A holiday figure skating spectacular - American Gold Live at the Penn Ice Rink in Philadelphia:
The Penn Ice Rink is thrilled to host American Gold Live! on Saturday, December 13, with shows at 1 PM and 6 PM.
NBC10 will film and broadcast the spectacle, headlined by reigning world champs Ilia Malinin and Alysa Liu, Philly's Isabeau Levito, and a cast of skating’s brightest mere weeks before they take Olympic ice in Milano Cortina.
This info was originally posted on Oct. 30 in the "Legacy on Ice" show thread, here: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...the-potomac-river.112625/page-17#post-6830864

I just called the rink to see if they had more information than what was on the website. He was helpful: there is a FAQ page that they plan to post on Friday which includes information about the camera policy (no professional cameras) and what can’t be brought into the arena (the usual types of things, but it does still say that bags can only be 12x12). He did say the arena is cold. No information about additional performers. Plenty of $ parking in the area. I don’t trust that my camera would get in so I will likely skip it unless anyone things I could get it in.

I hope this helps someone.

Thank you for the information! I wish I were back home in Philly to see this (I'm currently in the Florida Panhandle).

As a part time security officer we've often been told different things from event to event. Certain bags aren't allowed, bags are allowed, certain sizes aren't ok, umbrellas aren't allowed, umbrellas are allowed, etc. It depends on each client and the event. Same with cameras. Some venues/artists don't care, others do. Unless one needs a large bag for medical needs, baby items, etc I would avoid trying to bring anything much larger than a clutch purse. If the policy is unclear as to cameras with or without professional looking photo lenses, I would probably avoid bringing that in to. Unless one doesn't mind being sent back to one's car to leave it there. The trek back to some parking lots or garages can be quite a distance at times. We've had to tell guests that they can't bring in cameras with such lenses more times than I care to think. As you did, it's best to call ahead or check the website in order to find out what the exact policy is for certain items.

When I go to ice shows I always assume that the venue is cold and dress accordingly in layers that I can remove if it's too warm after all!

"PSC&HS is proud to share that Matt Jacoby & Anna Waugh — along with Meghan Huffman — will perform in American Gold Live! They’ll be sharing the ice with World Champion Ilia Malinin, World Champion Alysa Liu, and World Silver Medalist Isabeau Levito."

The new team of Waugh/Jacoby qualified for 2026 Nationals in Novice Dance (5th at the U.S. Ice Dance Final); Meghan Huffman (6th in Junior Women at last month's Eastern Sectional Singles Final).

"All net proceeds benefiting the U.S. Figure Skating National Development Team Legacy Fund, helping develop the next generation of American skaters."

A meaningful opportunity especially for Matt Jacoby to perform in these shows, I think.
Sylvia and perhaps others will remember that he qualified for 2025 USFS National Development Camp, where he was accompanied by new partner Alydia Livingston. Flying home from the Wichita camp, she tragically was lost in the plane crash, along with her sister and parents.

Stuff mentioned elsewhere on FSU, but maybe worth repeating in this thread:

After Finlandia Trophy, a promotional post from Gold On Ice said that Zingas/Kolesnik also will be performing in Philadelphia. (And since then, Z/K have posted on Instastory about the shows more than once, so still happening, I hope.)

On Fri Dec 12, Malinin and Levito are scheduled to perform live on NBC Today show, 7 to 9 am ET.
And to appear again in 9 am hour. (No performances billed for third hour.)
Milan of course will be the big topic, but I am mildly curious to see whether Today show has agreed to plug the Philadelphia shows, given that local NBC station is involved.

Philadelphia Inquirer show preview article by Ellen Dunkel with a focus on Isabeau Levito and includes quotes from Ilia Malinin, host Brian Boitano & Alysa Liu (Dec. 11):

“I’ve been home for, like, five weeks,” she said. “I don’t know what to do with myself.”
So she’s eager to perform. One of her numbers in the show will be this year’s short program, to a medley of music from Sophia Loren movies. (Her long program is to music from Cinema Paradiso. This season’s competitive programs are a nod to Italy, where the Olympics will be in her mother’s hometown of Milan.)
“I haven’t competed since [the] beginning of November,” Levito said, ”so it’ll be kind a way to [get it out there]. But also, I like that program.”
She’ll also be skating a new holiday program to Jackie Evancho’s “Believe.”

Sorry, I had forgotten that Jacob Sanchez had said that he would be skating in the same Philadelphia shows as his bestie Ilia.
A general mention on Reddit jogged my memory, but I can't remember the the original source of the comments from Sanchez.
ETA:
More apologies: I overlooked that the Reddit mention hyperlinked to original source regarding Sanchez:

(And for some reason, the event website never has been updated with more cast names beyond Malinin, Liu, Levito.)

I forgot to watch Today show live, but from what I see on its YouTube channel, Craig Melvin in third-hour interview (at second link below) fed a question about the Philadelphia shows to Ilia, who responded with some who/what/where/when (but there was no graphic as a visual plug).
Today show naturally gave full-blown plugs to U.S. Nationals and Olympics. Levito performed on Rockefeller Center Rink (twice, including third hour), but I don't think Ilia did?

Thank you! I think both of your video links go to the same early morning report? Ilia was in the studio and Isabeau skated part of her Breakfast at Tiffany's EX on the Rockefeller Center outdoor rink. I was looking for video of their TODAY Show third hour appearance but haven't found anything yet.

NBC Philly's report earlier today from the UPenn rink with Alysa Liu & Brian Boitano: https://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/new...e-philadelphia-penn-ice-rink-tickets/4315760/

My second link is to Ilia/Isabeau in third hour (meaning 9 o'clock hour). Length is 5:37. Melvin asked Ilia about Philadelphia at approx. 1:24.
My first link is to Ilia/Isabeau in 8 o'clock hour. Length is 5:31.

In third hour, Ilia was in studio with both Craig Melvin and Dylan Dreyer. (In 8 o'clock hour, Ilia was in studio only with Melvin.)
In third hour, Levito was on ice with both Al Roker and Sheneille Jones. (In 8 o'clock hour, Levito was on ice only with Jones.)

Today Vadym has posted an Instastory from inside Penn Rink ... making me wish I were going tomorrow!

From today's Daily Pennsylvanian (University of Pennsylvania's independent student media organization) article:
"For the latter [Penn community tier], students, faculty, staff, and alumni can access a limited number of tickets at a discount [click here]."

Limited University of Pennsylvania seats available for each show. PennCard and University of Pennsylvania ticket code required for purchase and entry.

"Starstruck" Matthew Jacoby and his current Novice partner, Anna Waugh, spoke to NBC 10 Philly's Siobhan McGirl earlier today (2-min. video): https://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/video/news/local/american-gold-live-skates-into-philadelphia-this-weekend/4316179/

I'm here. Just sat down. About a half hour to stand in line and get my Silver badge and then told where to sit. Their ticketing system is down so basically it's sit anywhere in your designated section. Which is what they should have done anyway and ditched the "check-in" line.

One of the purple ice-level lights is shining up right at me and it's annoying but I can't really move, sigh.

I saw Z/K walk in past the line carrying cups of coffee and go down the stairs leading to the seats, I guess that's the fastest way for them to get backstage.

Opening number to "Home." Looks look a cast of 10.

Boitano intros Ilia, says that Ilia has set the bar technically and artistically.

“I wish you well.” Airbrushed shirt. No raspberry. Edges pretty shallow.

Ugh, on-ice plug for NBC OOOOO.

Iceworks (Aston, Pa) ToI is next. Cute.

Isabeau. Christmas exhibition. Some triples, some doubles. Alas, being interviewed by the vapid NBC10 news lady. She acquits herself well, though.

McBeath and Parkman. Quality lifts.

Meghan Huffman, junior skater, friend of UDel. skater who passed away in the tragedy.

Anna Waugh and Matthew Jacoby.

Jacob Sanchez, flowy black robe.

Z/K dressed for a tango, medley of Christmas instrumentals. Biggest ovation so far.

Isabeau’s SP.

LED performance. 'Requiem for a Dream' and medley of other death-themed music. He has the ToI girls with him, all in LED suits. Alas, the arena is not dark enough for maximum impact.

TV News Lady: Alysa, how does it feel to be World Champion?
Alysa: It feels normal.

Ilia in the program with the white mask. It was slipping, so he took it off before the steps.

“I close my eyes…” Starts with Alysa, then joined by the rest of the cast. This is the finale.

Jacob skated in a black cape/gown....don't know the music. Z/K skated to Mannheim Steamroller's Carol of the Bells, did twizzles (L4, +5 GOE :)), good lifts, i'm glad they are getting the opportunity to do shows. Isabeau skated her SP, 3F, 1A, 2Lo....this rink is very cold and I suspect the ice is hard.

Now a group of LED costumes skating to Another One Bites the Dust.

Show over, 1 hour and 10 min. Kind of skimpy for the cost but we did get to see Ilia and Isabeau skate twice. Alysa skated her SOI and GPF gala number, I forget the name. Ilia's second number was the one with the mask, dressed in all black. He did a spin in both directions (has he ever done that before?) and a backflip.

I wish we could have also seen another performance from Z/K.

Finale was to A Million Dreams and The Winner Takes it All.
