Aurora Games, Albany, NY, August 24

Wow. With two 3A’s, and all the other triples landed, nobody can really beat her on the jpg even if she under-rotates the 4Z. I wonder if she could fall and UR the 4Z and still beat out anyone skating clean. How many points would that FS score approximately?

I also tweeted about Hosoda, who also was impressive:
Ayaka Hosoda (Gershwin's Concerto in F for piano&orchestra): 3A, 3A+2T, 3Lz, 3Lo, 2A+2T [planned 3T], 3F, 2A.
Boitano said she just flew in today (no jet lag here!). She was 8th at Nationals & this is her 1st competitive skate outside of 🇯🇵. She received all 10s for Team World! #AuroraGames

She could, but that would assume that all other jumps are fully rotated (which hasn’t consistently been the case domestically or internationally). Not to take away from her accomplishment, but I hesitate to ever call anyone unbeatable.

Alysa’s base value assuming all Level 4s is 74.96 with the junior version of her Free and 77.96 with the senior version. Alysa’s rotations were much better here as her 3Lz+3T is usually under, but she made sure to rotate that 3T. Her 3T has always been wonky which is why she probably ditched working on the 4T. Imagine being so talented that a 4Lz is easier than a 4T... we will never be able to relate.

My thoughts: First of all, I didn't take it as a serious competition - it's more about supporting women's sports and having camaraderie together. It was more like an old cheesefest pro-am. Which is fine and fun and I enjoyed it for what it was. Am sorry we didn't get to see Ashley's long - was looking forward to seeing La La Land again. Mirai - wow, was not expecting her to look so good and try so many jumps a year after surgery - I was tres impressed! Loved Mae's splits, fun! Hosoda was so good, just wish she had more expression. Alyssa - double wow... after the summer comps I didn't expect her to skate so clean. I feel like she looked smoother, maybe a little faster and her limbs look longer - has she grown? Anyway, hope she can repeat that next week! If they do this competition again, I think having two programs in one day was hard on all - maybe do one program each instead. But I am thankful to have had live skating on my tv again - thank you ESPNU

Wow what a skate for Alysa- even with the UR on the 4lz that quite a skate. Lori Nichol designed a great program for her to grow in - much better stretch and holding positions.

Odd to think that the US woman with the most difficult program is not at Champs Camp because she can’t skate internationally as a Senior!

Alysa attended Champs Camp last year as part of USFS' "Emerging Athletes" program. If she wasn't at the Aurora Games it's likely she would have been invited back to Champs Camp this year.

Ah thanks for clarifying!

Also, she has her JGP debut this coming week in Lake Placid.

Ryan Dunk, Avonley Nguyen/Vadym Kolesnik, Ella Ales/Daniel Tsarik and Ilia Malinin are among the skaters assigned to the Lake Placid JGP who are at Champs Camp now: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...ugust-24-28-in-irvine-ca.105848/#post-5623490

I personally prefer Dvorak's original New World Symphony to Alysa's "New Age" version for piano arranged/performed by Jennifer Thomas, but having seen Alysa skate this program for the third time now (previously at the Broadmoor Open and Glacier Falls summer club comps), she is looking more comfortable with it to me and I'm sure she will continue to develop the FS as the season progresses.

It has been pointed out on Twitter that although this may have been a USFS-sanctioned event it was not ISU-sanctioned which means that the 4 Lutz will not count officially. Perhaps we'll see it at the JGP event next weekend :)

Thanks for letting us know. Hope you enjoyed the skating in person!

So glad that I went! Ashley was quite a bit slower than she was in the past, but she did a really nice job on her SP. Something was not quite working with her edge jumps by the time she did LaLa Land in exhibition. I just don't think that she has the requisite training and stamina to have skated it in even a quasi-competition setting.

Mirai was really impressive especially with two new programs. While I was not examining her jumps for under-rotations, most everything was finished off and very elegant. She looked really comfortable and the recognition that she received in terms of her marks appeared to make her very happy.

Konstantinova was very elegant with great flow across the ice. Loved both of her costumes as well.

Hosoda did a great job on her LP and she tossed off her 3A's with ease. I agree that she pretty much gave a jumping clinic. The only issue I had was that it was skated to the exact cut of music that Yuna used at the 2010 Olympics and when that happens, all I tend to envision was Yuna's Olympic FS in 2010(My problem).

Alysa was absolutely magnificent and yes I agree that she had made major strides in the artistry and maturation of her skating. I was blown away. And everything looked absolutely effortless.

They did. Ashley did La La Land. She landed 2 2As and popped 2 triples. Guessing her hip is causing her a problem.

Either that or she isn’t well trained. And I expect it could actually be the training as much as the hip. I’m proud of her for showing up and doing this but the truth is she’s not in competitive shape. That’s always been part of the fun of the cheesefest

ALYSA! Absolutely amazing! I can't wait to see her skate that FS at nationals. Mirai skated bettee than I expected. Looks like she's been training hard for this as well as the upcoming Japan Open. What a fun competition. Did the winners get anything? I just saw the ending ceremony which looked cut off as Nancy L. stood around with all the competitors.

Alysa was extremely charismatic, something I don't usually see in such a young skater. She dazzles.

From what we could tell, Ashley was taken aback when told to prepare for her exhibition skate. We could clearly see her say "Now?" We were in the very front row next to the judges. Our assumption was Ashley hadn't had time to warm up. There seemed to be a fair amount of catch as catch can involving who skated when, and I thought it possible Ashley had been requested not to do a free skate because Alysa and Hosoda had shown up. But it could be I'm wrong about that, since they were the three skaters listed as doing exhibitions on the jumbo screen.

I'm reasonably sure I saw Yuka Sato.

If there's any footage of women frantically gesturing that confetti has landed on the ice, Bookseller and I are leading the brigade. The woman sitting next to Bookseller (who coincidentally lived about 15 miles from Bookseller and from myself) had also been to the Lake Placid SA and we agreed we had plenty of practice there warning skaters about flies and sequins and a variety of other litter placed fetchingly on the ice.
