Cheer thread for Anastasia Gubanova

You have the right attitude but it's just been so frustrating over the years to see her low balled when she skates flawlessly..

The good news is she's kind of re-establishing herself this season hopefully she goes to Worlds and then her scores go up next season. It does frustrate me to see her get picked apart and lose points here and there and then that does not happen with the top skaters.
It is frustrating. Her tech went down again because Ur? According to the Italian commentators they were a bit too stingy with her. I couldn't listen very well because I was on the phone and had the audio at minimum (I'm working too lol). But I'm recording it and will re-watch and listen later. I'm curious to see the protocols too.

That was a super disappointing score. Pretty outrageous really. A too Low PCS again and a Tech score below 35 for a fabulous skate like that? How can she ever get ahead? It's really time for Nastya or her coach or her new figure skating federation to say something to the Isu a about it for allowing this kind of horrendous judging of such a good skater when she's skating so well. Mariah followed nastya and had a pretty rough skate and still they almost put her ahead of Nastya probably because of the higher PCS for Mariah since nastia had the higher Tech score.

What the judges do to pinch some of these skaters like Anastasia is go in with an idea how they can keep this skater within range of that skater and it always works out that way.

It's always nice to hear Tara Lipinski commentate on Nastyas skates. She doesn't hold back on the praise. ;)

Good luck in the free skate. I'm glad Nastya is having amazing Olympic experiences even at a very tough time.

We know the drill by now. All I can hope for is her good health (free from injuries), hard work and consistency. It will pay off, eventually. Fingers crossed for the FS. ?

Edit: Right now, I see she will end up at 10th place, at worst. Not bad. ;)

Well said An entire.

10th but she should be a few spots higher to be honest. She really had the best SP of the day until Anna blew it away by a wide margin with her technical prowess and tremendous artistry. Of course Kamilla racks up the numbers and has lots of artistry but it wasn't her best SP all things considered.

I want to go look at the numbers between Nastya and Anna and see if there's really a 15-point difference in their skates. Anna was about seven points ahead in the technical score which means she would be about a mind blowing eight points ahead of Nastya with the PCS score. A few PCS point advantage for Anna over Nastya is realistic 7 or 8 is dubious. Not saying Anna does not deserve those PCS scores she's a very beautiful and artistic skater. I don't really want her numbers to come down I want Nastyas to go up some.

The real kicker is Sasha having a higher PCS score then Nastya she doesn't do any of the PCS elements as well as Nastya.

It's great that Nastya will be in the second-to-last group. She is creating some great memories for herself while finally establishing herself as a world-class figure skater thanks to the Georgia figure skating Federation. But those three straight years of no international events when she was skating for Russia was a devastating setback. Anastasiia has a very beautiful free skate and I hope it's a dream skate for her. Finishing in the top 10 would be an awesome achievement for her.

I hope she can skate a strong LP. At the Euros she was still recovering from YKW. Hopefully she is stronger now.

Did they actually downgrade her jump? I can accept a ur, but a downgrade is outrageous.

Yes they downgraded 2 of her jumps. They sure looked good to me especially the 3 - 3 at the beginning of the program.

Two jumps were deemed on the quarter (q, short by 90 degrees) which is less severe than an underrotation (<, short by more than 90 but less than 180 degrees) and much less severe than a downgrade (<<, short by 180 degrees or more).

Thanks cor the breakdown. Did you think those were deserved deductions?

Harsh judging and not necessary. It almost took Nastya out of 10th place even though they were small deductions. They really wanted to put Mariah and Karen ahead of her but they couldn't because of their falls. Karen has URs all only a small percentage actually called. Karen is far more established than Nastya having been 4th at world championships 2 times she deserves respect from the judges but I just wish they would call it like it is for everybody. I guess the better you are the more you get away with.

I hope the judges are a little more lenient in the free skate because I don't wanna see Nastya under 130 points with that beautiful free skate of hers.

The combo look fine to me tbh. For the ESP Italian commentators was good, in real time, and they kept the same opinion when they watched it in slow-mow too. One of them, who's also a coach, said in real time that she wasn't sure about the Lz, but in slow-mo she said she would give it a Q. She also said that Guba has to work on the first spin also because she bends too much forward and it's ugly to see. She has a point there. I didn't pay much attention the first time but I watched the performance 3-4 times.

I also watched the FS from the Europeans today. I think Guba should work a bit on her upper body movements and projection. I like her "intimate" skating and she has great qualities but she needs to project a bit more (like Bell, Chen, Wakaba.) Wakaba in particular is exceptional with her upper body movements. I think she still has a lot of work to do but she will get there, injuries permitting (fingers crossed.) Right now she is gathering experience at international level and little by little she will build up. All the best for tomorrow.:saint:

The combo was fine and they just look at things to knit pick for Nastya and it's been that way for years. The very top of the ladies figure skating world get away with this.

Europeans free skate was Nastyas worst free skate of the season.

Yes Anastasia needs to improve her upper body movement and work on her spins especially the 1st one on her 3 - 3s. If she hits that 1st 3 - 3 tomorrow I think she'll have an excellent free skate.

I also would like to see Nastya improve her speed around the ice. Her glide and musicality is wonderful. But her skating skill scores would improve if she got faster. Watching Kaori and Anna fly around the ice makes me realize how fast they are and Nastya isnt.

Also the three ladies you mentioned wakaba Karen and Mariah are a couple years to several years older than nastya they are very savvy and have a lot of experience internationally. Nastya is basically a rookie this season even though she's been skating beautifully since she was 10.

We have to remember that Anastasia went 3 freaking years without an International assignment and it was an epic set back for her career. Her last one as a member of the Russian federation was in December of 2018 at golden spin where she finished behind Bradie and in front of Mariah. Back then Nastya had a bigger upside than Mariah. She was 16 and Mariah was 22. But in 3 years since then Mariah has improved so much while Nastya stagnated.

Interesting enough Nastya skates right after Mariah tomorrow in the free skate at the Olympics. Both have super beautiful free skates. But the judges this season gave Mariah considerably higher PCS scores and it will be interesting to see if that continues tomorrow. Mariah's skating skills have become very good. I think Nastyas skating skills are very good but the judges think there is a SS gap between the 2. That's okay Nastya has time on her side. She's skating for a country where she knows she is the number one lady.

I would really like Nastya to learn from Mariah and Loena. Those 2 girls have really become outstanding and learned how to grind out improvements even though it takes years.
But at least Nastya has a chance now. She can take her time train properly and make strides year after year. Being ig a stable situation with her team and the same coach for three years now is a big help. She was coach hopping for a couple years but she found a home and I'm happy for that.

Agreed. She was left behind so she has some work to do. But as you said, she is still young and number 1 Lady for Georgia. Honestly, I'm so happy to see her still skating. She is in good shape and she didn't quit like what happened with so many talented russian skaters. The girl is strong. Wish her the best luck today.

It's incredible how many of the Russian girls have retired at a younger age than what anastasiia is now.

If Nastya gets to 190 points today with the way they pinch her scoring that would be really good anything higher than that would be great.

Nastya skates soon she has a beautiful free Skate 2 show off to the world. But so does Mariah who ice skating right before Anastasia..
If they both skate clean it will be interesting how the judges score it I would expect Bell to get the edge because of the experience and generally scoring much higher than Nastya this season.

Great skate and SB. Congratulations. :cheer2:
They looked a bit disappointed with the scores in the K&C, I think? I have to see the GOE's but the PCS I can see seems fair to me. Mariah deserves something more and Guba isn't far at all. The weakest mark of them seems to be the transitions. The rest are in the 8s.

Considering all the skates, from TE to Individual competitions, I think she had a great Olympics. If she continues like this it will be even better at Worlds. I'm sure of that.

When don't they not look disappointed with their scores when she skates well?

What was the pcs total compared to Mariah's? I missed that part. I guess I can't really have a problem with Mariah having higher PCS she's had much higher pcs all season in both programs and her skating skills are a little higher level than Nastyas. Not sure why her technical mark should be higher than Anastasia doesn't ask you to do 233 in her free skate? She skated 2 excellent programs at the Olympics and should be a few points over 200. Oh well it's a great experience she did very well. Now on to worlds and hopefully more respect next season.

Alysa skated very well but when her PCS marks get as much as more respect than nastyas that's a little disappointing. She should have to earn her PCS marks like Anastasia has to and all her interpretative and artistry and musicality skills are not equal to Nastya.

I hope she gets in the Olympic gala because she did not at Europeans and it bothered me.

I was surprised to see Gubanova landing below Bell (Anastasia had a higher technical content including a 3-3 in the 2nd half) but otherwise congrats on a clean and beautiful skate!

Mariah: 68.67
Guba: 65.52
The TR is the lowest for Guba, 7.89. The rest are from 8.14 (SS) to 8.32 (PE&IN).
The tech is higher for Guba. Only Alysa surpassed her with 71.95. Leona has the weakest Tech, so far, and the highest PCS of them all. I think she is a bit inflated. But I might be biased, I don't know.

Thanks for the stats good to know anastacia was higher technically than Mariah. I'm not surprised Mariah had higher PCS her overall skating skills especially are a little better at this point. But this was the day where nasty ass should have been her equal in PCS since she was flawless. I was hoping for a 67 or 68.

It's been a successful season for nastya if she has something to build on for the future and can take her time and really can become something special even without an ultra jummps.

Man Sacha just killed it at the Olympics.

Dude, 69.26 for Wakaba. WTH?
I'll take the 65,52 for Guba at this point and dance. ;) lol
Maybe it's time for the Georgia figure skating Federation to complain about this to the international skating Union because they got cheated out of the team of that final two because they put Nastia below the Canadian girl when that should not have happened.

I get it that this girl has to earn her marks but when she's Flawless she should be given what she deserves just like the top girls get.

Really impressive. Couldn't beat Anna overall but 1st in the FS and rightly so.
The skating today has been incredible starting with nastiga being so beautiful and clean.

Anna is the rightful Olympic champion although sasha was like Wonder Woman. Shame on the Russian federation for torturing KV like that when they could have pulled her out after the team event and one of their girls were going to win the gold anyway. Now she lost for the 1st time as a senior and awaits all kinds of possible penalties from the ioc for the doping scandal.
Is the Russian federation are dopes they may have ruined this phenomenon's career but I hope not.

This is time for grievance for her, I know. But she is so young. Plenty of time to recover and achieve the highest results.

But they didn't need to put her through this and she didn't even finish on the podium and is devastated at 15. It's rough for these girls and I feel free KV but I also feel for Anastasia who got the shaft for like 5 years in Russia. Everybody saw it everybody knew it and it still happened.

They should have a lady ceremony because kV did not make the podium.

Yes they are and Sasha was not happy about something. I mean you'll and five quads like Nathan Chen did and don't become Olympic champion I can't blame her frustration. Nastya knows all these girls so I wonder if she will have any into reactions with him in the next day before they head back to Russia.

I saw someone bringing her words on twitter. Yep, she is mad about her placement.
I get it but she should calm the feck down. Her SP let her down, not Kamila. She won the free and Kamila is off the podium.

I think I was a bit harsh with her (Trusova). This was right after the results and the emotions are high. It's understandable. Sorry also for bringing this on Guba's cheer thread. My mistake.

I was hoping for a top 10 overall placement for Guba. Nonetheless, I am very happy with her performance overall. Wish her the best for Worlds. ?

Nastya likes Sasha very much so I'm sure she would like to consuole her but is probably a little scared to. ;) Sasha lost a gold medal by doing a triple Axel in her short program yesterday if she just did a really nice double axle 99% sure she would have won the gold medal today.

Didn't Nastia finish in the top 10? She was 10th in the short program and tenth in the free skate.

Unfortunately not. She was 10th on the SP and FS but finished 11 overall, with 200.98 vs 202.30 of Mariah who finished 10th overall. Oh well, I hope this will give her a boost for the Worlds. Are we having World or is there a chance they are postponing it like for the Juniors?

Is a postpone junior worlds? You've got to be kidding. They need to start coming up with a plan B.

Phenomenal job by nastia at the Olympic Games 2 outstanding skates she got squeezed in both of them like a skater from a small federation.
But she's very close to reaching the world class level of Loena Young You and Alysa Liu.
And for the judges to give Alysa a 1.98 PCS advantage over nastia is incredible and must be heartbreaking to this girl trying to build a career for herself. I can understand Mariah getting higher PCS her overall skating skills are a little better than Nastyas. But not Alysas. Being from a powerful federation like the United States figure skating federation is a huge benefit. They kept trying to put Chen and Bell in front of Nastia and couldn't until today.
