American Idol Reboot

Adam Lambert had no problem reaching the notes and continues to do so as he tours with Queen. Will be great to see him back on AI next week.

I love, love, LOVE the work Adam has been doing with Queen in the last 8 years, his tone, vocal skills and theatricality are a natural fit for the job. Looking forward to the summer tour this year!

For this AI week, I hope he'll be able to help the contestants make the Queen songs work for them in the best way possible.

If anyone finds a spoiler list for Queen week, post the song choices so I can lament about how cringe worthy they will be before I actually hear them. Agree that singing Freddy is very difficult and if people try to reach for those notes, they will not succeed.

Maybe Jeremiah will sing Fat Bottomed Girls in an effort to appease his heterosexual parents.

What about Wade? Any high notes from him are from his long ago past. It won't be pleasant. BTW if I sound like I'm ragging on Wade, I like him & think he's very handsome but he.can't.sing.

Its kind of comical to me that Laci and Wade are still there. Both are insanely weak. I really hope they dont sneak into top 5 somehow...Queen has some really cool songs and some boring ones...song choice will be major

The best thing that has been said in this thread about Wade is that he is decen" (not exactly high praise). So you're not alone in ragging on him...

Wade's version of Trouble sounded like gravel in a blender at high speed. That's too kind of me, but I'm feeling generous. :p

I feel that Laci and Wade are the worst of this top 10, but they are still decent.

I can't understand how Wade even made the top 40.

Yes but these people are no where near as good a singers as Adam Lambert was back when he was on American Idol (and he's even better today). And I say that even of the people that I like. I anticipate a lot of screeching, especially from Screechy McPhearson (my little nickname for Jeremiah). :P

^^^ Cool picture with Adam in the background. Man where are the song spoilers though! I must suck at searching because I still can't find anything about what Queen songs they are each singing. I keep only finding the Disney list and who care 'bout that now.

For people who live on the West Coast (and actually across all the Time Zones) .... is AI on every Sunday from 5p-7p your time so its 'Live live' for you? Because if they are doing voting during the show that is on 8p-10p EST and 2 go home that night, its not really fair if people on the West Coast don't even see the show til an hour after 2 people have already been eliminated. I know Ryan says the voting is 'live' across all Time Zones, but I would never remember to "OMG I gotta vote before 7p even though the show doesn't even start for another hour" if I lived on the West Coast.. Of course, I don't even vote anymore so it really don't matter to me (cause if I can't sit and dial a 1-800 number on my landline phone its just too complicated to vote for me. ). But that has to skew the results if people in the other Time Zones don't remember to vote before they even sit down to watch the show.

It is on at 5 pm here on the West Coast. I think it's on twice (both at 5 and at 8) I didn't watch live last week though cause of Easter. I thought though that there was a result show the next day, (didn't know it was just a fluff show on Monday). So I thought I would still be able to vote not realizing that it was live voting.

I'm just hovering this thread to see if this will be the year one of these singing shows moves outside the established 10-15 "hit" songs and remembers that Freddie didn't sing lead on every Queen song, and thus there are alternatives to "omg I gotta match Freddie".

I think it's disgusting that any show opens the voting before they even sing. What if your fav does a horrible job & someone else knocks it out of the park? Does your fav deserve your votes then?

Ryan Seacrest encourages viewers to think of voting like a popularity contest. I think of it as would I buy that singer's music? If not, I don't vote for him/her, no matter how good the voice is. Do they want a winner they can be proud of or do they want to give a record contract to someone who really can't sing? It's hard to tell.

Agree about the voting. There's no reason they can't have a 30 minute vote out show the next night for both AI and DWTS. You figure with commercials that's really only 22-23 minutes. Take 5 minutes for an opening number, 10 minutes for gibber gabber and recap all the performances, then remaining time to do the vote. Just cut freaking Bachelor by 30 minutes until AI is over in May.

I think they should reveal the results the following Sunday before the performances begin like they did in the final season before the reboot.

Ryan said during the last live show that people can change their votes at any time during the two hour show. Until he said that, I thought it was unfair that those who performed earlier in the show had more time to get votes than those who performed later in the show. But...people vote for their favourites, regardless of x, y and z. It happens with everything one can vote on, including politics, right?

Still no song spoilers but here's a series of short videos of the contestants talking about what they've learned from Adam and what advice he's given them on singing Queen songs. (You need an Instagram account to view "Stories").

I always thought it was mean that they'd tell someone they were eliminated and then have them sing anyway.

Since I seldom listen to the talking I missed the fact that you can change your vote. But you can't change a call-in vote. They still have them, don't they? Or is it all online or on the voting app? I only vote online so my votes are a drop in the bucket.

^^ I don't think you can call in like before to a 1-800 number because I never see a number shown and that's why I don't vote anymore. Too much of a hassle for me to go vote online. I don't have a cell so I don't text or app stuff. I think the voting is via text, app or online only.

List from MJSBigBlog:

Alejandro Aranda — “Under Pressure”

Alyssa Raghu — “Somebody to Love”

Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon — “Who Wants to Live Forever”

Laci Kaye Booth — “Love of My Life”

Laine Hardy — “Fat Bottomed Girls”

Madison VanDenburg — “The Show Must Go On”

Wade Cota — “We Are the Champions”

Walker Burroughs — “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”

Walker chose one that no one but Freddy has ever sung even passable. Jeremiah's is predictable. Wade's is ironic. Laine's is hysterical. The others are ok.

I don't think I have ever heard the song Laci is singing. Unless I just don't know the correct name of that song, which is entirely possible. I'll have to go You Tube it to see.

I think Wade would have been a better choice for Walker's song.

Jeremiah's song is no surprise. So predictable. And I find him sssoooo boring I don't expect anything other than a straight cover. :blah:

It will be interesting to see how Alejandro works with that song. I can see him changing it up.

I think Lanie could kill that song if he does it right!

 damn girl, you is quicker than me! I totally typo'd up my message and posted it too quick, so deleted it quickly so I could revise it. Fixed it now. :P

At least it give more time to vote for the contestants that perform last. But if people are voting before they see the performances, then I guess it doesn't matter anyways.

The opening number, We Will Rock You...didn't. One of the guys (Wade) was really belting...and was really off. He crashed and burned the song for the entire group. :(

Laine looks like he's dressed to be this generation's Wayne newton.

Walker - His best performance so far in my opinion. Quite strong. Looks like he worked with a movement coach, all his weird, quirky stuff was gone and just his endearing quirky stuff remained. Or were just a few words from Adam enough to make him seem that much better on stage??

Very cool to see Colin Kaepernick playing guitar. :D

Madison - Again, the best performance from her so far. Pretty close to flawless. :40beers:

Walker had his best performance so far (by a lot). I thought Madison was really good.

Laine and Laci actually sound great together, but I don't agree with Katy. They didn't have much chemistry. Did AI announce they were doing movie duets last week, or is this something they added last minute?

Jeremiah was very good. Excellent song choice for his voice, IMO.

Alejandro... I respect him as an artist (he took a real risk), but he didn't quite pull that off, IMO.

Wade and Alyssa... didn't suck. Wow. Talk about unexpected! It was interesting.

Jeremiah and Madison... best performance of the night. The rest are going to have to work hard to top that. Their voices blended just about perfectly.

Laine really did rock FBG. He looked like he was having so much fun. I loved that.
