that would also last. I don't remember if she told him how she felt before it broke or not.

The last I heard, they got married and were married at least 2 years later but then I lost track...

Lord Cirque's existential crises and the butterfly ring immediately came to mind.

I also enjoyed the brief discussion about Susan 1's haunted microwave.

Anything posted by ESTA :cheer2:

Satirical stories written by someone whose name I can't remember. It goes back to the beginning of the 2000s as there was stuff about "Alexei who is not Urmanov", and Sasha Cohen and her Nemesis too, it was hilarious.

To me Lord Cirque's inanities weren't funny at all. They'd rather belong to the "most aggravating moments" on FSU

I'm afraid I missed the whole butterfly ring thing, shame on me.

I love that idea of the Hall of Fame.

Once upon a time, I thought the ESTA posts were funny (especially the "article" about Oksana involving setting fires and prostitution) but they eventually got a little tiresome, at least for me.

Another post I just remembered being hilarious was someone's PBP about Leonova's pirate SP. I'll try to find it and link to it later today.

ETA: Here's the Leonova PBP.

Are the satiric stories Smeeta Smitten or something like that? I've heard that name referenced but I joined FSU a while after those were posted. Also, I don't understand satire and I don't think it's funny.

I remember that very well. :kickass: Has it really been over 13 years? :yikes:Wait, didn't Evan win in Vancouver?

Also remember this, it's definitely one of the best.

There has been so much good stuff over the years. The lesser gays from the title is definitely a legend. :p I'm tempted to go digging through the archives and walk down a memory lane. :drama:

No, not at all. I think it's even older than this, like mid 2000s.

I've looked for the original Lesser Gay thread. Can't find it.

I was having the same problem and trying to figure out the origin...I believe this is it:

I can't find the original reference (maybe the post was deleted?) - the first post I see that uses the term is the post midway down the page: "What in the H#LL is a lesser gay man?" (posted by you :))

ETA - never mind, I just had to look at little harder...this is the post with the original use of it:

I remember the thread but I had forgotten that I had posted in it LOL.

Also, the Tanith/Evan post reminds me of another one (might actually have been from the same event, the Vancouver 2010 gala), where DomShabs were skating to their exhibition number in sunglasses looking kinda blind and someone posted "it's a tribute to ice dance judges".

Edit: HA, found it! It was actually the gala thread from 2009 Worlds. Some good stuff in here. Also makes me wonder about what happened to so many posters!

The Euros PBP threads from that era are some of my favorites. I remember Poths literally just posting “Domnina should do porn!” And I almost pissed myself laughing.

Erin, thanks for finding it. Really that whole thread is golden.

I forgot a lot about that thread. I do feel for the original poster, as while some of the comments were quite helpful and some necessary tough love, others seemed unnecessarily harsh.

It did seem like it was going on and on and at some point, I was like, why is this thread still going. But I'm glad I soldiered on and kept reading, because it's solid gold on the third last page of the thread when magnolia first mistakes aftershocks for a "lesser gay" man married to a woman and then changes the assumption that aftershocks is an out gay man and therefore a "greater gay" I'm kind of impressed with aftershocks for never correcting magnolia.

That Leonova post is absolutely incredible. I also like that you can't be sure whether it is sincerely excited about the program or sarcastic until the last sentence. I mean, it's FSU, you never know.
