I think the couple of statements that got to me are actually ones I hear/read a lot about parents who have to work to put food on the table or shelter from the elements.

The Royals do not have to work and can make their children are a priority. And they need to be teaching their children how to be in society and not be like other unnamed royals (I assume Andrew?)

I read this about those who are privileged. Then I hear/read comments about those not privileged "where are the parents? Why aren't the parents teaching their children to behave or act in society? Why are the children running around after dark? Etc, etc etc."

MOST parents would love to be home with their children. MOST parents in the US would love more than 4-12 weeks of leave after having children.

I think the point was simply that, if they had the choice between ruling while their kids are young and ruling when their kids are grown, William and Kate would probably prefer the latter.

I got up at 6 am EST to watch. My mother was born in Scotland and 3 of my 4 grandparents were born in Scotland or Ireland so I like to honor the heritage by watching royal weddings and now the Coronation. Historic moment full of interesting relics and traditions.

I agree, based on what I have read. Elizabeth was pushed into the role of monarch with both Charles and Anne so young much of their early parenting was seen to by their father - Philip. He is described as playing roughhouse with the children, taking them fishing and playing silly games. Apparently, Anne loved it all but the less athletic, retiring Charles - not so much. Following the birth of Andrew and Edward the Queen was more comfortable in her role as sovereign and she took 18 months off to enjoy her babies. Interesting that Prince George is now 9 and he attends a school that does provide a boarding option but so far George attends as a day student.

Yes, the Middletons have a huge influence on Kate and William, and apparently are primary caregivers for the children when W&K are away. They provided exactly the kind of loving, stable, supportive family life William craved, and he has made sure they are kept close and involved (they were at the coronation, sitting in the back row of the family section). This has been rumoured to cause friction with Charles in the past, he complained he didn’t get to see the children as frequently as Carole and Michael (a common grandparent’s lament!), but it has been non-negotiable for William from the beginning.

It's not the fault of King Charles that the US has deplorable maternity leave- among the worst in the world. In the UK you get 36 weeks or so, and it can be up to a year. If most of the US wants better benefits for parents they should elect governments to bring this about.

I just have to share this video I've just seen, where Princess Anne gives a hilarious account of her attempted kidnapping from her car in the 1970s. No professional comedian could be any funnier!

To give context, the kidnapper was armed and before speaking to Anne he had shot her protection officer, her driver and a journalist who had tried to intervene. (They all recovered.) Which makes Anne's courage and coolness in managing to escape all the more incredible. Not to mention her athleticism!

Elizabeth is by far the most popular of course.

I'm sure they don't include little Prince Louis in the questionnaires.

I'm a Gen X'er and Anne is my favorite too. I wish she were prime minister in the UK or some European country.

BTW on the right there are links to rankings for politicians and you can see that the royal family is doing really well compared to all of them. Surely because the royal family makes no decisions affecting peoples' lives and in most cases expresses no political opinions.

Canada’s a year too. I have no idea how mom’s do it in the U.S. it’s too soon to go back to work.

My job has actually a fairly generous leave for parents- men and women and even if you adopt..

But it’s not nearly as nice as a year.
