Carreira/Ponomarenko Need a Cheer Thread

Putting on my conspiracy hat and believing that USFS lowkey sabotaged them by 1.) having them switch out their original fd (which had a very interesting premise!!) and 2.) hosing them at both grand prixs to the point where they were the only top U.S. team to not medal at a gp event. I think their disaster of their fall season really impacted their confidence in a way they haven't been able to recover from yet
I think they've definitely started to recover from what happened though. They could not have gotten these performances out without some belief in themselves here.

As difficult as this season has been for them to find their footing, I’m so proud of them for constantly trying to improve and not digging their heels in when something isn’t working or doesn’t feel right. It sucks that it happened at all, especially in an Olympic year but disappointments and setbacks only make you grow as a team, and I think their partnership is a testament to how they’ve navigated those moments. This is just more fuel for the fire. They’ve dusted off the cobwebs on this program, and it’s going to be STUNNING in Milan. C’mon CPOM!!!! 🤘🏼

Yes. Christina wanted something darker though. And I guess nndp was also too healthy for her. She was held back by Igor's ice princess roles for too long and says never again, it's kill or be killed.

It is absolutely hilarious to me that off-ice she seems very sweet and in practices I've seen they laugh a lot together, but for programs she wants it dark and dramatic or nothing hahahaha.
Music for DEATH isn’t dark enough for her?

Would have loved for them to get 2nd (as I think they are overall a better team) but so so happy for them!!

Big lessons learned this season on trusting their own instincts, responding to feedback and staying true to themselves. I’d rather this happen now than when they are battling more internationally further down the line.

If you didn't listen to the press conference, Christina said she lives 5 minutes from the rink now. I'm sure that feels amazing lol. Also Anthony again took time to talk about how lucky he was to have a partner who did that drive for so long just to live out this dream with him.

I do appreciate that he left his seniors at Canadian Nats in the hands of Adria and the Moir crew. All the IAMO teams matter, but C/P's stakes were just so high, they needed that extra support both morally and more broadly.

EDIT: It's also remarkable to think about where they were at the last pre-Olympics Nationals. And the fact that one of the coaches in that K&C this week was then competing against them and preparing to win two Olympic medals herself. What a quad it's been.

Also Scott's delight for them in the kiss and cry was such a joy to see. He is clearly very invested in these two, and the journey they've taken together has been incredible so far. I hope he also enjoys his time back at the Olympics in team usa gear hahahaha.

Is he going as part of their team? I have been wondering about which Fed sends him ( assuming LesGacs finish 3rd as well at Canadians)?

That's an interesting point. Is there still a limit to the number of coaches you can bring with you?

I think there is but I don't know the number. So I found myself wondering about Scott because both his teams would be going in as #3s so each fed I would think are more invested in making sure their #1 and 2s are well taken care. And both of his teams also skate under the umbrella of IAM which will have their coaches already accredited for the other teams.

I am more interested to see how this plays out than I am for who makes the team

even during covid protocols skaters were allowed 1 personal coach each so I imagine he'll be there with someone

video of christina and anthony being told the news officially

very subdued response as is their response to basically everything lol
As a fellow subdued responder in life I too would be this way in public and on camera haha

So so happy for them!! Like so many of you, I’ve been such a big fan since their junior days and I’m so thrilled to see all the hard work and determination pay off. Such worthy Olympians!!

Gabi talking about how Christina is introverted but performs in a beautiful way was so true and as a fellow introvert I was just like "yes this 100% makes sense"
