All aboard the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 (Lisbon, Portugal)

I am not particularly impressed with the Swedish and the Norwegian songs :shuffle:.
As for Netta's "Toy" - I'm not sure whether to  or :cheer:.

Russia has finally announced the title of Yulia Samoylova's song - "I Won't Break." Again, I'll express my opinion non-verbally: :slinkaway.

Israeli song's music is not my cup of tea, but Netta Barzilai is a spectacular performer.
I think she can get attention from the theme of her song and raise enthousiastic reactions from her act on stage.
It may not be a winner but it's a song that's going to matter in a few months.

Uganda’s Spoon Youth Group dance to Netta’s Toy

Spoon Youth, a children’s charity group from Uganda, has recently uploaded a video to Facebook of the group members dancing to Netta’s “Toy”, stating that the song has already won for them. The video depicting the children performing traditional African dance has since gone viral.

Other faves :

Lisandro Cuxi : Eva

Emmy Liyanna : Ok ou KO

Malo : Ciao

Max Cinnamon : Ailleurs

That makes 7 out of 8 songs of the final.
Each has its fans and it's going to be a tough win.
8th is Louka's Mamma Mia but it is not a fan favorite.

Igit's Lisboa-Jerusalem is the most poetic but my fave is Madame-Monsieur's Mercy. I also like Emmy Liyanna's OK ou KO.

I like Lisboa-Jerusalem

There is so much to say...

First off: if Israel wins, that would be a complete shock as it will be taken as an approval of the apartheid regime and almost genocide of the Palestinians. Regardless of the quality of the song, I don't understand why Isreal is still allowed to enter. You have to make a stand for humanity at one point.
I never understood why Russian entries were booed but Israel, which factually has one of the most despicable regimes on the planet, is cheered on...
I know that we're not supposed to be politicking, but what I cannot wrap my head around is how you can separate politics from these competitions, when these competitions have NATIONS as their competitors.
Nations are politics. They are the core, foundation and basis of politics.
Let's wipe away the borders and be one world, and then we can stop politicking.

In that vein, Italy should win for the best message (if I get the meaning correctly). (I suppose that Switzerland's song is not about the Palestinian struggle?)
And Estonia should win for the best voice. Goodness me, I'm blown away.
And Australia has a song I really like. What if they now really win?
Portugal is again in the running for the best private weird non-accessible entry.

I find it hard to judge them based on video's because the live performance is so totally part of the deal for me. A great show can add a lot to a mediocre song, and singing off key (however understandable with all those nerves) simply wipes you off the board for me, no matter how good your song is.

I have a very ordinary music taste (yes I like Spain's entry a lot, I can't help it...), and fear that some of my darlings will not make the final, as always.

Benjamin Ingrosso for Sweden and Alexander Rybak is back for Norway.
O, and Alexander Rybak is the most gorgeous, lovable, sweetie guy I've spotted so far. Such a pity I find the song completely irritating... Stop singing Alexander. Just kiss me. That'll be 1200 points.

Israel is an EBU member, and as such can take part in Eurovision. And it has a government, not a regime. Your opinion of it (or mine) is not a fact.

Take this sort of thing into the politics thread where it belongs.

Continuing the monologue, I so much want San Marino to go to the final, just because they never have and I want to keep them in Eurovision. But god, with this song it's going to be very very hard, no?

San Marino qualified for the final in 2014. #ValentinaMonetta

Thank you so much! i never heard this song, and not only i'd like it to win, but it's probably the best new song i've heard in 5-6 years. (....oy-vey! meine mama... the entry/song from Israel, unfortunately, i find horrible... ).

Hate to break it to you, but France didn’t pick that song as its entry. :slinkaway

So I’ve listened to all the entries and the ones that really jumped out at me were Bulgaria, Czech Republic and Israel in Semi 1, Norway in Semi 2 and France in the final. Absolute fave is France.

My fave last year was Belgium which came FORTH. Make of that what you will.

Got it! too bad (imo)... I listened to the French entry, it's OK (better than most), hope it makes finals.

My #1 pick is Moldavia, love it!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKLKeVC-9Y4
#2 - Montenegro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxJoxbo9lCQ
#3 - Serbia: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkOFnIjGrkw
#4 - Estonia: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76KOUIfDry8
#5 - Ukraine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jbF7o8yqnc

(regret to say but all other rhythms/beats and melodies either annoy me, or bore me).
I know Moldavia probably not likely to win.....:smokin:

Estonia would be closer to my bottom 5 ;). But I know that it's one of fan favourites. I strongly support Belgium (I hope Sennek will break the curse of FORTH places), Portugal, France and the Netherlands. The Irish song is rather bland and forgettable, but I'm a fan of the video :). Netta is growing on me! And I wish Saara a decent vocal outing at the event - "Monsters" is very anthemic!

Moldova is such a guilty pleasure :shuffle:.

Given what's out there last 10 years, i wish Sopot Fest returns, or at least these are played at Eurovision..
