Coaching Change Thread

I wish Green/Parson had changed coaches in the off season. They are not improving under Charlie and Tanith. They were more interesting under their old coaches (Kiliakov and Novak).
I remember just one season of interesting programs during the time they trained with their old coaches, but I have liked all four FDs, including the Gershwin one (it was "old fashioned" and conventional, but very well choreographed and musical), and the last two RDs (the first two were not bad either) under Belbin and White. But I agree that they haven't improved much (if at all) technically.

I'm guessing it's probably related to the Latvian Fed's funding issues.
That was my first thought as well, but at the same time, wouldn't they have made a big effort for him and figured something out, given he's been with them for such a long time?
If it is another fallout from the fed's behavior, I really feel for Deniss, who needs to deal with this in an Olympic season.

That's probably the last coaching change I would have expected.
After the problems he had with funding at the beginning of this season (The Latvian Skating Association failed to pay out the funding in time) he said he was rethinking many things, disillusioned, changed etc., so perhaps it's not so surprising. Probably he felt like it was a kind of a turning point and he needed something new and different for the last stretch of his competitive skating career. Either that or the financial and other problems just continued as was mentioned above.

I am so worried for him. He has endured so much to skate internationally. Training at 9 years old in France, then training in Sochi at 15, moving to Switzerland at 17. I am worried about his first competition next week.

Yes. I've always found it problematic (at best) how the entire online skating community turned a blind eye to that situation because Lambiel is so revered.
Has it been confirmed or alleged by any party in the situation, or by anyone who actually knows their situation, that something inappropriate and problematic happened?

No. There were photos they were posting on social media a decade ago that raised some eyebrows, but to my knowledge, nothing was ever confirmed.

So some people find other people problematic for not being outraged by something that is based on the original person’s supposition where nobody involved or with knowledge of the dynamic has ever made an allegation, much less provided tangible evidence, of something untoward going on between the two?

I think people need to let go of being desperate for crusades that they’ll just get mad at people for not jumping in on the outrage bandwagon when that outrage is only based on one’s imagination and interpretation of things they’ve seen that other people can reasonably see differently. These are real people we’re talking about, and some may be a bit more cautious to where they’ll at least wait for an allegation or even gossip from people in the know before they deem someone problematic.

Who do you think should be Deniss's new coach? He is training in Fribourg, so Ponsart would be fine. I think he would only want to be trained in Europe. And I don't think there was any relationship with Stephan. But I do think that a change of coach is good. Deniss at 26 is a grandpa in figure skating, he needs to be independent. Facts, he has been to more worlds than any competing male skater, more Europeans than any male except Valtter who is 38, and only Jason has been at more Grand prix's and only by 1. I think he could remote train, but I hate him in the kiss n cry alone.
