I have also heard the rumor that Peng might skate with Wang Lei for the upcoming national games.

Jin has always been reluctant to return to the rinks after the Olympics, and he has already said in an interview during the Beijing Olympic cycle that it might be his last season or last Olympics.

Jin also skipped or “escaped” some propaganda events held by the Chinese sports authority just wanting to be with his wife according to some of his closest fans. This was a big deal for a state-funded skater like Jin because it was a sign of disrespecting the leaders or managements in China. This might also indicate that he doesn't want to be back in sports.

Jin Yang is married?? Well who even knew.

Do you mean the skating galas that many tc skaters were attending in April/May last year, but Yang wasn't there?

No idea. Could be one of them.

That’s too bad for Peng if she wants to go on, and Jin doesn’t. It happens though. Maybe he’s just tired of training. Or tired of the politics in Chinese skating? She’s only 25, which is not old for pairs these days. Although I know she’s had foot injuries. Jin is 28, also not that old for pairs. He and his wife have a child?

He and his wife have a child?
If it's referring to my earlier comment about him becoming a full time parent, then idk, I was referring to a sugar glider that's in his care currently lol.

I imagine the entire deal with closed loop training was just not healthy for most, so I won't be shocked if he just wants to step away after those two years. I wish him the best either way. I hope Peng Cheng can find someone to skate, if she still wants to.

Wait is Jin Yang actually married  I only heard some gossip a while ago that he had a girlfriend and they are probably getting married in a year or two...

And I thought he missed one of the events in Lanzhou because he was stuck in quarantine 🤣 He did go to the one in Xinjiang I think??

Well raruki only said "some". Going through the history, seems Jin Yang attended one (guess that's Xinjiang), while Jin Boyang didn't. But what I understood is that Yang probably gave a personal life reason for skipping the first one (guess that's Lanzhou). That's assuming these were the propaganda events, of course. The entire thing was "yay, what an amazing success our olympics were, let's skate to songs praising "the motherland"!", so I assumed, but IDK.

LoL, I don't think it is actually a bad thing. Given what Jin did to Yu Xiaoyu in the swapping partner drama in 2016, I will not show any sympathy or sadness if he decides to retire. Pair skating in China is full of misogyny.

What's the tea on this? I've heard many versions of the 2016 drama but most people seem to buy the version that Jin, Peng and Xiaoyu all didn't know about the swap before going to Canada for "choreography". Although I think there was some talk that he was kinda ok with the swap and didn't really resist or fight it because he thought Xiaoyu was getting too tall/heavy for him. I don't think he had any role in initiating the drama?

Apart from this, I've also heard that Peng Cheng used to be very scared to skate with Zhang Hao. I think (unfortunately) Yu Xiaoyu was the only one resistant to the change, everyone else was happy.

Yang Jin had already known that he would swap the partners before they went to Canada for the new programs, and even there were rumors saying that Jin insisted that he want to find a new partner coz he was not able to lift Yu anymore. What's more, even Cheng Peng and Hao Zhang had already known they would swap partners. Therefore, only Xiaoyu Yu didn't know that she had to skate with Hao Zhang before they went to Canada.

Shen and Zhao also BEGGED Yu's Mum to comfort and persuade Yu to accept the decision.
You can imagine how resistant Yu was and how hard she experienced at the time. She faced the ultimate betrayal from her partners, her coaches, and her Fed.

I mean I would be scared too if he threw me into the boards and then skate off to do his SBS jump alone as if I didn't exist. I can't really imagine anyone being happy to be his partner lol

Yes she definitely got the shortest end of the stick there. I hate how her career just ended like that two years ago. Dreaming that she'll somehow come back but it's probably impossible to find a suitable partner who's tall enough and good enough.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x--521rcmek&ab_channel=OlympicsFigureSkating Not really what happened  I think unfortunately some "extreme feminists" over on weibo and douban have rewritten this. Although, yes, apparently he was a very scary partner in practice, for Peng Cheng.

It is sad Yu Xiaoyu wasn't involved in the decision making process. I'm not sure I'd assign blame to Jin Yang, mostly I'd say he clearly knew, just as much as the other two skaters who knew.

Oof forgot about that. Yeah, that sucks a lot. But I guess I buy it, then, that she wanted to switch, and Jin Yang thought Yu Xiaoyu was getting too tall (I agree that's shitty of him to think like that, btw), and the federation thought partner swapping would be better for them all.

ETA: I think Wang Lei was also trying to help Yu Xiaoyu make a comeback in 2020? IDK why it didn't work out. I guess he'll at least have some experience with a top senior lady, but I'm not sure how he'll hold up, if this is at all true. @otisgear

Yea they did try out together but it just didn't work out I guess. He also hasn't competed in a long while but I don't really remember him having serious injuries (or maybe it was just never mentioned) so perhaps physically he's still fine. We'll just have to wait and see but I was still really surprised to see him back.

Wang Lei is a nice guy generally compared to the other 将军 in pair skating in China and really takes care of Wang Xuehan.
In 三亚选妃 drama in 2018(Lol, cannot find a proper English name to translate), he nailed every fitness test and skating test and ranked the top male skater in Sanya, and he still decided to skate with Wang Xuehan even though she was dumped by Shen and Zhao because of her poor results in Sanya and left the national teams with her to go back to Team Beijing eventually.
He is one of the few 将军 I admire, along with Hang Cong.

Hahaha this is the first time I'm hearing the pairs men referred to as 将军🤣
Also please elaborate on the 三亚选妃 drama LOL I've never heard of this. There was partner swapping drama again in 2018??

Lol, we call the pair girl "妃子” and pair boy “将军” in the fandom of Chinese figure skating.:ROFLMAO:

Yes, they repeated the swapping drama in 2018 after the Olympics. They tried to dissolve all of the existing pairs apart from Sui/Han and regroup the new ones in terms of their technical and athletic strengths. I cannot recall the exact details to be honest, but I remember that Wang ranked as the top male skater and he could choose the strongest pair girl, but he refused and went back to Beijing with Wang Xuehan. What's more, Shen and Zhao were intended to make Zhang Hao and Li Xiangning the new pair but afraid that the age gap was too large. I also heard that Peng would skate with Wang Yihan. But everything was canceled because Wang and Zhang Hao, who had some conflicts with the national team(but cannot recall the details of why they had conflicts), left the national teams.

Oh, that must've been when they split Gao/Xie and a lot of the other baby pairs... Who's Wang Yihan? Or did you meant Huang Yihang?

I heard that Yao Bin STILL wanted to split Sui/Han after the 2018 olympics (he really never cared for them even after they became the solidly number 1 pair huh) but it didn't happen because they threatened to just retire if they were forced to split lol

Sorry for the typo, It is Huang Yihan.

LOL, the rivalry between Yao and Luan is also full of drama. Yao always keeps looking down upon many Luan’s skaters.

Some of these stories. 😳
The Sui/Han split in 2018 one I'm not really sure what to make of it. I brought it up last year, too: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...d-to-beijing-2022.100886/page-44#post-6215045

Like, I think SHE was rumoured as being paired with Huang Yihang too. Now putting that with the Peng Cheng being paired with him as well, I think it's 100% something I'd take with a grain of salt. The Li Xiangning with Zhang Hao, I think we did hear it as being legit, but think she skated with Xie Zhong that season? And Zhang Hao very much did go to Team Beijing and skated with Yu Xiaoyu that season... Even trained with Savchenko, IIRC, got choreographed by Richaud?

Some of them are definitely "good to know, but I'll believe it when I see it" category for me personally 😅

LOL that's pretty crazy 🤣 I didn't hear the Sui with Huang rumours but Yao Bin definitely considered splitting Sui/Han post 2018 olys, he actually said it in an interview. The version I heard was that Yao had a brilliant idea of splitting Sui/Han to form two top teams 💀 After Sui broke her ankle again in Pyeongchang they were told by doctors that her foot was too fragile and she might not last till Beijing, so the team wanted to put Han with a younger girl and then put Sui with another guy once she recovered (if she recovered).

Anyway, it's all gossip but nothing's too crazy to be unbelievable when we're talking about Cfed lol.

Li Xiangning skated about half a season with Xie Zhong before getting so injured that it screwed both her pairs and singles career. I think Wang Yuchen also did try out with another guy briefly, I forgot who it was but she eventually went back to Huang by 2020. The baby pairs scene is a giant musical chairs mess and now 90% of the skaters involved are gone lol.

God, I would have HATED it, if it had actually happened. It would be like ripping someone's arms off and sewing up two Frankenstein's monsters. I can believe that 'reasoning' I guess. Anyway, Luan Bo baby pairs should be good to go, if there's no central body anymore. Can't really mess with her team.

It's actually kind of unfortunate, I think the rumour mill works so effectively in China because the skaters themselves don't tend to say much/can't say much. Not really like the US, where the skaters can make instagram lives about anything and everything if they want. Goodness even knows what's really happening. I think ignoring it is self care for me, but I do get some of it my way sometimes lol.

ETA: Which Yao Bin interview, by the way?

ETA2: BTW, the previous thread had this link from @bcash https://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/TDmIcjzKtDRGuUBNNJA3GA If you want to read you can @otisgear

My version was that Yao wanted to split Sui/Han before the 2015 worlds, but the silver medal saved Sui/Han eventually. So it might explain why Sui/Han was so emotional in the K&c when they won the medal?
But one thing is for sure, Yao always looked down upon Luan's skaters, and tried everything to block Luan.
Yao is indeed crazily obsessed with his big bulk Zhang Hao as well and gave him a lot of privileges while he was in still charge of the national team. In Chinese skating fandom, we call Zhang Hao "太子(a crown prince)”, coz he enjoyed the privileges in the national team just like a crown prince in his kingdom.
