Well, I'm coming from Chicago, so I've got this. Still, the weekend forecast looks pretty chilly (though not too snowy.)

Not coming to Detroit, but live two hours east, so our weather is basically the same.
For those coming from warmer climates, if you will be outside for longer than 10/15 minutes or so, - besides the actual temperature, its the wind chill and the amount of moisture in the air that will make it feel MUCH COLDER.
Layers, hats, mitts, scarves, thick socks, boots, are needed. Consider a big versatile knit or fleece shawl that can be put around your shoulders or over your lap and legs. You can always un-layer yourself in the arena if needed.

I am in Minnesota and we often send our weather in the direction of Detroit. A few days ago it was in the 30s and very pleasant for January. A cold front came through last night (we were warned!) and right now it is 5F outside at 10:45 a.m. Bright and sunny and COLD.

The point is, that the weather is very changeable and I would expect this.

Layering is key, because even when it's 10 degrees outside (and rinkside will probably be chilly) some other indoor spaces are actually overly warm, and if you're wearing a thick sweater you'll want to take it off... so be sure to have something cute under it. :)

Well, skating fans should know that everything they wear must be cute! (or have sparkles)

I still have no idea what to wear in this weather! I have one coat that could potentially work. I think I may need something heavier. It's this jacket which I got in Boston for Worlds when it started snowing and I freaked about having no appropriate clothes  Will I freeze? I have layering shirts and nice sweaters so I was planning on that, plus the jacket, leggings under jeans, and I got some boots. I need gloves and a hat. My skating gloves probably won't cut it. I don't even know. HELP ME, I'm from LA, I don't know anything about weather under 70F which to me is cold
How far is your hotel? I am staying one mile away at the Greektown Casino and just plan to Uber/Lyft a lot. I will walk if the windchill isn't too bad. My advice....layer, layer, layer. Make sure to bring warm scarf, hat, coat and waterproof boots or work shoes. From NYC but live near Tampa now, so next week will be shock to my system!

Yes, and if someone is coming in earlier than that, this Saturday there’s a major snowstorm forecast (well 1-6” so we shall see), with Sunday-Monday being very cold. High in the teens.

Hello all,
Very long time since I've been here. Is anyone staying at the Holiday Inn and Suites in Dearborn? I have a ride to the arena for $15 for me, or she will take 5-6 people for $20 total. This is going to be very expensive for me so trying to cut corners any way I can.

For someone in the area, please. We are hoping to take Lyft or Uber from the airport to our air bnb in Windsor, Canada. Are we going to have a problem? Is there are better way?

Are you flying to Detroit or Windsor? If you are flying to Detroit, I think you'd have to hope that your Uber or Lyft driver is carrying their passport, which may not be likely.

Southerner here, not looking forward to 20 degree weather. I went looking for boots today just for my trip to Detroit, but there were none in my size. I was thinking of walking the half mile between Aloft and the arena, but the bus/people mover are looking like better options now.

We are flying to Detroit. However, when we request our Uber, we will be putting in the Windsor address. Wouldn't that weed out those who are not able to go there?

I rarely wear boots. Only if the snow is real deep and the sidewalks are not clear. Just look for thermal socks and wear running shoes

Late to this, but @Lanie That quilted coat might work inside a wind proof layer. I own a winter raincoat that’s excellent at blocking wind and is comfortable down to about 10F if I wear a down sweater underneath. It’s this one

If you don’t have anything that would fit over, a quick trip to Uniqlo might work. Their puffers are still in stores and you wouldn’t need to spend more than $100. They pack really small.

I hate to pile on with more bad news, but I used the PeopleMover the last time Nationals was in Detroit. and the stations are open-air. I don't remember the frequency of the trains, but I'd guess that especially in the evening, they might not run terribly often. It will be cold and windy on those platforms. I think there's a roof, however.

Depends on your station. Some of them are outside and some inside.

The Qline that goes to the arena is supposed to have heated stations

I just purchased some Skechers "Rolton-Elero" work boots on Amazon Prime for $37.95. They look like high top sneakers but are waterproof. Skechers are the only shoes that I find comfortable and am willing to purchase online.

Last minute trip to Nationals....
So Friday afternoon I found out I had to be in Ann Arbor on Monday 1/28. Since that's INCREDIBLY to Detroit I started working.
Flight up Friday afternoon - Check
Hotels - Check (That was the hard part, Finally got the Westin using my Marriott points, hotels were INCREDIBLY costly!)
Tickets- Mostly . Have Friday night, Saturday afternoon and night, Sunday afternoon. Will buy Saturday morning at gate.

Clothing- Well I live in the south, I am just going to freeze. :)

still have to figure out how to get from airport to hotel and hotel to arena. (Do Uber/Lyft pick up at DTW?)

Everyone from out of town make sure you have mittens, hat and scarf. I live here and it’s extremely cold and if your walking outside even a block wear a hat. Looks like no more snow this week.

Will there be snow for me to play in? This California gal wants snow!

@Carolla5501, I've used Uber before from airports, you should be good! I plan on doing that when I get into DTW as I can't find a ride otherwise. I get in Wednesday around 7.

Sadly some airports still ban rideshare services. But I just checked DTW isn’t one that bans.
