Cheer thread for Anastasia Gubanova

Is a postpone junior worlds? You've got to be kidding. They need to start coming up with a plan B.

Phenomenal job by nastia at the Olympic Games 2 outstanding skates she got squeezed in both of them like a skater from a small federation.
But she's very close to reaching the world class level of Loena Young You and Alysa Liu.
And for the judges to give Alysa a 1.98 PCS advantage over nastia is incredible and must be heartbreaking to this girl trying to build a career for herself. I can understand Mariah getting higher PCS her overall skating skills are a little better than Nastyas. But not Alysas. Being from a powerful federation like the United States figure skating federation is a huge benefit. They kept trying to put Chen and Bell in front of Nastia and couldn't until today.
Yeah, I read the Juniors were postponed. Nothing about Seniors so far though.

Oh God I hope not move it to another site.

Why don't these dimwits at the ISU have a plan B?

Anastasia must be elated with her 2 Is fantastic skates check that 3 fantastic skates at the Olympics counting the team event short program. She needs to go to worlds and get more experience competing against then against the top girls.

The world is loosening up on vaccine mandates I don't understand why Bulgaria would cancel junior worlds. Don't give it again to them for a very long time. Move it to England or some place.

LOL!

Nastya needs to go to Worlds and gain more experience and have more great memories.
Hopefully France won't cancel worlds and I think wanting to bring the showdown between Anna and Sasha to their country so soon after the Olympics will be very exciting for the fans and figure skating is popular in France. :)

So, Nastia didn't get any senior events while competing from Russia? That's messed up. Honestly, leaving Russia to skate for Georgia was a very smart move in so many ways.
She had two challengers in late 2018 for Russia. Nastya was 4th at tallin and second at Golden Spin behind Bradie and ahead of Mariah. She should have finished ahead of Mariah in the Olympics but the work that Mariah has put in internationally the last few years has really paid off for her. Hopefully the same happens for Anastasia. But Nastyas career stagnated obviously not getting any senior events the next 3 years internationally. not having an international competition for 3 years caused Anastasia's World standing to absolutely disappear she went out of the top thousand and had no ranking heading into this season. Can you imagine a skater of last year's ability not having a world ranking. But look at her now! I only wish she had moved to Georgia the previous season because her scores would have been even higher this season. Nastia got squeezed all season with her scores but still delivered and even overcame a nasty bout with coronavirus in November.

I bet she is every bit as thrilled with her performance as Anna is hers. :) I know that sounds crazy but it's true.

It's time for Georgia to do what a lot of federations do and that's build up their top skaters scores at Nationals. this could really help anastasia next season. The highest scores and pcs scores I've ever seen for Anna and Aliona have come at Russian Nationals. Georgia did not have a Nationals this season. They have good skaters in all disciplines now it's time to get their sport to grow at home in to start hosting a Nationals every season.

It's been so hard for Nastya to break 200 points in her career in. She did it twice this year at Finlandia and the Olympics. Both of those times she should have higher than they ended up with especially her PCS scores. Georgia needs to have a Nationals to start the paint a new picture of her scores and where they should be. It works for others why not Nastya?

This was her first year returning to international competition. She skated very well. She can make more progress next season. The judges will start giving her higher marks. Right now I am just so happy that she skated in the Olympics (and Europeans before that). In Russia there no opportunities for her. I am glad that she switched to Georgia. She could go to worlds every year and develop each time she competes internationally.

2 things from me 1st is I wish she did like a kurakova did and that's leave for another country a few years ago. Nastya did it in the Olympic season. Like you said that she started over internationally hopefully the scores will better next season. Because that masterpiece free skate of Anastasia's at the Olympics deserved more than a 135 points and it deserves more than 65 PCS points. She also did what most of the ladies don't do when that's put 2 triple triples in her free skate and hit them both. Anna does a quad triple and then a triple triple later obviously that is unbeatable. But I would like to see the ladies like Nastya that do 2 triple triples in their free skate to be rewarded more than they are and on the technical side.

It would be interesting for me to see if Nastya keeps one or both of her programs for next season. I would love for her to keep her free skate and then change her short program to something that gets her to skate faster with more impressive skating skills. She has it in her it just has to be brought out.

Nazta had a-blast at the Olympics. I hope it's the same scenario for her at worlds.

Nastyas fabulous free skate at the Winter Olympics. Enjoy! Thanks to Reddit.

The comments are interesting and killing the judges. Even more than I do. ;) I mean the girl had two 3 - 3s and placed behind Bell someone who did not have one in the free skate and fell in the SP. I even think you can say Nastyas skates in the SP and free skate were better than Loenas. Not scored that way of course. Nastya is reborn representing Georgia. I hope she makes it to worlds.

Where is Gubanova's training base set btw.?

Her training base is the same as the last three years in St Petersburg Russia. Having the same team and same coaches and the same facility for a couple years has really added some stability to Anastasiias skating and career. Her skating was very clean and beautiful at the Olympics.

I don't know if and when Nastia moves to Georgia to train. If their training facilities are not at the level of Russia's training facilities she will probably stay in Russia. Besides St Petersburg is where her loved ones live. I just hope Georgia has their own Nationals next season. To make the sport really grow in Georgia they have to have a Nationals and create excitement for it every season.

Gubanova is Bergamo, Italy right now (presumably training there until Worlds):
Any idea if her Russian coache is with her?
I guess it's possible he will have to coach her via zoom or whatever.

Nastya will be away from home in Saint Petersburg for a very long time. I do wonder how she will handle that. The way I understand it if she would go back to Russia now she would have an impossible time getting out for worlds.

Worlds is the last competition of the season. I hope this girl has her focus like she did at the Olympics and continues building her career and establishing herself as a world class skater.

She had an excellent chance of securing two spots for Georgia for the women. Great opportunity. Georgia could because quite a strong country in figure skating.
Where does she have to finish at worlds to secure 2 spots for Georgia? It must be exciting and interesting for Anastasia to help the sport of figure skating grow in Georgia. They really could have a good team and a year or 2 there were 2 and then down the road spots on the team will be taken by native Georgians and not just Russians representing Georgia.

Nastya was pretty flawless at the Olympics. I'm not sure we can count on that again but I hope she does well enough to improve her world standing and get 2 spots for Georgia. It's vital she improves her world standing because skating in the 1st or 2nd group has killed her SP scores and especially her SP PCS scores this season.

She would have to be in the top ten.

True. But I must say the skaters 5 through 11 were tremendous.Of course the top rladies took the case.

Maybe the judges are holding it against Nastya that she couldn't make it in Russia and had to go to a small country's federation to continue. And always skating early in the short program has really hurt her this season. But it's time to look forward to worlds and then a new season when Nastya is more established.

Best of luck to Anastasiia in Worlds. I’m hoping for two strong skates and for her to be marked fairly. I think a clean short should definitely be 70+, however a early start (number 3) does her no favours. Top 10 and two spots for Georgia is definitely within her reach.

Best of luck 🍀☘️🍀

Do you mean group 3 or the third skater overall?
If Nastia is skating 3rd she'll be lucky to get a PCS of 29 and she's easily one of the most beautiful and component skaters in the world.
It will be a miracle if she breaks 65 in the SP if she's really skating in the first three skaters.

At the Olympics she was in the second group in the short program and the third group in the free skate. The Ridiculousness of the isu rules never ceases to amaze me. It's just a trash organization holding the sport back. Hey maybe they can cancel a third straight gpf next season.

And you would think without the three great and highly ranked Russian ladies at worlds Nsstya would be dropped back to skating later. It's both sad and funny but Anastasia will have to skate before skaters she easily beat at the Olympics. I would love to LOL but I can't. Her career has been harpooned from so many angles it's hard to believe.

3T3T, I would also think that Nastias chances to finish in the top 10 and get two spots for Georgia is in great doubt just on her starting position alone. And starting so early also puts an immense amount of pressure on her. She knows she will have to be flawless just to get a score of 65 and a 30 PCS. I'm not loving this sport right now.

Disappointing SP from Anastasia. She is in 14th place after the short program but only less than 2 points out of the top 10 and 3 points out of the top 9. To see her PCS under 30 is crushing because other skaters fall and it does not affect their pcs score.

Hopefully she won't skate in the 1st group for the free skate and can somehow sneak into the top 10 when get 2 spots for Georgia for next year's worlds. I do wonder if skating so early knowing she has to be in the top 10 to get 2 spots for Georgia next year is too much pressure for Nastya. I'm also wondering how tired this girl is because I saw an interview of her at the Olympics and I've never seen Nastya look so tired. We must remember she's not used to these long seasons . Skating only a couple events in Russia each season the last few seasons did not prepare Nastya for the monster season of traveling and practicing and competing she has had this season. She is not a super strong girl like Kaori, Loena, Young and Alina who are powerful athletes.

I'm sure this long difficult season has taken a toll on Nastya. She also had to deal with serious complications from coronavirus back in November. Hopefully she gets her ranking up high enough where she's not skating in the 1st or 2nd group all the time next season in the short program.

Good luck to Anastasia in the free skate. No matter what's happens she's building her career and can look forward to better things next season season.

I tried to keep this post positive after my previous one was kind of negative and I did that. But I tried to keep this post short and I did not do that. ;)

Definitely not the skate that Anastasia was looking for. However after the fall she didn’t give up and still gave a performance that I enjoyed. I wasn‘t expecting the 3T in the combo, that showed real fight.

I wasn‘t expecting much PCS score wise with her being 3rd to start and was expecting her to really suffer after the fall. So to get close to 30 exceeded my expectations. Still it is crazy with her wonderful skating the she is only ranked 13th on PCS.

However all is not lost, as you said @Scott512, she is only 2 points from the Top 10. I believe she can do make the Top 10. Let’s be optimistic.

After retiring 3 times last season this has been a good senior debut season 4 Anastasia for Georgia. But when Mariah and Karen fall their PCS is still top notch and deservedly so by the way. The same should be happening for Anastasia. I don't care how early she skates under 30 in PCS for her skating skills interpretation and performance is wrong. It has to crush Nastia.

Why was Nastia skating 3rd in the first group? She is this ranked higher than many of the girls there. Some of the girls who skated well after Anastasia had seasons best short programs with scores in the 50s.

Good luck to Nastia in her free skate. She has some good things to build on for next season. The problem is her Russian coach of 3 years who has helped her so much is not with her at worlds. This has to be making her more insecure and if he wasn't coaching her at the Olympics I don't think her performance would have been as stellar as it was there. I mean if you take the coaches away from the top 3 in the short program their performance levels and execution drops off. Take Eteri and Danil away from Anna the best and most clutch lady and she does not win the Olympics and her performance level and execution would drop without her coaches.

I hope the situation is better for Anastasia with her coach next season and the Russian skaters next season. But there is still a lot up in the air.

As I have said this has been a good season for Nastia with a lot to build on for next season when hopefully she can have breakthroughs.
I kind of hoped she models her career path after that of Loena and Mariah.

Anastasiia finished sixth. Very impressive for her first Worlds and two spots from Georgia next year. It also means she'll get Grand Prix assignment. I look forward to seeing her more next year and down the road.
Hopefully Anastasia makes a big jump up in the rankings next season. I don't really want to see her skating in the 1st group like at worlds with the short program that really hurt her. She went from 14th to 6th at a world championship that's really impressive. Nastya does two 3 - 3s in her free skate. That's very hard to do. I hope we see her TES and PCS rise next season. That will help a lot.

This was a very good debut senior season for Anastasia representing Georgia. I think Georgia for giving her a chance to continue her career otherwise she would have been retired at 18.

Competing at the Grand Prix will definitely help. Maybe she can medal and even make the GPF? Definitely skating for Georgia was a very good decision. I'm very happy that she's getting these opportunities.

It's kind of unbelievable that Nastya has gone from retiring three times to having a career reborn right before our eyes. Thank you Georgia.

But Nastya is easily one of the most beautiful artistic and musical skaters out there and when she skates clean like today her PCS should not be 63.10 it should be between 67 and 69 at least. Hopefully that will come with time and earning the respect of the judges which they obviously do not have for her at this point.
I know skating early hurts it's an unwritten rule and that's something the international Skating Union needs to change with their judges. it's just not fair.

At least Anastasia has saved her career and provied she's a world-class skater. But she skates for a small Federation now and maybe that will be held against her.
