Not gonna lie, I was hoping L/Q would include an I Wanna be Your Dog section. Gotta give poor Ye something to do!

LimQuan - the concept is greater than the program itself. The rock sections at the start & end work better than the middle section.

Lim/Quan - I don’t love Cruella for seniors. A very “first time out” performance and it felt like they never really got going so I’m interested to see what this looks like as the season progresses, but so far these don’t seem quite up to last season’s programmes.

Mrazeks - can someone explain to me why, with the clear intent for the upper hapves of their costumes to match, her sleeves end in full Flores and his do not? It's distracting.

Okay, they just took board-ography to a whole 'nother level. FearGib haterz should really hate this from Katerina, lol.

Browns - still trying to recapture the glory that was "Nothing Else Matters". This is a better program than last season, but that's a low bar since I really hated their program last season. The music for this just kind of goes nowhere, though, and doesn't build to a satisfying conclusion for the program.

Taschlers - not as moved this time as I was a couple weeks ago at Nebelhorn, but it's still a good program for them.

FabAyer - sooooooo... whoever in Montreal is passing around that CD with this cover of "You're Don't Own Me" that LaurEth have used much more effectively in pairs (that lift to the line "Don't out me on display" never failed to crack me up)... they need to be shot because giving it to IAM who picked it out for this team was just... A struggle for me to remain awake.

FYI - I've recorded the last two groups, plus ReiMaj and will upload them later to my Rumble account. I need a bit of sleep while the early groups of women at JGP Slovenia do their thing in the FS.

FD thoughts

Bekker/Hernandez

James Bond theme, effective use of music, disaster on dance spin, she has great body control—limber, but not loose, well-timed sliding moves

Dupayage/Nabais

Interesting angle on her position in stationary lift, nice speed and crisp movement; I know France has this weird proclivity for sabotaging its own teams, but they need to get behind this team—they’ve got a good dance foundation and a unique POV and deserve to go far

Flores/Desyatov

Opening sets a dark, troubled mood, nice dance spin, transitions into smiles and happy waltz-like movement, nice edge quality in steps, rather easy choreo lift followed by tremendous balancing during choreo slide! Wonderful to hear a new piece of music, fantastic program!

Lim/Quan

Cruella de Ville. good speed into twizzles, but may have lost a level, she is such a natural at performing and he doesn’t completely fade in her shadow, energetic program

Mrazkova/Mrazek

After the last two new-music programs, this feels very conventional, great speed, good synchronization in twizzles, she does a supported handstand on the boards—just no to all this board dancing in general, but actual acrobatics is a bridge too far :soapbox:

Brown/Brown

Opening mini-lifts not particularly effective, good unison throughout, Good sliding moves, I think they’ve removed some of the repetitive use of “teenage wasteland” lyrics that used to be sung over and over and over in the program, sounded like a new/different piece of music at end (which was an excellent change [ETA: apparently, this was wishful thinking, see Wyliefan’s post)] think they need a bigger highlight move/choreo to finish the program, well skated

Taschlerova/Taschler

Great speed, impressive ability to finish their moves while maintaining that speed, good emotional expression, this program should be great vehicle for them this season

Fabbri/Ayer

Smooth skating, excellent edges through one foot steps, would like to see more emotional tension between the partners since they’re skating to “You don’t own me”

Taschlers win! All is right in my world again.

Watched the FD on replay and that was enjoyable. By far Flor/Des had the best choreo, what an expressive performer she is! I note they beat both the Koreans and young Czechs in the FD, they really are on their way up.

Lim/Quan leaning into her own expressiveness as a villainess, well-done. The French Frenched and were interesting all the way through. Neither Czech team’s FDs wowed me as dances but their technical abilities can’t be denied. F/A, another generic Canadian team, I don’t get them.

I wish I liked the Browns more. They’re quite good but I was planning a dinner guest menu halfway through.

Thank you, @Sylvia. I was hoping to be able to watch the RDs this morning and was disappointed to see the Day 2 video had disappeared.

This was a better mix of RD music choices than I have seen previously this season. Gives me hope:).

About the Browns. Choosing James Brown--as I've previously mentioned about Travolta, MJ, Abdul--is ambitious. There's some potential in this choreography, and the Browns are blessed with all those years of skating together regarding unison; but they are going to have to work to really bring this program to the level of cleanliness and pow! for where it needs to be.

[discussing Canadian dance] Laj/Lag will hold down the fort in seniors for some time, Les Gacs are also doing well, and Fabbri/Ayer for whatever reason are getting boosted up the ranks. (Not that I don't like them; they just seem to have suddenly become the beneficiaries of the IAM "Your turn to get a boost!" M.O.)
They may be getting a boost as Canada’s new #4 or an IAM boost, however, they do have the skills to deserve a push. They’re like any number of good American teams, e.g., Bratti/Somerville, who quietly wait in the wings until it’s their turn.

And compared to their Canadian counterparts the Les Gacs, Fabbri/Ayer are the better skaters. Les Gacs are better performers, though, so I think their rise stops as first back-ups, domestically, anyway.

No, I don't think they have. I just watched them and I heard as many wastelands as ever. I wish they would remove some. It's a powerful piece of music and it suits them, but the repetition grates.

Yeah, I definitely noticed it today, so I'm not yet acclimated - and probably won't become acclimated since they're not one of my fave teams among the mid-tier US teams. I've said this before and I'll say it again, my allegiance to any of those teams depends solely upon the material they put out every season, lol.
