Earl Hamner, Jr.; Creator of "The Waltons" and More, Dies

My mother grew up in a similar circumstance/community in Kentucky, during the same period.
She didn't find the show "cheesy" or far-fetched at all!

I didn't think it was cheesey either, and my childhood did not mirror those circumstances at all! I thought it was incredibly successful at being "wholesome" without being saccharine, family entertainment in the truest sense. What a gift he gave us.

92. He had a good long life. RIP

My only complaint about The Waltons was when they added a new actor to play John Boy after Richard Thomas departed. They could have ended it a little sooner or at least relocated John Boy or sent him on a trip elsewhere like Olivia Walton.

I remember a lot of good actors (for example Sissy Spacek. John Ritter, Bruce Davison. Eric Stoltz, Jennifer Jason Leigh) were guest actors on The Waltons at the beginning of their careers.

Do any of the streaming services carry The Waltons? It's been on a couple of cable channels in the past, but I just did a search and the only one carrying it now is BookTV, and I don't get that channel.
