Carreira/Ponomarenko Need a Cheer Thread

So they were good and rhe scores are poppy!@#k? I did not get to watch. Also what did Piper and Paul not do?
They weren't perfect, still much room for improvement. But it was so close with LaLa that it seemed obvious to me that they got underscored. They were ahead of LaLa in the RD.

G/P looked sloppy and they had a curve lift that it took forever to balance. They got Lv1 and neg GOE on that.

Lala and cpom both had a lot of things under review. lala's stuff got mostly reviewed up; cpom's stuff got mostly reviewed down. Just enough so lala could beat them. Their tes was ahead before reviews.

Although they both got very muted goes compared to r/a which is...something.

Based on what the last number shown on the tracker:
LaLa went from 67.48 to 64.46: down 3.02 pts
Carpom went from 64.83 to 62.84: down 1.99 pts

So no, Lala's TES did not get mostly reviewed up ;)

These two teams seem very much on equal footing with the panel and the judges.

Yeah. It looks like the judges are liking R/A and Zin/Kol much more than Lala, Car/Pom, and Gui/Fab. I can't blame them regarding Car/Pom; this season's programs, in comparison to those shown two seasons ago, are not as sophisticated and polished. But it's really hard to do with the RD theme. It has messed with a number of couples with respect to preparation, IMHO.

Does anyone know what CPom’s FD was originally, before they changed it allegedly in response to feedback at Champs Camp?

I was wondering that as I watched today.

Putting my tin foil hat on here but…. I actually think the Lacrimosa was probably good but then the USFS saw Bock’s train wreck of a FD and decided that they couldn’t be outshone. Like isn’t it funny how in this mad season with crazy politics that all of the usually stronger teams suddenly have much weaker programmes? It just doesn’t feel like a coincidence that both CPom and LaLa ditched ideas that were classical and Olympic worthy…

Christina & Anthony did a video interview with Tatjana Flade for Ice Skating International Online after their FD at Skate Canada.

Last question of the interview is about her naturalization process - she sounds VERY hopeful that she'll have it completed within a few more weeks!

I’ve just watched the interview now but I have to say - I’ve never seen Anthony so relaxed and confident in an interview. Maybe it’s just maturing but he has such an air of confidence - it’s so nice to see. He’s always seemed like a good partner but I wonder if training under Scott is what has led him to be such a vocal supporter and cheerleader for Christina? Real respect there between them is lovely.

Also found it interesting how they said that this has been a quad of storytelling for them… if they are thinking about the narrative of quads then I can’t wait for the next one!

My tin foil would have led me to wonder if USFS was thinking about the Shibs. To be fair, Christina herself said that she thought the program didn't work. I wonder what the Champs Camp feedback would have been if they had performed their current program there.

The RD isn't good. I've said it all season since they debuted it at the Summer Sizzler and I'm sticking with that view. Now, they've got 7 weeks before Nats to scrap it and go in a completely different direction.

I don't think the program is objectively bad, and it's definitely not worse than what the rest of the field (including teams in this same event) is doing. Their dropping feels political, the US judge did score them rather well, but overall, it feels like they are being deliberately held back.

I honestly don't see what's so awful about the actual program. I'm in no teknik, so maybe there are things I'm missing.

I just personally don't like the program, so if this incentivized them to change it, I'd be completely on board. That said, this seemed inevitable the moment Rettstatt, who's consulted Z/K in the past, was put on this panel.

Rettstatt has consulted for a lot of teams in the past. It's inescapable in the sport, especially in pairs & dance.

Uh sorry what? That sounds totally unethical?
He made costume recommendations for their Beauty and the Beast FD a few seasons ago. Though, as Karen notes, it's not at all unusual for tech panelists and judges to provide such "advice" (which is....a problem!). In general, I've had the sense over the years that he's been fairly friendly with the Igor camp.

Skate America was awful especially for pairs and dance. I really don't know what to say about C/P, I love them but something is off. Olympic season sure messes with skaters' heads. They seem ok but not confident in their RD. Sure was a crappy decision for the RD theme this year. ESPECIALLY for this year! Maybe the Olympic audiences will love it.
