Deanna Stellato-Dudek injured pre-Olympics - news & updates

I think her ski or arm got caught on a pole (not sure if they are called poles) and that was what caused her crash. However, she likely aggravated her existing injury during the fall?

My concern re Deanna is of course her health but also if she gets to Milan and realizes she cannot compete thus eliminating the possibility of a replacement, I would guess the decision was not made lightly though and I hope they do well!!

According to this article https://www.ctvnews.ca/sports/artic...k-deschamps-out-of-figure-skating-team-event/ the deadline to withdraw from the pairs event is Feb 13, just before the short program draw. So there's still a small window of time to appoint the alternates, if necessary.

The saddest scenario would be for Deanna and Max to compete in the short program and then not be able to compete in the long, which would be awful for them and for the alternates :(

Racing 75+ mph down an icy mountain slope with a recent ACL injury was only begging for trouble imo. :shuffle:
Racing 75+ mph down an icy mountain slope with an intact ACL is begging for trouble, IMO. This is a very dangerous sport and LV has been injured so many times. She skis very aggressively and cut it too close to the gate, catching her arm. Another American skiier also was aggressive, coming too close to that same gate, and ended up out of the race, though fortunately not injured. They take risks for speed. I think they're all a bit nuts!

Pairs itself is a dangerous sport. If the medical experts think it's safe for Deanna to travel and to skate, then I'm happy she gets her Olympic moment. I don't know how much the injury affected their preparation and what impact it will have on their performance, but at least they get to compete.

As the article stated, Deanna was assessed by both the Skate Canada medical personnel and the Team Canada medical personnel. I'm sure the decision was not taken lightly.
I expect there will be medical checks again once she arrives after the long flight.
I wish them both all the best.

I agree, but I'm also thinking that Deanna has been intently focused on this goal for years, and I'm hoping that will not override her judgement of the situation.

I don't think this would be such a bad scenario. They would still get to fulfill their lifelong dream of competing at the Olympics, and the world would still know her amazing and inspirational path.

If I were Deanna, which I'm obviously not, I would be willing to risk my health, up to a point, to compete in the short program. But then I would play it safe in terms of the decision to compete in the long program.

I read that she had a neck injury too. That would also take longer than 24 hours to heal.
I think we all need to stop posting I read and I heard unless it’s coming from a reliable sourc
And that would be the skaters themselves.

I’m sorry, but there’s been so many rumors and stories made up about this it’s a miracle the woman can even walk.

I think we also need to quit using our great expertise is diagnosis of major illnesses and injuries based on absolutely no information to assume that she’s not doing the best thing for health. She’s a grown woman. we could all quit telling her that we don’t think this is a good idea because we have absolutely no information and therefore are experts.

Well when I read it, it was words from an interview from her own mouth.

I just can’t find it right now. Sorry!

I also read she was having treatment for a neck injury and I have no idea where I read it but it I don’t remember it looking obviously fake or AI. I can’t find it by googling so I think it might have been edited or taken down.

Phew….glad I’m not losing my mind. Haha.

I also read something about a neck injury/muscles that she couldn't turn her head. But there are a lot of things going around and the only thing I trust at this point is Devin Heroux stating she hit her head but they wouldn't confirm whether it was or wasn't concussion related.

And the only thing I would trust as a direct quote from Deanna is the statement that was put out thanking people for reaching out and asking the media to give them space so they can focus on competition.

I am sure we will all need more details once it is all over. I can see how distracting it could be for them to have all the chatter and questions around it before they compete. They need to get in competition mode and not be thinking about whatever exactly happened a week ago friday.
