Edited: Roseanne reboot - BOOTED

Becky's husband MARK died. They've talked about how Johnny Galecki is still playing Darlene's husband in promos-- they talked about the divorce. I don't think we need to wait to see what happens there.

I can't believe anyone who watched the same show I did thought it was in support of Trump.

I haven't watched the show, but I've read the comments here with some interest. I didn't see this posted (apologies if it has been), but from an interview with Lecy Goranson:

“One thing about all the characters on the show is that we really all do have arcs. No one stays in the same place, just like in life.”

Roseanne’s character arc will definitely will be one to watch this season.

“You kind of see her deal with some of the issues that maybe you would think a Trump supporter would have a stance on. But then she transforms,” Goranson said. “I really think that it’s well handled … I would just encourage anyone who, when they hear ‘Roseanne, Trump supporter,’ that it’s really not propaganda. It’s not heavy on that. It’s not what the show’s about.”

Thought this would be a fun video to share. Someone just uploaded a Roseanne interview with Michelle Kwan from back in 1999 when Roseanne had that talk show:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09M6-e3ih5A

She visited Kwan on the set of one of her Disney on Ice tv specials from 1998-1999 and at first Roseanne was sort of annoying with her interruptions but I had to admit it ended up being a really great interview. Her interview is right at the beginning of the video.

I was bored and watched Episode 3 this AM, despite misgivings.

I found the timing odd that the main plot line was the misbehavior of Darlene's daughter, Harris and Roseanne's mini-monologue that children need to be spanked. The first thing that occurred to me was the explosion of memes, gifs and comments on SM by the Right re discipline of children (memes and gifs showing kids getting spanked) in the wake of the Parkland student protests. Uncomfortably close to the show is the fact that Roseanne Barr herself posted the pic of Hogg w/ an upraised fist that has been circulated everywhere and called it a Nazi salute (then she deleted it).

I've only watched snippets and then cast interviews on shows like The Talk. I never understood the charm of the original series or found it ground breaking as people say it was. What I've seen of the current "reboot" makes me uncomfortable. Maybe that's the intent - make people uncomfortable. It was with "All in the Family" "The Jeffersons", etc.
Laurie Metcalfe is way too talented to be in this role.

So David returned for Galecki's one episode stint this week. Thoughts?

I thought he looked like crap, but I remembered that back in the day he was always disheveled, and I thought he and Gilbert did a great job of recreating the rapport they had, with a little Leslie Winkle thrown in ;) His scene with Roseanne was also on point.

I'm also thinking that the nation's opioid crisis (which is also a major issue in Canada) is going to be a big part of the second half of the season.

I think a lot of the cast has changed. He has aged and gained weight, but then again dont a lot of people?

I dont watch Big Bang so I hadn't seen him in a long time, but yes he has changed.

I thought Estelle Parsons as Grandma was underutilized in the episode.

I liked his scene with Roseanne too.

Cant wait for Nancy to be on in the last episode. I hope Leon will be on some day.

Will they address the son of Jackie, Andy? I know they already addressed Jerry, but are they playing Jackie as if she was never married and never had Andy? If they are ignoring season 9 then I guess that never happened???

Next week is repeats, but the week after that the new episode is Bev centered, so she'll have a bigger role in that episode. What's funny is everyone else looks 20+ years older except Bev! She still looks like same! And the woman is 90 years old! She looks damn good for 90. She's more spry than I am!

Still no mention of Andy. But she had Andy and got married to Fred before the "we won the lottery" episode. It was like Season 6 (94ish). In the last episode with the dog, there was mention of Jackie keeping the dog Becky gave back at "her house", so I guess that is Jackie's house we know from the show. They could at least mention something. "Andy says hi" would suffice. He's like 24 so just drop a line like "he's working in Pittsburgh" or something, just to acknowledge his existence.

I thought the same thing about Estelle when she was on Grace and Frankie. She looks great!

I enjoyed his appearance and thought he looked like David would have looked at this age.

Wow - about ABC making this decision so fast. But this tweet sums up how I felt about Roseanne’s comments this weekend.

I do feel bad about the other cast members - and particularly the crew - who will probably have a harder time finding new work, but I’m not sure how that part of TV jobs work.

On one hand, I do feel bad, especially the crew who are responsible for the scene set up and all of that as they are just working people who need a job on any set. On the other hand, the creatives and other cast members knew who Roseanne was when they decided to do this show. She had a history of tweets like that so what did they expect? That they could control her? This is the real Roseanne.

I echo "what did they expect". They all, ABC included, knew what they were getting with her. Maybe 45 will give her the press secretary job. ha ha (not)

edited for misc. - one of the comments on the yahoo article says maybe fox will pick it up. geez.

And, I keep seeing clips with a little African American girl in them. Is she supposed to be the granddaughter? How does real and/or t.v. Roseanne feel about that?

Yeah, her fellow cast members must have known when they signed back on that she was an asshole.

Bravo on the thread title change. :40beers:

The same people on my Facebook feed gleeful that the NFL was sticking it to the protesting players are now outraged that Roseanne's free speech has consequences. :wall:

That’s because too many in our culture are basing their views on tribes and not values. SIGH!

With exception for direct calls for violence, I am pretty much a freedom of speech and freedom of association absolutist. Roseanne and the NFL players have the right from the government to say/express pretty much whatever they want. ABC and the NFL have the right from the government to what they want to associate with. This shouldn’t be hard to agree with.

I am glad that the show is cancelled. I never really cared for it when it was first on, and for what I saw recently the show was horrible. I guess I just don't like those nasty sarcastic remarks that are supposed to be funny.

From what I have read on Facebook and Yahoo, most people think that if Roseanne got cancelled then ABC needs to cancel The View because that show is racist. I may be missing something, but I have never seen or heard a racist comment on that show. Can it be extreme at times? Yes, especially with Joy Behar, but I don't think it's racist. I just think people are upset because the show doesn't cater to their political ideology.

Shooting your career in the foot is not the best course of action.:slinkaway I never liked Roseanne's humor, for one thing, I found her voice too grating on the ears. And her comment about Valerie Jarrett cannot be dismissed as a poor choice of words (like the ESPN commentator who used the word 'Guerrilla' to describe Venus William's approach, and got mistook for saying 'Gorilla'). There was a white teacher in my school who some students nicknamed 'Monkey Mug', because it was an accurate description of his physiognomy. How does Ms. Jarrett come anywhere close to that, any more than Roseanne herself? Even if it were true, the 'Ape' reference wasn't just insensitive, it was Brain Dead!

Republicans are also shooting themselves in the foot if they try to defend her. She is a long standing headcase! Have they forgotten her comments prior to the 2012 election? Here's a refresher: http://www.foxnews.com/entertainmen...s-should-be-sent-to-reeducation-camps-or.html

I have now vowed to give every new ABC show a chance. I won't wait for the fall, so I now have something called Splitting Up Together on my series recordings list. Oh, who knew Lindsay Price is on that show? I will keep watching!

I felt hot and cold about the original series, Roseanne, it was just okay for me (with some really good moments at times). I was usually working when the new version came on, but saw it once and thought it was pretty good.

Two or three years ago I was invited by some friends to see Roseanne Barr do stand-up in San Francisco. I went a bit reluctantly, but was pleasantly surprised... she was hilarious without being offensive.

Sad to see she's fallen so low with her recent behavior.

It wouldn't be hard to agree with if the only issue was free speech. But other issues come into play and that's why not every one who thinks one way about the NFL and another about Roseanne is a hypocrite.

Though some of the comments on that tweet were very  Apparently, saying (paraphrase) that was predictable, what was ABC thinking? is the same as defending their decision and knocking Roseanne. Who knew?
